Review summary

Created with AI, based on recent reviews

Looking at 109 reviews, most reviewers were let down by their experience overall. Customers frequently complain about abysmal customer service, describing frustrating roadblocks, long wait times, and endless difficulties when trying to reach genuinely helpful representatives. Consumers also struggle constantly with online banking and digital features, finding the website cumbersome and nearly impossible for processing routine payments or managing account transfers securely. Some reviewers were happy with specific interactions, noting that certain staff members went above and beyond to resolve complex issues patiently. Many people appreciated when dedicated branch employees provided attentive assistance and clear, friendly guidance during particularly stressful personal and financial moments.

Maladministration

We raised a credit dispute as we had made an online purchase which was problematic. Months later NatWest are still writing to us asking for the same information which we have sent to them at least three times. It appears that the dispute with the online company has probably not even been started despite them having all the information. We could not believe that yet again, yesterday we received another request for the same information. If it were possible I would not have given them any stars at all. I am just about to send them a formal complaint to see if that gets anywhere, though I won't be holding my breath!

Should we close our accounts?

My wife called into the Manchester Market St branch to draw out £900.00 only to find there are no tellers in branch at weekend. She was informed abruptly by a customer service assistant that it is bank policy to not have tellers at the weekend. She was also told she could increase her daily limit but would have to wait at least 24 hours. When she said she didn't want to increase her limit she was again abruptly told she should make arrangements to visit in the week. How is she supposed to do that when she starts work before your branches open and finishes after they close? Is it currently bank policy to be so unpleasant to your customer base that nobody will care when all your branches eventually close? As it stands why are your branches even open at the weekend there are enough cashpoints in the area.

Absolutely atrocious service

Absolutely atrocious service. I have been trying to pay £72 of my overdraft from 2020 that I forgot about. They managed to find my details once after 30 minutes on the phone, the lady transferred me to the accounts team and assured me she would pass my details on so they could locate me. The lady cold transferred me, the man wasn’t able to help and asked me to call back once I found the sort code and account number because good old traditional DPA doesn’t exist. I spent ages trying to find the info and called back three times to be told I couldn’t be located and to call back once I had better information. My name, date of birth, address, sort code and account number wasn’t enough. The staff are as useful as a chocolate teapot. My credit report is ruined every month because of this. I registered a complaint, I’ve received a generic email apologising for the time and thanking me for my patience. Whenever I email them I’m told it will be passed to the correct department. What a load of rubbish. They have 8 weeks to resolve a complaint and guess what, it’s been 8 weeks. Dreadful.

Absolutely terrible bank to be with

Absolutely terrible bank to be with. I would not advise anybody to jump on board.

A retailer bounced my money back after a double payment has been made. 1 week later, the money isn’t in my account and is missing. Spent an hour on the phone to an advisor saying they don’t know where my money is?? Wow, surely that’s fraud.

Terrible service

Terrible service, they rang me to confirm details of my account. Apparently this is something they have to do every now and again. However they had me on the phone for 30 minutes, they wanted me to confirm what a 100 and 200 cash withdrawal were for from years before. This is going to far.

Pocketing funds

Pocketing funds. Their bereavement department seem efficient, organized, helpful … but after months and months going through their process of slow walking, stalling and drip feeding information it certainly appears like it is a scheme of misinformation and incompetence designed to deny inherited money to be released. We have provided every document they required - rather than a comprehensive review to inform you of exact next steps they drip feed excuses (taking over a month each time to tell you their next requirement) asking for another and another hoop to jump through. Give me a precise and accurate summary of what you need and I will provide it. I provided your original list to the letter and rather than assessing the documents all together you have drip fed changes one document at a time with months in between responses …. Constantly moving the goal posts and telling me it’s all in hand suggests you have no intention of releasing funds unless through law suits. For those who have lost relatives and are vulnerable this is a disgraceful way of operating…the lowest form of banking manipulation.

Avoid at all cost

I’d give a zero if I could. The fraud department are one of the worse I’ve even encountered. I raised a fraud transaction which is yet to be resolved and has been going for over a month. Everytime you call you get passed onto 2 or 3 useless people who obviously don’t have a clue what they’re doing. Don’t even get me started on the complaints department as they attempt to resolve nothing and lie to customers by making promises they don’t seem to be able to deliver on.

After 12 years with the bank, the time has now come for me to leave them.

I’m giving 1 star because I don’t know…

I’m giving 1 star because I don’t know if can give less than that. Under extraordinary circumstances ( death of my only grown up son 27 years old in 2018 October 15)couldn’t claim PPI and I made a claim after that because I was mentally broken after my son’s death in the most unexpected horrible way. This bank is heartless and a cruel bank and can not understand what I went through to call it an extraordinary circumstance and why I couldn’t claim PPI before the deadline of 29 th August 2019. Look at the greed of the higher officials getting paid and me a senior citizen dependent on my only son who died gets a horrible justice by the rejection of payment back of PPI even in those tragic circumstances.
No body should trust this bank and it’s not fit for purpose to serve the British public. !

The worst so call customer service if…

The worst so call customer service if you will get id from NatWest team, after logging a complaint this was passed to agent who completely did not know her job and replied back which was unrelated to my complaint, asked to relooked and same response, than asked it to looked at some in UK was promised, after calling several times all say the same lines like there all have a script to read, asked for manager was told NO as there have no manager in call centre 😂no wonder , then I was told by one cowboy worker that we have hundreds of people waiting with complaints in for months 🤔so you see how NatWest managed there service absolutely shambles and untrained workers who have no knowledge at all a lady named Helen was the worst I ever spoken to, I will also be emailing the company CEO to what sham customer service is being delivered, also just opened accounts with more better rating, if you look up NatWest is low in rating of many it is service no wonder if you have staff likes of course the rating will be down.

Giving Credit Where Credit is Well-Deserved…

Today I had the great pleasure of resolving a tricky fraud problem with the N/WEST credit card service. I spoke with Sharron, and the service I received could not have been better. Her professionalism and customer relations skills were of a very high order. Well done!
