Serious surgery? Pay for it yourself!

They rejected my claim to cover a heart surgery and started asking me unrelated and no-resource questions (claimed that my doctor told them something that did not happen) until they get a grip and use my words against me so they can reject all further payments. After arguing with them and using the dutch law to back me up, they claimed that they do not get affected because they are a private company. They WILL leave you on your own with no question the moment you are not profitable for them.

Also, they are not in the dutch system. You will have to file a claim by hand every single time you want to go to your GP or to the hospital!!!

DO NOT OPEN AN INSURANCE WITH THEM! It is not worth that few euros you save with it.

If you think you’re protected with Oom, think again. They’ll find any excuse not to pay!!!

What a terrible insurance company! Never again!

I am absolutely furious about how Oom handled my claim. My house was broken into while I was at home — I was in the garden! And still, they refused to pay out. They claim my belongings were “left unattended” and that it was somehow my fault. Seriously? Am I supposed to lock the house every time I step outside for a few minutes?

There was clear evidence of forced entry and theft, but they completely ignored it. All I got was a standard rejection letter quoting “policy terms and conditions" and after that emails wirh questions and after each one answered another one with questions. This had been going on for months. No understanding, no support, nothing. Break in was back in March.

I’ve paid my premiums faithfully, and the moment I actually need help, they turn their backs. Total scam.

Never again. Terrible service and zero empathy for their customers.by

Never use this insurance

This insurance company is not going to pay a cent for the insurance that you buy. They just sent questions after questions, and later ask you to get information from the hospital until you come to situation when you cannot get their questions answered. Then they justify it as the reason not to pay. DO NOT BUY THIS INSURANCE!!! It will not cover anything

Endured a lengthy process—waiting

Endured a lengthy process—waiting, limited payment options, and proof requirements. Unfortunately, insurance is still pending, and I'm stuck waiting until Monday. The delay remains frustrating, impacting urgent travel plans. A more efficient system is crucial.

Discriminative policies

They rejected my application for health travel insurance on the basis that I am a French national (even though I am a resident of the Netherlands and work for a Dutch company). I am not sure how on Earth they can legally get away with that since EU law prohibits discrimination for the provision of services to other EU citizens, but I am sure they are counting on people not having time or energy to legally challenge them.

Terrible experience with OOM insurance

Terrible experience with OOM insurance. I have had a new complaint (I need physiotherapy) which they don't agree to pay. Instead, they have been asking for additional information regarding my claim for 3,5 months!! This period includes one time requesting more information from the physiotherapist, one time they made me contact the therapist again, and now they are still asking my permission to contact my general practitioner. So the situation is still not solved. It is unbelievable how they do anything that they wouldn't have to cover my therapy. Never going to buy an insurance from them in the future.

Worst insurance provider out there

Worst insurance provider out there that will try everything they can to NOT reimburse health costs. I had a completely new injury and they refused to reimburse me for any of the costs. Terrible slow response time as well. Takes sometimes 3-4 weeks before they respond.

Be quite careful what you sign up for...

I want to share my experience which is partly my fault. Either way, I ended up paying 1061.80 euros for my husband and I to be covered on our vacation to Bonaire in May (9 days) and his travel to the US in June for a week (I broke that coverage off once I realized what was going on). We're both in good health; 54 and 68 years old. I thought it would be good to have extra coverage for trips outside the (continental) Netherlands during the pandemic. Somehow in all the (perhaps too) plentiful but somehow not clear communication from OOM, it was not evident that the policy cost nearly 10,000 euros per year. You MUST READ EVERYTHING IN ADVANCE QUITE THOROUGHLY. My bad! For OOM - perhaps you could create an app that allows 'turn-on, turn-off' activation of the policy so that travelers could activate it the moment the plane leaves the ground and turn it off when it lands - it might be handy. But as is, this service is really something more for people who are moving abroad somewhere where they may need to be repatriated rather than cared for on site.
