Ordered a Christmas gift for my daughter. It took them 7+ days to even prepare the package for shipping. It will be 11-15 days to receive it and will not be here in time for Christmas. Nothing on their website about delays. No way to expedite it so she actually had something to open.

I've been a customer of The Mysterious Package Company since their early days and own all of their experiences. Many of these are sold as exactly that, narrative "experience," not puzzles. But many of the more recent products have elaborate puzzles, including the just-released "Dead Man's Tale," which is marvel of paper engineering. The quality of the products and customer service had a dip a few years back, but the latest items reflect the quality of those issued by the company from 2015 to 2019. Customer service has, for me, been excellent. Highly recommended.

loss of money

The money for the undelivered goods was refunded to me after eight months (!) and only after I requested it. However, due to the change in the exchange rate, I received back much less than I paid, and I lost more than 1000 CZK!

Consistently delightful

I've received multiple experiences from this company, and they've all been delightfully well curated, and the puzzles deeply challenging. I imagine the negative reviews have a lot of We love it, and will definitely be using it more.

Scam company, horrible service

I purchased on August 11 Self-contained Stand Case Cover for iPhone × 1
Green/iPhone14Plus $31.72 and
19 emails later I have no product no response from the support team. No response from customer service no number to call. No refund !!!!
It’s been 45 days since I purchased it what a waste of time, energy and money.

Very overpriced and very underwhelming

We got the Forgotten Tomb (which has an Egyptology theme).

A lot of effort has gone in to making it look good and to creating a backstory, but as a puzzle solving experience it's both tedious and confusing. It's essentially a fancily packaged fairly dull code-breaking exercise, and the objective is so unclear that you don't really even know when you've completed it.

You'll have much more fun spending an evening playing Diplomacy or Settlers of Catan. Absolutely not worth the extortionate price.

Forget about buying the Forgotten Tomb

Whatever you do, do not waste your money or time on the Forgotten Tomb. The only mystery here is how it's sold out and more people aren't calling them out for this insanely frustrating product.

Apparently it used to come as separate mailings, but now it comes altogether. The only problem with that is one of the first things you're likely to find spoils the whole thing! But don't worry, you won't realize that until after you spend the next few weeks of your life combing though the endless journal entries, articles and artifacts trying to find clues that do not exist. No joke, 90% of the box contents serve no purpose apparently besides telling the tomb's back story.

But that's not even the worst part. Once you figure out what you need to do, the majority of your time (and I'm talking days if you're like us) is going to be spent trying to figure out the most frustrating 12 part 'puzzle' I've ever encountered. Then, once you've done that, the fun really begins as you have to take those results and try to find them all on a huge map, which due to the design is nearly impossible and feels like a sick joke. This part took me days to do and was practically psychological torture, and after all of that I'm convinced one of them isn't even there.

Anyway, once you find the 12 locations it points you to the location of the forgotten tomb's entrance. That's when you'll realize that the first thing you found, weeks before, told you where it was right at the beginning. So, after all that time and hours of frustration, it turns out it was all for nothing.

Sufficed to say, I was left a bit disappointed.

Also in terms of customer service they really dropped the ball. They were pretty quick to respond at first to tell me I was 'on the right track' and tell me where to start, but once I managed to figure out the puzzle and questioned them about the point of doing any of it they were the ones that mysteriously disappeared.

Hopefully this either helps warn others and prevents anyone else from going through what I just did over the last three months. Or, if you are currently suffering through it and just want it to end, the tomb's entrance is at #13, right where the blue scarab tells you it is. You're welcome.

Very overpriced, don't recommend

Very overpriced. Played the disappearance of cadet turner. 80% of the material received had no purpose in the game at all. We had set aside the envelopes thinking it was the next stage of the game and turns out we never actually needed them at all. We spent almost 45min trying to figure out what we needed to do next with the info in the envelopes and turns out we were done. The game was cute and we did enjoy what game play we had. if it had been $50 or less we probably would have been happy. But even at the half price we paid totally not worth it. What really annoyed me is I left a review stating while the game was cute it was overpriced and would better suited for young adults and would benefit from being advertised that way. Over 5 months later they still haven't posted my review. And have not responded to my emails demanding to know why my review hasn't been posted. It was an honest balanced review that should be posted. I would never buy anything from this company again.

No product, no customer service

Shipping lost the package. They asked for the seller to contact them to process my claim to a lost package. The Mysterious Package Company just didn't bother and stopped answering my mails. Horrible customer service and I paid for a product I didn't receive.

First and last time purchasing from MPC - misrepresented company and quality

This was my first and last experience purchasing anything from Mysterious Package Company or their sister company Curious Correspondence Club. First of all, they misrepresent the quality of their items and customer satisfaction by filtering reviews on their site, so anything critical is not posted. I have tried to post three separate reviews within the last three weeks, verifying each time, and none of my reviews appear on the site. Their products are overpriced given the quality of the products. I purchased a murder mystery case, but I've gotten higher quality products with better components from other murder mystery companies for half the price. If the quality of their products was comparable to that of products I had purchased through other companies, it wouldn't have bothered me as I know they are a smaller company; however, the quality of the Mysterious Package Company products is notably inferior, and they don't even package things safely. I ordered two items, one as a gift. There was some effort involved in creating the mysteries and puzzles, but there is no quality control, and you may receive damaged items, which is absolutely unacceptable for what you have to pay. The gift item, Lucha Muerte, is a flimsy white case envelope packed in a simple brown cardboard box. The case envelope arrived crushed and torn, with many interior contents wrinkled despite the outer box being undamaged. As the item was a Christmas gift, that had already been delayed due to some payment processing issues on their end, I had no choice but to try to patch the case envelope and smooth out some of the creases. The second item was purchased in the same order as Lucha Muerte - through the MPC site - but was a Curious Correspondence Club product. This item had several errors and issues, which were revealed upon visiting their hint site, impacting the ability to solve some puzzles and therefore solve the full puzzle. Both items were represented as being much higher quality and not worth what they charge... then add on the high shipping charges and you've paid even more.

One puzzle in the set and they spoil it

I got the lost tomb set. It used to be a four part series but it's now sent as a single box. This totally ruins it as the later parts include spoilers for the earlier parts. There is one puzzle in the whole set, and the set explains exactly how to solve it and also includes the answer. Nine out of ten for the narrative experience but one out ten for the puzzle, which ends up being very disappointing.

Absolutely the best customer service I…

Absolutely the best customer service I have ever received. We received this as a Christmas gift but lacked information as to what it was as the person that gifted it to us was not with us when we opened it. So we did not understand it was a game and that it would take quite a bit of time to “play”. So we opened up everything and tried to concentrate on the clues etc but was very difficult with 10 other family members and young children running around and anxious to open their own Christmas gifts! So I contacted the gift giver who put me in touch with the company and I emailed them to see if we would be able to “reset” the game and I thought “I doubt they can do anything. It’ll be like a you broke it you bought it” kinda response but boy was I wrong! Angela emailed me immediately and told me she would get back to me within a couple days as the information wasn’t on an easily accessible list. She emailed me a day and a half later with details on how to set it back up and sent photos of exactly what it should look it!! I couldn’t believe it. We will be playing it this weekend!! I would order from them again not just for their quality product but also for their top notch customer service!!

You can not send as a gift without price, company misleads regarding it

Others should be aware that you can not send this as a gift, and response from company is, well, read on. It's sent from Canada. I reached out to company immediately after purchasing as I wanted to make sure price was not included. It took them two weeks to respond, literally the day it was delivered, and response was: "We don't include receipts with our experiences but are required to include a value (in very small print) on the shipping label but nobody every notices!" I included a photo of recipient's box in my response to company, which clearly shows otherwise. My response included: "You lied, as evidenced by photo regarding "small print" and "no one ever notices". Pretty clear to me, doesn't seem smaller print than anything else in print line. And my gift recipient said the same. Very easy to read. Price is very clear, though not what I paid. Are you supposed to tell the truth with Customs regarding cost (price told to Customs was less than what I paid)?" Seems sketchy to me.

Absolutely Fantastic

The customer service is amazing. They were quick to ship out the crate. Let me tell you, it is worth every single penny. The attention to detail is unbelievable!! It is probably the most immersive experience as I have ever had. Everything felt genuine and if I didn’t know about the company, I’d swear it was real….right down to the aged looks of the documents and artifacts. Kudos to this amazing company!

Waste of Money - The Mysterious Packag

No one from The Mysterious Package’s support team ever responded to my concerns about the product, so I’m leaving my review on social about the experience, specifically about the Tempus Fugit package.

I was not at all satisfied with the packages. I had hoped there was more whimsy involved, but upon finding out that the first mailing included notes about a long-lost relative that wanted to endow a sum of money, my parents immediately suspected they were being scammed and disposed of the items. The following three mailings were unorganized and scattered, and didn't have much to do with the first mailing/package.

I was initially eager to send this to my parents for a fun gift, but the whole effort fell flat, which was frustrating and disappointing, not to mention the only time I’ve ever felt like I’ve wasted money on a gift.

Wow. Where to even begin with this nightmare.

Wow. Where to even begin.
First and foremost, do not expect what you receive to be anything near the quality they show on their website. They included a plastic spray bottle in stead of a vile for the liquid, the paper was not aged, the handwriting looks like a 13 year old girl wrote it (heart i’s and all), and it was wrapped in a black garage bag.

Second, unbeknownst to me, they included a note on the box saying “DO NOT CONTACT THE POLICE OR THE MEDIA” which would trigger most sensible adults to do that very thing 🙄 and unfortunately my recipient did just that. A bomb squad arrived, the box has since been confiscated and now there is nothing to show for my $200 gift.

Upon requesting some kind of a refund from the company, they gave me, wait for it....a 10% off coupon code for the next purchase. Yep. Never again. What a disappointing response.

Do not think these are mysteries to solve. What they mean by a "narrative" is a story that has a couple things mentioned in the story included in the box. Pretty expensive way to read a story.
