Subpar customer experience for very expensive and great product

I placed an order on October 23rd, the estimated delivery date was indicated to be “as stated in the website”, which was up to 3 weeks. A month has passed, I had to contact myself support to ask when my order would be delivered. They indicate me between 18-19 November. It was not delivered and I received no contact from them or the courier.
It is astounding a premium product has this support. After reading here other experiences I am considering cancelling my order, this is not going to end well.

Update: the order was further delayed, however it was finally delivered. The product itself is very good, but I can't give 5 starts when the delivery has no tracking, takes a month and a half, there are no clear deadlines when ordering, and once they give you a date it is not respected. Furthermore, it doesn't say it anywhere but without lift they won't deliver the product to your door.

Frustrating Delivery Experience with Steelcase - 2 Months and Still Waiting!

I’ve been waiting for my Steelcase Gesture chair since September 18th. The delivery experience has been incredibly frustrating, primarily due to the delivery company, VIR by JP, which has been unprofessional and unreliable. When they first attempted delivery on October 9th, they refused to bring the chair up to my apartment, expecting me to retrieve it directly from the truck on the street, which I declined.

Since then, I’ve been in touch with Steelcase, and while they have tried to help, the issue remains unresolved. After a month of back-and-forth, I finally agreed to pick up the chair from the truck, and we scheduled delivery for October 28th. I even took a day off work to be available. However, on that day, the delivery company called, asking me to prepare my chair for pickup, mistakenly thinking I was returning it instead of waiting for its initial delivery. Frustrated, I contacted Steelcase again, and we rescheduled for November 5th. Today, November 4th, I was informed that the delivery had been postponed once more to November 8th.

I genuinely appreciate Steelcase's products, but until they address these issues with their delivery partner, I will not consider future purchases. Their support team has tried to assist, but communication has been slow, and ultimately, they’ve been unable to effectively manage this delivery company. If you want to avoid waiting months for a product, I would strongly advise reconsidering any purchase from Steelcase.

Avoid! High price! Unusable chair! Poor service! Unresponsive customer support!

I ordered a Steelcase Silq chair for €1,399 at the beginning of August this year. It took a month for it to arrive. When I went to assemble it, it turned out that the wrong footrest had been packed and the gas spring was too narrow, reaching all the way to the floor. After contacting customer service immediately and sending pictures of the problem, it took several weeks for the service engineer to arrive. He wasn't properly briefed on the problem and didn't have the right parts, so he left without solving the issues. Now, two and a half months after ordering, I still don't have a chair to sit on, and I'm still getting no answers from customer services.

𝗨𝗽𝗱𝗮𝘁𝗲 𝗮𝗳𝘁𝗲𝗿 𝗼𝗻𝗲 𝗺𝗼𝗿𝗲 𝗺𝗼𝗻𝘁𝗵:
The service engineer arrived after another month. This time he came with the wrong spare part. He came with the identical gas spring instead of the correct footrest. He then wrapped the wrong gas spring in tape to make it fit the large hole in the footrest. The results is a botched repair and a chair that is not loadable with body weight without the gas spring hitting the floor. I have now reached out to the customer service in the hopes to return the chair after not having a place to sit, three months after ordering.

Save yourself time and money. Don't buy Steelcase.

Despite a recommendation to not use Steelcase, I still went with them. Silly me. The company has been completely unresponsive to issues with the chair. Don't waste your time or your money buying Steelcase. I would not hesitate to recommend buying an alternative such as Herman Miller.

I've never left a review good or bad for office equipment before but this has been so poor I feel I need to let others be aware.

Edit: In response to Steelcases' "we have no issue associated with your order" I have forwarded to the suggested email address the original issue, my answer to the initial response, the follow up chase to that which never got a response and also the second follow up which also never got a response.

Steelcase also need to work on how they check their email records. The recent spate of bad reviews is very telling.

They partnered the worst delivery company

They chose to partner with the worst courrier I have ever encountered. They send you an SMS that your delivery can be planned with a link that doesn’t work. Then you have to call them by yourselves and the answer you get is “yeahh maybe we can deliver next week, but probably not”.

I then asked Steelcase to cancel and refund my order, which they did very quickly. Unfortunately, the delivery company never seemed to understand the cancellation because they came to my doorstep 3 times and sent me an SMS every day to “pick up my return”. I have nothing to pick up because it was never delivered in the first place.

I understand that this is not Steelcase’s doing, but they are the ones that chose to partner with this delivery company so they are in my opinion still responsible for it.

Seat Height Issue with Gesture Chair

The Gesture chair is generally well-made and comfortable, but I encountered a problem with the seat height.

The specifications state that the lowest seat height is 415 mm, but the chair does not adjust below 530 mm. This discrepancy significantly affects my comfort level, as I was relying on the specified adjustability.

Other than this height issue, squeaking noises started after a while. The incorrect seat height as listed in the specs has made it so difficult for me to use the chair comfortably.

Update: Returns have been accepted, and the refund process is complete. The support I’ve received has been outstanding, from customer service to brand assistance with their products. As a result, I’ve decided to update my rating.

BAD delivery system.

The order was placed on August 25. 3 weeks was estimated delivery (Netherlands). The message was sent to phone to make an appointment. Only possibility for delivery was 3rd October which was 5 weeks plus from purchase date. It didn't bother me that much. I chose 3rd October. But I got a call that they will deliver earlier on 10th September. Reservation was made but no one showed up. A new appointment was made for 17th of September. No one showed up again. So I cancelled the order. The refund was done within 2 days which is why I gave 3 stars. After all that on 3rd of October orginal appointment date of system their delivery carrier showed up with chair even when order was cancelled. I refused the delivery.

It's better to buy from one of their known dealer than steelcase them selves. Chairs are fantastic but Steelcase really need to fix personal order delivery system which is bad since 2 years of reviews I see here.

Poor/no service from delivery company and Steelcase

Purchased a chair from Steelcase and was happy to wait for the chair to be manufactured. I did not expect that the delivery service they use to notify me to select a delivery date then offer me no available dates for several days with no way to contact a person to find out if there was some problem, meanwhile repeatedly requesting that I book my delivery.
Upon receiving available dates, the earliest was 11 days after that initial notification. Fine, not exactly enjoying the experience of purchasing my premium chair so far but I can wait 11 days.
The morning of my delivery I get a cancellation notification and am informed that I will have a new date within 24 hours. At this point I'm losing faith in the delivery company so I email Steelcase to complain about the poor delivery service. That was days ago but haven't received any response from Steelcase.
48 hours later, I find a way to contact the delivery company (am only allowed to do so 48 hours after cancellation despite being told I would have a date within 24 hours) and I am offered a new delivery date a full 18 days from the initial notification but at this point I have no confidence in the company to deliver anything and no confidence in Steelcase to respond to any customer support enquiries or their choice of partners for things like repairs or support, let alone getting the chair back to them. I have requested they cancel my order and refund me so I can purchase from a competitor but, unsurprisingly, have had no response. Simple responses to queries might have done something to reassure me that they were a company which support their products.

Delivery issue

I have now received the chair and all is well. There was a bit of a communication issue with the shipping partner but in the end it worked out perfectly. The delivery driver was very friendly and pro active in his communication, he was in contact with me 2 hours before arrival and arrived exactly when he said he would. I have now assembled the chair and its everything I expected the chair to be.

So if you order something and you are from the Netherlands, expect to have a bit of patience with the delivery process, or make it easy on yourself and find somebody who knows a bit of French.

I'm sure the chairs are great, all the great reviews they are getting are clear enough. Its just to bad that i can't experience it because the shipping partner Steelcase uses is absolutely horrible. The shipping partner is Vir by Jr and they ignore emails. The telephone line is a tape that is only in french. And the phonenumber they provide in the communication they send to schedule a delivery apointment is no longer in service. If the chair is as good as the company's ability to pick a reliabe partner i am very worried about my investment. I will give it another week before i will just cancel the order all together.

Cancelled after 3x failed to deliver

Placed order in July, 3 failed delivery appointments I stayed home for all day. Searched for the carrier to find out it has a very bad reputation. No idea why a premium brand works with such horrible carrier. Was offered 5% compensation for wasting my time which felt like a good gesture (pun intended...) at first, but upon canceling my order I could kiss that 5% goodbye. Refund took 3 days total which was okay. 2 months past, still no new chair.

Squeaking noise....

So, I bought a Steelcase Amia in November 2023. Since then, squeaking noises started about 2 months after the purchase.

I contacted customer service, and they asked me to apply lithium grease, which I did. The noise stopped for 3-4 weeks, but I have to reapply the grease every month since.

Last June, the noise became unbearable. I wrote to customer service again, and they sent me a new chair.

The noise reappear after only one month of use.

I am very disappointed with the quality of this chair. I did not expect to encounter such persistent issues with a chair at this price.

This is unacceptable.

Issue with the seat height of Gesture

Gesture is overall a good chair, but I couldn't use it comfortably due to the height issue.

The lowest seat height is written as 415 mm in the specs, however it doesn't go lower than 480 mm. I'd expect it to be adjustable according to the specs. Except that issue I was happy with the chair. Thanks to the customer service for their reaction for the resolution of the problem.

The delivery was excellent

The delivery was excellent, and the chair arrived fully assembled. The delivery time was quite reasonable. I've purchased the Steelcase Amia, and it's fantastic!

We had the worst customer experience…

We had the worst customer experience ever! We purchased a Steelcase gaming chair for our son's birthday, and it arrived with a broken lumbar bracket. My wife experienced an extended wait on hold and encountered unhelpful customer support while documenting the damage, receiving return packaging/instructions, and awaiting a replacement. The process was not only time-consuming but also slow, with a noticeable lack of urgency from the company. Weeks later, we received a replacement unit, only to discover it was broken in the exact same manner. One would assume that a company priding itself on high quality and commanding premium prices could provide better customer support, quality control, and design. We are still struggling to receive the next unit and return the second defective chair. Our disappointment with this company is profound. I would advise any consumer or office manager to reconsider placing orders with Steelcase.
