"Radio Heart" Produced by Jimmy Miller

On February 17, 2024 I received in the mail a CD from Israel of Play New Rose for Me, the anthology, a 1986 or so release, with a version of Willie Loco Alexander's Radio Heart. To hear what we really sounded like live doing the song However for the Play New Rose For Me release we did a techno version which wasn't my thing, but - well, I like to experiment. I'm glad the live version exists (see above) as it shows my radio heart, but I do like this thirty-eight years later and appreciate the work we did.

When it was released on vinyl it wasn't my favorite work.

This was recorded after Jimmy Miller and I started working with Phil Greene at Normandy Sound in Warren Rhode Island and before the Buddy Guy, Jo Jo Laine, Joe Viglione tapes in 1987 with Mr. Miller.

Joe Pet played on the song "I Want You Sexually" in Normandy, our first session with Phil Greene, and Phil and Mr. Petruzelli were trading sounds, so I wrote the song while they were sound trading. Jimmy Miller came up to me and said "Let them play, they'll work harder for you," which I also sensed, thus I wrote the new song we would record. As the Stones would, in a recording studio.

This version of "Radio Heart" was tracked a Porta-Pet, Joe Petruzelli's studio in Medford, Massachusetts on 14 Foster Court, off of Riverside Ave. Jimmy Miller had worked with Dexy's Midnight Runners, Motorhead, the Plasmatics, Jeff Beck, Bogert and Appice, and Talk Talk in his later years. Our New Rose track, "Radio Heart" was more techno than the Talk Talk demo. Basically, my voice became a rhythmic melodic instrument under Joe Pet's drum machine (remarkably like his playing on "I Want You Sexually," ) and Lord Manuel Smith's amazing synthesizer. And then the brilliant Brian Bradley's guitar comes in for some rock sensibility. I've had the opportunity to work with some of the greatest rock guitarists, Peter Calo, Fred Pineau, Chris Sanzo, Francis "Fudge" Keegan (worked with Stephen Stills and Sib Hashian of the band Boston, Miller noted Fudge was in the "upper third" of guitarists he had worked with,) Eric Brown, Danny Rybar, Doug Osborne, Kenne Highland these gifted guys perhaps don't even realize how remarkable they are, but they blow away many of their contemporaries. Brian Bradley was in the band The Unafraid, and being a booking agent gave me access to musicians ...which has enhanced my music.

Driving to and from the gym tonight, 2/17/24, and listening to this song repeatedly from 38 years ago, I have a new appreciation for it. No, it is not among my best work, but it is very special and perhaps due to the collective talents - written by Willie Loco Alexander, produced by Jimmy Miller, having Joe Perry's drummer, Joe Petruzelli, engineering and programming the drums, Lord Manuel's unique talents (Willie Loco borrowed Manuel from my group for "Gin" and other songs,) or as Napolean Hill would use Euclid's axiom: “The whole is equal to the sum of all the parts and is greater than any of its parts.” That is so true for this song. Where my personality is usually front and center in all of my material, and my voice with the power found on "The Guitarmaster," I fade into the mix here, and become one of the team members. It is less a Count Viglione performance than a Jimmy Miller production with all band-mates just having at it in a great way.

I FEEL I HAVE BEEN SCAMMED. I PAYED FOR A CD BY BOARDS OF CANADA AND I HAVE NOT RECIEVED IT. WHEN I ENQIURED ABOUT THIS THE SELLER WAS NOT HELPFUL AT ALL AND SAID SHE WAS GOING TO CANCEL MY ORDER (WHICH SHE THEN DID). TO MY KNOWLEDGE I HAVE NOT BEEN REIMBURSED THE SUM I PAYED FOR THE ITEM. SHE CAME OVER AS RATHER ABUSIVE IN HER MESSAGES THAT SHE SENT ME AND. I FELT AT THAT STAGE I WOULD NOT RECEIVE EITHER THE CD OR BE REIMBURSED THE MONEY I PAID FOR IT. I HAVE SINCE ORDERED THE CD FROM ANOTHER SELLER.

Hadn’t visited this site for some time, glad I revisited in that hard to find/rare records were listed at more affordable prices (unlike other record sites!) May not always have what your after but always worth a look, simple ordering process & helpful sellers!!
