Misleading Listing, Possibly Fake Gold, Refused Return Despite Clear Policy
I purchased a 3mm 14k gold ball chain that was advertised as solid, but the weight didn’t align with industry standards — it was significantly lighter than expected. I measured it myself, down to the bead spacing and clasp, and all signs point to it being hollow or semi-hollow despite claims. I purchased a gold chain from an Etsy shop called Nanabijou Jewelry that was advertised as 14k solid gold. But when it arrived, the chain felt extremely light, and based on the weight and dimensions, I suspect it’s either hollow, plated, or possibly not even gold at all. I’m currently having it professionally tested (XRF) to confirm.
But here’s the real issue:
Nanabijou lists “Returns & exchanges accepted within 7 days” on the front-facing product page. That was one of the main reasons I felt safe purchasing from them.
Yet when I asked for a return label the same day I received the chain, the seller flat-out refused. She then cited some fine print buried deep in the description saying “sale items are final” — despite no clear mention that the item I bought was a “sale” item.
This behavior is shady, deceptive, and violates the spirit of Etsy’s return policies. If you’re thinking about buying gold from Nanabijou, I strongly suggest you look elsewhere.
You deserve transparency and fair policies when spending hundreds on fine jewelry.
I’ll update this thread after I get the results of the gold test.
Stay safe out there. Do your research. Don’t get scammed.
More importantly, the listing clearly stated “returns and exchanges accepted within 7 days” — which was one of the main reasons I felt safe buying. When I tried to return it the day I received it, the seller refused, claiming it was a final sale — even though that policy was buried deep in the description, not where the return terms are prominently shown on Etsy.
I feel deceived, unsupported, and taken advantage of. If this is how NanaBijou treats honest customers trying to resolve an issue respectfully, I wouldn’t trust their listings or their word.
