I have dealt with a lot of corporations in my day. Optimum may take the cake for being the absolute worst. In over the 4 yrs we had internet service with them, we have had an "customer service" rep crank call my husband over a month or so until they seemingly got bored and quit, and in general, terrible customer service whenever we needed to call in.
The cancellation process was also maddening. Apparently, even though both of us are on the account, my husband is the primary, so the first agent would not cancel our service unless I got my husband on the phone. Hello 1950's! Although my husband is listed as the primary, I, too, am listed. Why Optimum can't figure out how to allow either person to cancel/make changes, is beyond me. After calling my husband and merging him into the phone call, the agent sent him a code to his phone, which he never received. The agent then sent a code via the email. Again, we never received it. We confirmed online that the information was correct. Not sure what the issue was, but we had to hang up with that useless moron.
Thankfully, the next agent we called asked me for our pin, which I happily provided him with. He still needed to "speak with my husband", but at least we skipped the stupid text and email verification part. Never, ever, in a million years, will I purchase a service from Optimum. It took me over an hour speaking with THREE different agents just to cancel our internet. And why can't people cancel their service online? It's 2025 for Christ's sake!
In addition, one of the reps I spoke with offered a rate of $45/month. I pointed out if they offered their existing customers the best rates all of the time, there would be less of a reason to leave. I'd rather pay more with another ISP, and not do business with Optimum. Worst company ever!

Outraged with optimum. They conned us into getting the FREE phone, which turned out to cost 1,500.000. Then they said lower bills, and no internet for 4 months. Lies. I got a bill for 150.00 for internet, which used to be 86.00.. This should be illegal, I'm not doin it. Looking for a new internet company,

Customer service is horrible. I have been told everything was taken care of only to have more charges tacked on to my bill. Customer service is the poorest I have ever seen. If you can stay away from them. You should do so.

There representatives are liars and scam artist. they keep saying I understand for the inconvenience. and keep going around in circles. They took more money then I authorized, and took weeks for them to send refund (which I am still waiting for) and for a less amount then they took. it's been a real hassle to say the least.

I thought everything was going ok. But I received a letter telling me their service was ending in my area. So I changed providers and called them to end my service. What a joke!!! Two calls. An hour and a half plus. And even though they are ending my service on their end on 11/19/25, they are still billing my till 12/05/25!! I have never had such a run around!! Just enter the keystroke that says customer no longer wants service!!

If I could give this company zero stars, I would. They are the absolute worst company to deal with. But unfortunately, they have a monopoly in my area, so they are the only game in town for high speed internet. I have spent so many phone calls to representatives to work with promotions and contracts for services and every time the rep tells me something, the bill comes and it's not what they promised. Then I have to get someone else on the line and they tell me it's going to be one way, and it's never the way they promised. After going round and round with them to get someone to stick to what they tell me, I thought we were good. Then, when it was time to cancel the service as we "cut the cord", the rep tells me everything is good to go. Then, the following month, I got a bill for one of the services that i cut out. They can't even cancel something correctly. Boy, do I wish there was any other option in my area...

Horrible service. $90 a mo for a service that's out most of the time. Very spotty. When I tried to cancel they argued with me for a half hour to keep me from cancelling. Worst customer service experience ever!

The absolute worst of the worst in terms of internet "no-service" providers. Constant outages, poor customer service and bait and switch pricing are normal for Optimum. I would not recommend them to my worst enemy! DO NOT USE OPTIMUM ISP!

Optimum mobile does not care for their customers. I’ve purchased two cell phones from optimum mobile via a phone call. neither of the two phones arrived in my house. One was stolen at the FedEx facility and the second I received an empty box. I did everything that I needed to do and notify them and FedEx. FedEx claims that only the shipper is allowed to reach out to them and file a claim and with that everything will be settled, but it’s been four months optimum mobile refuses to reach out to them. I’ve put in many claims with optimum and each time they close it out and now I’m stuck with the bill. I’ll never use this company again. It is the worst. I am very unhappy and frustrated. Never again.

It is a complete nightmare just trying to get wifi. Made an appointment to have installed, the date got changed without me knowing. Ok things happens. Tech shows up and spends 2 hours trying to install modem, someone changed what I ordered! For the next two weeks spending hours on the phone trying to speak to someone who knows what is going on! Not a very good communication company.

I have been with Optimum for 10+ years now and to be honest they are a mix of good and bad . Anyway I want to make this short. I was with Optimum mobile some years ago and canceled it when they couldn't add the ACP back then. I am disabled,my funds are limited. My only income is from the government (Social Security). I broke my old iPhone this year and I decided to resign up with Optimum mobile again. They gave me the iPhone 16e which is cool i like the phone. They put me on a 1 year promotion for $15 and change which is also good. I contacted Optimum upto 3 times after getting the phone and setting it up talking to the (Retention Department) how can I get some of my Optimum (Internet,Tv) credits that's sitting on my account over to the mobile department. They said to me due to the fact it's 2 different department it's unlikely I can do a credit transfer, but they would speak to some people and see if it's possible. The first Retention department guy put me on hold for like 15 mins then hung up,no call back. About a week later I tried again. Speaking to the retention department person explaining again I am disabled and all I want to do is some credit transfer over to the mobile line. She put me on hold to speak to someone out there only to be hang up again on,no called back. Spoke to a 3 person from the retention department again the 3rd time explaining my situation to him etc. He put me on hold this time up to 30 mins saying he is trying to get a hold of someone in the mobile department only for him to hang up on me again.. It amazes me how Optimum treat their loyal customer. All I want is to transfer some credits that is sitting on my Optimum Internet/TV account over to Optimum mobile to pay the $15 bill. It doesn't matter if its 2 different departments it's the same damn company and they refused to do it and I will be reporting this to the Better Business Bureau. Optimum wants to force me to pay money additionally for mobile when I have more than enough credit on my internet/TV line they can just use for the mobile monthly plan.

I wanted to complete the survey at the end of the phone call, but the call got disconnected. Thought I would write a review on this site at least. The representative I talked with, his name is Hassan, was very helpful. He fixed the issue I had, and was very nice. Representatives like him make Optimum better.

I am a FORMER Optimum customer. I am happy and proud to be able to say that.
This company, customer service, and ethics are extremely poor.
Poor to no service for over six months. All while paying our monthly bill. They would not resolve the issue. We canceled. They billed us for our final month of service - even though we DID NOT HAVE SERVICE.
Awwwwwwwffffuuuulllll company. Avoid! Stay away!

This company is a COMPLETE scam. After 7 years of COMPLETE TORTURE I AM LEAVING. They take away services & raise your rates. IT IS NOTHING MORE THAN A MARKETING SCHEME. THEY ABUSE THEIR CLIENTS & DO NOT care. Their customer service is farmed out all over the world to 3rd world countries. I SPENT 2 HRS being passed around to 6 different people today having to re tell my story each time. BOTTOM LINE IS I was trying to get services back that were cut & my bill went up. To reinstall what I have had for years...MY BILL WAS GOING UP $70 a month. SO I AM SAYING F U TO OPTIMUM. I WILL FIND ANYONE ELSE. OPTIMUM WILL NOT BE IN BUSINESS in 5-10 yrs. I AM CUTTING THE CHORD TO THESE INCOMPETENT THIEVES & CROOKS! PLEASE SAVE YOURSELF THE GRIEF & DO NOT USE THEM. I can only imagine what their phone service is like! ADIOS!

Avoid Optimum if you can! They were the only option in our area for years and they continuously jacked up basic internet prices until they were 4X+ above almost any other market & provider. Other options are now available with more than double the speed for less than 1/3 of the price so made the switch and cancelled my Optimum service... or thought I had...
There's no way to cancel online or via chat so I spent a cumulative ~2+ hrs on the phone with various people. Yesterday I went through the retention dept where I was offered a slightly better deal, then put on a purposeless hold for a while, then offered a slightly better deal, then put on a purposeless hold again... over and over for nearly an hour. They eventually offered faster internet for only 23% of the price I had been paying, but it simply was not worth staying with them. Ultimately, they claimed they had canceled my internet service, but couldn't send a confirmation email until a few hrs later.
I checked my email today and instead of cancelling my service they changed it from 400MB to 500MB and kept it active. I chatted in to confirm my service was indeed cancelled and after a bunch of effort confirmed it remained active, but I'd have to call again to do anything about it. After 10 mins on hold the call was picked up and I described the issue to the agent who listened and then hung up on me. After another call and a wait I got someone who I believe has finally actually cancelled my service and has reported the other issues, but I still couldn't get any cancellation confirmation while on the call so just hoping a cancellation email comes through later.
Being taken advantage of price-wise for years with no recourse was frustrating enough, but this cancellation process and being lied to that my account was cancelled has been absolutely unacceptable. I never write things like this, but wow, worth avoiding if you can. Optimum, you REALLY need to do better... a LOT better.
(Location set to Truckee, CA but never dealt with anyone in the Truckee location outside of an installer many years ago, all experiences were with their corporate system)

Optimum sent an super rude sale person **Michael Jarvis** to our store. He's the worse salesman ever, rude, disrespectful, arrogant, and racist. Optimum should fire him because he doesn't carry out the trust value of a company.

Absolutely the worst customer service ever. After 17 years I cancelled over them not coming and repairing my internet service and trying to charge me missed service call fees. They lost an Internet, TV, Phone and Mobile customer over it. Again the worst of the worst customer service. Can’t understand most of them say. Stay Away of this shit show!!!!!

I requested to cancel my Optimum service on October 21, 2025. A previous agent confirmed the disconnection date as October 28, but now they are saying November 7.
Despite providing all required information, my cancellation has not been processed, and customer service keeps asking the same questions without giving a clear solution.
I also found numerous reviews online confirming a pattern of making cancellations difficult (Trustpilot, Sitejabber, Reddit). This is extremely frustrating and unacceptable.
Warning: Do NOT sign up with this company. Their service is disorganized, unprofessional, and deliberately frustrating. I strongly advise everyone to stay away!
I demand immediate confirmation that my account is canceled effective October 21, 2025, with no further charges applied. Optimum needs to improve its service and stop misleading customers.

Internet service does not work sometimes. And I was never able to get it resolved.
My DVR service stopped working about 6 months ago. Again, this was never resolved after contacting Customer Service several times.
I decided to cancel the service, however, they wouldn't give me a credit for the remaining 2 weeks that I already paid for.
The customer service is terrible. It's very hard to get issues resolved.
