Overall

Overall, it is a good looking and good performing tool. I wanted to create a model of the wardrobe using an AI Add On called ADAM. The beginning was promissing but then the website and plugin stopped working together. The onshape.com API was blocking requests from ADAM. The ADAM was saying: try in a couple of minutes. However, even after several hours it didn't renew its capabilities. As a consequence, I haven't finished my project, but wasted my time trying to learn this tool.

Great online CAD tool

I love OnShape and find it very intuitive to use. As a former AutoDesk Inventor and SolidWorks user I found it easy to pick up and didn't need to view any instructions / tutorials. Not sure why others are saying it's difficult, maybe they had no prior experience with CAD.

Of course it is not as powerful as some of the professional CAD options, but it's still amazing the features you get with the free tier and is plenty enough for my needs. It's great you can even create assemblies and drawings with the free tier!

$1500 a year just to hide the works

I really like this service, but it has one BIG flaw that I think disqualifies it from being used at all. The works are publicly available from start to finish. $1500 a year just to hide the works.

If you don't mind someone taking your project and selling it without your knowledge, then 5 stars: easy to use, even intuitive, beginner-friendly.
By Sell I mean, for example, placing it on 3D design sites.

Better than Fusion 360

As a former Fusion 360 user, I recognized the free tier becoming nearly impossible to use. Combine that with Onshape's branches feature that allows me to create different versions and variants of my designs, PDM, free simulation, collaboration, ect, I have been able to design quicker and better. I am now able to design nearly whatever I need to for free. Besides, Fusion 360 is trash at extra plains which is a lifesaver when performing surface modeling. Furthermore, plains are actually visible. I do recognize that Solidworks is better, I also know that it is far to expensive. Onshape is purely intuitive. Besides, despite PTC removing some features in the free plan and making the models public, no one looks in the public models, and they are not ludicrous like Autodesk with Fusion 360. Onshape's intentional limitations in the free plan is just basic business. I doubt it will change much because they have a good business strategy that gives hobbyists something genuinely useful, but it also gives businesses something incredibly useful for pricing options that is reasonable for a large company/business.
