I never knew this was even possible

I never knew this was even possible. I'm moving in deposit free and couldn't be happier! It's 2 weeks before Thanksgiving and the government has shutdown, paying the deposit would have made my Holidays a bit slim. The management company mentioned this new program to help. I filled out the application and within minutes, I was approved. All that I had to pay was a 10% fee and scheduled to move in next month. Thanks Obligo!

Trash

Trash. I was eligible to pay 10% of my deposit but the service continued to error indicating that “the option wasn’t available yet”. When reaching out to support they stated because I did not have the full deposit amount in the connected account (not the 10%, the full deposit) that I was not eligible for the service? Why not just spell that prerequisite out when going to submit. It’s dumb to assume I keep all my money in a bank account that doesn’t accumulate APY. You told me it’d be $50 so the account has $50. If it’s actually checking for $500 just say that- don’t expect people to just know these “systematic limitations”. Or just don’t offer the service to begin with if you don’t even know how it works. Just absolutely idiotic concept that was nothing but a waste of my time and energy

Hi Rebecca,

We're sorry to hear about the confusion and frustration around your qualification experience. To clarify, Obligo doesn’t simply check for a specific balance in your connected account, our qualification process includes a combination of factors to ensure eligibility.

We appreciate your feedback and we understand that messaging around this could have been clearer - we are actively working to improve how these requirements are communicated upfront.

If you have any remaining questions or need help with your account, our team is always available at support@myobligo.com.

Cannot change credit card easily and support is non-existent

Their support is some of the worst I have ever experienced on an online service. Their response time through the chat is horrific. There is no way to contact them other than the chat and email. I have yet to have received any response on how to change the credit card I wanted to use for my security deposit.

Lower security deposit stakes

It made all the security deposit steps care-free: I didn't feel the pressure of getting my money back, and paying your landlord (if necessary) is a couple button clicks; no checks!

Still charged full deposit

Moved out of my apartment and was also charged my full deposit...what's the point of this service?

I lived for 2 years and paid over $400 in fees only to get charged my full deposit anyway. Wouldn't recommend using this service

Hi JC,

We appreciate your feedback and understand your concerns. Obligo is designed to provide renters with move-in options, helping to free up cash that would otherwise be tied up in a traditional security deposit. Our service does still allow landlords to collect any valid charges at move-out, up to the requirement amount.

We’re sorry if there was any confusion about how the service works. Please reach out to us at support@myobligo.com so we can address any concerns you have directly

Best,

Scummy Scam, STAY AWAY

Absolute deplorable business practices by taking advantage of those in financial need and overall charging them more without a care for the tenants. I was lied to about how their services work and trying to get in touch with any 'customer support' is near impossible, and when you do you cannot believe a word you can say. I spoke with one customer service agent who contradicted herself three times in about 10-15 minutes on a phone call which took months of complaints and attempting to reach out to even get into contact with. I understand that at times it may seem like a good option, but using this service as a tenant or landlord will always come back to bite you in the ass so it is best to avoid this scam for all intents and purposes.

I cannot believe I am taking this…

I cannot believe I am taking this route. I typically never leave bad reviews. My apartment complex messed up the final charge for the move out. Now oblige is trying to charge me. I have been in touch with them and explained and although I have been told they would stop trying to pull this payment, and figure out the mistake, it continues. I have spent $150 in bank overdraft fees because of this shit. The company should not exist and does not care what your dealing with.

Hi John,

We're sorry you didn't have a positive experience with Obligo. Our team has been in contact with you to resolve this issue. At move-out, Obligo charges the payment method on file for any move-out charges submitted by your landlord. In this case, we reached out to your landlord on your behalf and confirmed the charges were valid. If you wish to update the payment method on file, you can update this in your Obligo account or reach out to one of our team members at support@myobligo.com. Please reach out if you have any further questions.

Best,
