Took my pet fancy rat here for treatment. She was losing fur around her neck, itching, and scabbing. She also had a recurring overgrown tooth. Making an appointment was so easy, and the receptio... See more

The veterinarians conducted a thorough examination and clearly and clearly explained the diagnosis and treatment options. The most important thing is that my dog feels comfortable throughout the entire visit. I am grateful to the staff for their good care and concern.

Just this week brought my dog in for teeth cleaning. He’s been seen by vets there for the 3 years I’ve had him. Never once during an exam did vet say he needed teeth cleaning. I was the one who expressed my concern. Fast forward…12 teeth taken out. Cost outrageous. I expressed that I needed to pick him up close to 3 so that I could make it to work. Sat in parking lot till 5. Other then $$$ not sure they care.

I got charged for a office visit in which they never looked at my cat
just asked what was wrong with her and I told them she had like
clogs of matted fur that need to be cut off or shaved off , and they didn't do such a good job as before and my cat was in pain cause of how they shaved her, I will never let them shave her again the people were nice and all but I felt I shouldn't have been charged $69.00 for the visit

Bad day at vet hospital iarrived at the Lakewood animal…

I arrived at the Lakewood animal hospital with our dog at the time I had written in my pocket calendar. I was informed via phone that my appt. Was for 1:20, not 12:40 which was my written time. I had appointments scheduled for doctor visit and for grooming. I was told the doctor was with a patient in an examine room. They would have the doctor or groomer call me.
I waited in my car almost 40 minutes!
No one called nor did anyone come out to my car.
I called the desk again. I told the person that I was waiting outside for 40 minutes. The person again informed me that I had written the wrong time down, my error.
I explained that I was given a time to see the vet first and then the groomer would handle the dog.
When I asked what time was the vet appointment and the groomer appointment, both appointments were scheduled for the same time. Oh sorry, yes that does seem strange doesn't fit. That's the answer I got.
I was already annoyed because of the wait. I was told ads soon as someone free they would come outside. I cancelled both appointments. Oh would you like to come another day!?
Why. So you could screw up again.
Very disappointed with this group today. I feel an apology is well deserved especially how they insisted that it was my error, when I pointed out the same time they had for 2 different appts. Oh that's odd isn't a satisfactory answer.
I took a day off from work, plus they never returned my call. It was handled like careless attitude. Very poor

I would like to make a recommendation…

I would like to make a recommendation to anyone needing a vet for their animal. We have lost 2 animals (a kitten and an 8 year old dog) within a month and a half. This vet takes your animal in asap and has shown so much compassion and generosity by helping us out with some financial costs of losing two pets recently. Thank you to Ocean County Veterinary Hospital on River Ave. in Lakewood for showing kindheartedness during these difficult times. Hopefully I won't have to see you soon, but all my business will go to you in the future. ♥️

I don't typically post reviews

I don't typically post reviews, and clearly OCVH does not need me to vouch for them, but they are a truly incredible practice. Thanks to a referral from another lifelong customer of theirs, I brought my critically ill parrot to Dr. Briggs in 2015 following numerous visits to emergency hospitals with no resolution. Dr. Briggs not only saved his life, but took the time to educate me on how to provide him with the best ongoing care. I can't stress enough how poor the outcome was looking before his treatment. I only wish I had found him sooner.
It is now 2018 and I have been back regularly for routine checkups and grooms with Briggs. I do not have a negative thing to say about a single experience I have had. My parrot has been sneezing recently so I spoke to Kathy (who is always wonderful), who assisted in providing me with a recommendation from Dr. Gottlieb to bring him in sooner rather than later if possible (bird owners know that seemingly minor symptoms can turn serious very quickly). She then made me an appointment for the same day with Dr. Crawford as Briggs was not working. Dr. Crawford was awesome. Caring, patient, knowledgeable, and educational. I already had complete trust in this practice, but getting to meet another doctor here made me love them even more.
The technician and CSR staff supporting the superhero vets here are just good people. I don't know how to put it more simply. Everyone I have interacted with has been professional, friendly, warm and caring. Everyone. Even the staff members that walk by go out of their way to acknowledge me and say hello excitedly to my bird. It's obvious they are passionate about animals and see them in the same special way that all animal lovers do. I have the utmost respect for their dedication, sensitivity and empathy, especially considering the emotion and stress that comes with their line of work. I have to mention Melissa in particular. We both met each other on our first days at OCVH, just from opposite ends of the counter. She is an excellent example of what makes this practice so special. Niko is also fairly often the lucky tech that has to wipe bird poop up during our visits. Thanks, man.
To wrap this novel up, I feel very fortunate to have this team and would recommend them with absolute confidence to anyone. I was abused as a child, and crossing paths with my parrot 14 years ago saved my life and got me through it. Of course the people at OCVH don't know that, but that is exactly the point. I don't have to explain to them how much I love my parrot or how important his well-being is to me; they understand that already and apply that level of care to all of their patients. I just hope the entire team knows how significant their efforts are for people like me. Thank you.
