Terrible, ZERO stars

Terrible. If zero stars were possible I would select that. They did not provide any sales for the artist I submitted, even though I could find some myself in simple internet searches. They provided estimates of other nature paintings of a similar size. Seriously, #1 rule of painting valuation is the artist themselves not the size of the painting or the subject such as "nature", the estimates were of no worth to me and could not be used.

Unfortunately, the few available results are not sufficient or representative enough to form a valuation. In such cases, as is standard in the art appraisal field, our experts turn to comparable works--based on factors like size, medium, subject matter, and style--to provide a fair market estimate.

It seems there may have been some misunderstanding around how the valuation process works, especially when there is minimal direct sales data. Please know this method is widely used in the industry and aims to offer the most accurate and market-informed result possible under the circumstances.

We genuinely value your input and are always here to provide further clarification. That said, we do stand by the valuation that was provided, which was completed in line with accepted market practices and with the intention of offering a meaningful and objective resource.

Appraisal Process Great…the rest 👎

As far as the appraisal process, the service was great. As far as the selling process, I’d rate it a single star. As far as regular updates re: sales status, I’d give them a single star. As far as interaction with the seller, another single star. I’ve had three artworks appraised and listed for years. I’ve never heard a word from them. I made an inquiry a couple years ago regarding: if they had any idea how long it might take for my word to sell. The response was very curt. Here it is.

“We should discuss this further only when we have an offer from an auction house.
Until then, there is not much to discuss.”

My works don’t even appear in the pages of the artists as available art for sale. How in the world would anyone even see them if they can’t even be seen on the artist’s page?

Not happy with Mutual Art seems!!

I got an estimate for my art

I got an estimate for my art, which is only one of two original paintings by artist Yervand Nahapetian, of $1500$—$2000$. How is it possible that you have a sold painting on your website for $$$$$ in 2024?

Appraisal

Easy and quick. I was looking for an appraisal on a print that was given to me. The process was simple ~ upload pictures, give any information you have on the print and submit. I got my appraisal report back in 48 hours. I would say it's accurate based on what I knew and a couple flaws.

SHOCKING DISCOVERY.

Thanks to MutualArt, I accidentally discovered that several of my paintings, signed with my different signature, that I haven't used for decades, were recently sold at auctions. These works are from the early '90s, and they reflect my very first impressions of this country. I was somewhat shocked by this discovery, because I thought these works were long lost.

Not enough professional input

Although I appreciated how quickly the appraisal was done, I do not feel it provided any more information than I was able to get from the Internet myself. To not even authenticate whether the signature belonged to the artist or not was a disappointment. I was expecting some professional input from your team, but instead I got something that could possibly have been generated by artificial intelligence scanning the Internet for information on the artist whose name I provided. So I still don’t even know if the painting was done by that artist or not.

As an online platform, we are unable to verify the authenticity of a work, as this requires in-person examination by a qualified specialist. For this reason, we recommend consulting one or more industry experts who can physically inspect the artwork. However, please note that authentication is not included in the valuation service we provide.

Regarding your concern, we’d like to clarify that the report was prepared by an experienced appraiser—not generated by artificial intelligence. Upon reviewing your appraisal, we noted that the appraiser described the work as "an atypical example of the artist’s style, significantly diverging from the majority of their known pieces", which could suggest that the artwork was not done by the assigned artist. While this observation was included in the report, the Fair Market Value (FMV) is based solely on the information provided and comparable market data, and does not reflect authentication.
