Why are these people in business?

This happened years ago but I'm STILL mad and I would love to get my $113+ back. These people are the reason I have trust issues with internet shopping.

I bought from them via ebay, but Olsenhaus themselves was the vendor on ebay, so ebay is only partly to blame.

They had a product that was a floor sample but they had selected "mint condition" on the ebay site. They arrived with a hole drilled through the bottom of the shoe. Nowhere on the item description was this mentioned. When I complained about this, they replied verbatim:

"A hole drilled into shoe is a customary practice that US customs requires, this is what they have devised- that does not effect the look or wear of the shoe."

I'm not sure what universe they live in where holes in shoes don't affect the shoe and don't need to be disclosed on items labeled "mint condition." To make matters worse, the sole on the other boot broke off the first time I wore it. When I sent them a picture they replied:

"If the heel simply fell off as your claim, it can be taken to a shoe repair and glued back on for less than $10.
If you want to do this and send us the receipt, we will reimburse you."

They did not accept returns or exchanges.

I spent $40 at a shoe store having the shoes repaired on top of the $113 I paid initially.
