Despicable and dishonest practices

I was having trouble installing my new Brother Printer and googled the Brother Website. I somehow got redirected to the Netrix NZ website (my fault for not checking the URL ).
I entered my details and then tried to install the Printer driver and got an error message. Simultaneously I get a call from someone called James who said he was from Brother and had identified a problem with my computer and could rectify the driver problem if I gave him access to my computer.
I was very cautious and asked how could he prove he was from Brother. He said he could give me his employee ID and I could call him back on their helpdesk number; he was very persitent.
I said I would try and resolve the problem myself and then did some checking.
It was then I realised that the website was not Brother and neither was the Helpdesk Number the same as the Brother phone number.
When I got on the Brother website I was able to resolve the install problem.
In the middle of the Install James called me back and I challenged him about who he really worked for and why his phone number was coming up as suspected SPAM
He still maintained that he was a Brother Employee and wouldn't back down, offering to send a Technican to my House.
I then said if he did I would call the police.
In the end I hung up on him as he had no shame at all.

The encounter and brazenness of James left me shaking. They seem the be a legit company, who prey on people who use Google like I did to get support and behave in a dishonest despicable way.
Please do not deal with these people, I shudder to think what may have happened if I had been foolish enough to give them access to my PC.
I am naturally suspicious and have an IT background, but they almost fooled me

Freaked me out

Tech guy convinced me to give him access to my computer. He wouldn't give me the name of the company he worked for. Kept dodging the question. Said he was epson support. He did get my printer working but then insisted I get protection software from him. Lowest price option was $600. I said I didn't want to get it. If I needed it I wanted to look at other providers and reviews. I asked him who it was with. He said one of the top providers but there was no evidence of that. The quote was just numbers typed in by him on my notes page. When I said I didn't want to pay that much he halved the price. He was just very dodgy. He said he had fixed the problem and I had to get it. If I didn't get it, I had to let him put the computer back to the way it was, and then my printer wouldn't work again. I said ok do that.
At one point he opened my paypal account and was asking me to put through the transaction. This is what really scared me, that he could open my paypal account. But I guess he couldn't access it without a password, or he would have.
He gave me a contact number and said I could call him anytime if there were any further problems. But I didn't trust him. He was too pushy. I said how do I know if I can reach you on that number?
He quoted me a price in dollars and I said is that Australian dollars? He said no that's US dollars. Then he said he would give it to me in AUD. It was the same price. He obviously didn't know where I was and didn't realise AUD have a very different value to USD.
In the end I hung up on him and uninstalled the software that allowed him to control my computer. I also changed my computer id password. He has called back a dozen times since then, and it is still the same day.

I highly recommend Netrix for their web…

I highly recommend Netrix for their web design and web development. Firstly their ability to design a website that looks stylish and professional. Netrix has always been quick, efficient and polite in communication, whether discussing the look of the website or the needs of the business, through to all the little tweaks and adaptations that are needed to keep the site up to date and responsive to the requirements of an active business.
