Off Piste Performance Reviews 

Attended the off piste and ski mountain skills course, combining focused tuition of off piste skills and ski touring skills on alternating days. This is an excellent course for those aspiring to progress their off-piste activities. Alison is excellent at identifying areas that need attention and gives clear, practical advice which has certainly improved my ability to assess conditions and choose appropriate techniques. Would highly recommend.

Over three morning sessions and one afternoon (to practice in slush) Alison took our group over some intimidating terrain and taught us the skills to handle it with confidence. She's very good at identifying the chief weaknesses in your technique and giving you concise ways to fix them. On our 'off' day we toured up into Cirque Maudit guided by James who was a mine of useful information and also very willing to explain his thought processes as he guided us.

Highly recommended course and experienced instructor: 4 half-days of instruction in a small group, personal tips, and a toolkit of skills to apply in all off-piste conditions. I'm sure the course has already, but will continue to vastly improve my skiing in the future.

This was a great week of instruction with a super teacher. Alison explains everything very simply, and is expert enough to demonstrate it all herself, and to give perceptive feedback. The single take-aways from each day were a great way of implanting the techniques. Happy to say it's (mostly) stayed with me in subsequent steep off-piste runs.

Gillian is undoubtedly the best ski instructor I've had. She was quickly able to home in on the key aspects of my technique that I need to work on, gave me the tools to do so and provided ongoing feedback over the two days on how I was getting on, including with video. She was able to help us make the most of the mixed snow conditions, including a fun run down Summit Gully to the Braveheart chair. And in spite of the technical focus and dreich weather it was a fun two days! Highly recommended!

Gillian was an excellent guide to our group even with challenging Scottish conditions. She worked on building skills and confidence on the front of the mountain and moved to the back corries in the afternoon. We stayed together for instruction and then broke out into smaller groups to ensure that all skill levels were covered. She gave direct and specific instructions to each of us and used video to show us places for improvements. We tied our new skills to take off-piste where she was able to use her expertise of the area to guide us through the back corries. While it wasn't easy, it was a great learning experience. I'd highly recommend Off Piste Performance to anyone wanting to go into the side or back country to build and improve your skills. Thanks for a great session!

The conditions where challenging due to the poor season, however the tuition that Gillian gave was excellent. Really enjoyed the off piste via summit gully. I would definitely reccommend the course to anyone who is wanting to improve there skiing ability.

James has guided us around for 4 days ski touring now - each day was excellent, well planned and pitched appropriately for us and our friends. Despite sometimes mixed snow conditions, James managed to find some excellent snow and spectacular routes! Thank you james - we'll be in touch again soon to make another booking! Edward & Louise

You really couldn't wish for a better guide than James. As keen skiers with a growing interest in ski touring, we were looking for someone who could deliver a day's course in Glacier Skills. From the initial point of contact James took the time to really drill down our specific requirements, understand us as skiers and compose a course tailored to our exact needs - all of this meant we learnt far more in one day than what we would have done on a longer course. James' uncompromising approach to safety, easy presence and detailed knowledge of the Chamonix valley mean that we would not hesitate to recommend him or use him again :)

Off - Piste Performance managed to fulfil the diverse needs of our small group. We requested a combination of an introduction to both ski touring and off - piste and our guide, James, ensured that our enjoyment was maximised; he offered a great combination of suitable challenges, adrenaline and opportunities to practise our new skills whilst at the same time ensuring we were safe and well-rested. Furthermore, despite the fact it hadn't snowed for 10 days, James managed to find us some fresh powder: an unexpected bonus!
Before the course, both he and Alison were very communicative and professional. We also received photos from the 2 day course promptly, which was a great souvenir.
Overall, I would not hesitate to recommend both the company and James and will certainly be using them again....in fact I'm trying to book another course with him!

We had a great couple of days ski touring with James which we booked having enjoyed the Introduction to Ski Touring course so much. We chose to use OPP again as we really liked James' calm and professional approach. The days were pitched to our ability, experience and the type of route we had asked for when emailing James prior to the trips. James took us to stunning locations with views and terrain that I will not forget in a hurry! We finished the days with increased skills, knowledge and wanting more! Super!

I've done two different off piste skiing courses with Alison and on both occasions came back feeling that my skiing technique and confidence had improved where I needed it most. Alison is an enthusiastic and energetic instructor and always knows how to make the most of the tuition time, fitting in a good proportion of fun and challenge into the drills, somehow also finding terrain that will suit the needs of the whole group. No second is wasted! I would most definitely come back for another course in the future - and recommend her courses to anyone who is new to, or already experienced in off piste skiing and ski touring.

Alison is an exceptional instructor ; passionate about the mountains , incredibly enthusiastic and instils confidence in skiers of all abilities. She has a brilliant way of explaining techniques to each individual to enable them to understand how they can improve their own skill level - and if one top tip doesn't particularly work for you then she will find another one that does !! Highly recommended

Alison delivered to our high expectations despite early season snow and a varied group of skiers. I strongly recommend her as a teacher and hope she can fit us in for the 2018 season.

Alison is a fantastic teacher. One to one lessons weren't cheap but I made significant improvements in my off piste skiing, and had loads of fun at the same time. Recommended.
