Muay Thai-what is it all about?
Muay Thai is another traditional form of martial arts that originated in Thailand. This traditional kick boxing from can be traced back in history around 400 years back when the capital of Thailand was Ayutthaya. The muay Thai was a form of unarmed fighting that was used by the soldiers of a tribe in Thailand called the muay, in case they lost their weapons in the battle. This form is also called the science of the eight limbs as this fight form is solely based upon the technique of using the limbs to hurt the opponent. This fight form now has gained popularity all around the world.
The mixed martial arts fighters use the muay Thai for the defense purposes. This fight form does not require any sort of weapons for attacking. It is the mixture of the Indian and the Chinese martial arts form. There are some of the basic positions and shots in this kick boxing that makes use of the knees, elbows and fists. The stance of the muay Thai is with the shoulders in the same line unlike the other boxing forms where one shoulder is kept ahead of the other. The principle behind this position in Thai boxing is to allow the fighter to defend himself from the opponent’s kicks with his legs. Jabs, hooks, upper cuts, kicks and knees are some of the basic shots of the muay Thai. The force used in these punches and kicks are obtained from all the parts of the body starting from the legs. The player must practice to gather all the force in the body and concentrate it on the limb with which they would be attacking. This would give the maximum damage to the opponents. This is more effective when the opponent is closer to you.
The training centers for muay Thai are a very few in other parts of the world unlike Thailand. There are instructional muay Thai DVD available in the market that can give you the detailed techniques of the fight form. The disadvantage of the muay Thai DVD is that you are not provided with the basics in these training sessions. They straight away start off with the training techniques. Thus you will have to make it a point to learn the basics first if you are on the search for an instructional DVD. On the other hand, the advantage is that these muay Thai DVD give a lot of emphasis on the stance of fighting and also on the footwork which is a very crucial aspect a Thai fighter has to concentrate on. You can also watch the moves clearly and repeatedly to get perfect at it.
