Do not give Otter.ai your credit card information. Without warning or authorization Otter started hitting by credit card for multiple ProPlan memberships - for other people!! Also the service starts eavesdropping on meetings that you didn't ask for, and some meeting have multiple Otters attending, confusing!! Otter is the worst company I've ever worked with, they should go bankrupt. Positive reviews are mostly shills I'm sure.

This review is not about the quality of the product Otter.ai offers but rather about the scammy service they offer.
I registered an account with them and without making any use of it or sending any invites myself, invites were sent to emails in my google account, including high profile people inviting them to join my Otter.ai space. I believe this is a violation of GDPR rules, I never requested it to do that, it was embarrassing and I had to respond to people forwarding me these emails they received and I had to state that I didn't initiate this action. I contacted their customer service and did not get response. I am entitled to know exactly who was sent this email and be able to rectify this situation.

i've been using Otter since 2020 and it's been a game-changer. I mainly use it for transcribing interviews and it has literally saved me 1000's of hours. The accuracy of the transcription and speaker recognition has improved and I'm usually able to fill in the gaps when it misses something.

Lousy transcribe for an .mp3. It transcribes one sentence sometimes one word at a time. You have to spend hours joining together fragments of a transcription. I purchased clipto.com and it does a much better job. Furthermore I submitted a sample to otter to ask can this be improved? TWICE. No response from their support.

I have paid for the Pro version but it worked on one recording and despite them continue to bill me has never worked on any others. It says I have to upgrade or that I have used all my minutes.

No reply from support. It is a shame as the product is ok, although very expensive. Just does not work I will look for another product and email everyone on my course to find a different product.

I have used Otter.ai for over three years and it has never failed me. I use to transcribe meeting and it provides me with a details summary and a transcript that is approximately 99% accurate (so I only need to make adjustments on new terminology). I really don't know what I would do with out Otter.ao

Otter.ai worked perfectly for an in-person leadership team meeting. It did a great job transcribing the notes, even with multiple accents (American, British, Spanish, Eastern European) and correctly assigned the speakers, which was very helpful. The action items and summaries were great to ensure we had everything we needed.
The only thing I would change was a push notification or something similar for when the 4-hour limit was reached to ensure nothing was missed.

The service functions alright. It definitely combines the words of multiple speakers or confuses the speaker. But overall it is a helpful service with good features that helps efficiency.

HOWEVER, I am the only user on our account. This was intentional. I started noticing that instead of just my notetaker trying to join company meetings that multiple notetakers were trying to join. I reached out for support 2 weeks ago and have followed up on that case 2 separate times since then and have not received any info or responses back. I dug deeper and found that without my permission otter.ai invited other members of our organization to our account on temporary trials that were set to turn into full accounts and would have charged us in the coming days had i not discovered and disabled them. I continue to have multiple notetakers try and join the meeting and still cannot get a response from the company.

UPDATE 2/27/2025: I have continued to email Otter.ai customer support almost daily asking for a response to my support case that began on 2/7/2025. No responses have been received and the issues with multiple notetakers joining meetings continues. It also continues to try and sign members of our team up in a predatory manner. If the system works well, great, if you have issues you will not get even bare minimum support, they truly just ignore customer service inquiries. It is worth noting we are on a paid subscription which states that we will receive priority customer service. I couldnt imagine how bad the non priority customer service is.

It's like a virus, 1 person signs up and then it spreads and then you have to do 10 loops where it makes a worspace and sign other people up to that space so you can't remove your code. PURE MALWARE

It helped me create a lot of good notes, and the transcript was easy to look over.

I have seen many things in my time, but Otter AI’s upload limit of ten files per month for paying subscribers? That, my friends, is beyond absurd. Picture it. You sign up for a service that promises to transcribe your meetings, notes, and ideas helping you work smarter. You assume, as any reasonable person would, that a paid plan means you can actually use the service without hitting a wall almost immediately. But then, like a cruel joke, you realize that after a mere ten uploads, you are cut off. Stopped in your tracks. Told to wait until next month or of course pay even more (a lot more). Ten files. Ten. That is barely enough for a week’s work, let alone an entire month. What kind of serious professional journalist, researcher, musician, or business person can function with such a pathetically low ceiling? This is not a premium service; this is rationing, and not the clever kind. Otter AI touts itself as an essential tool for productivity, yet its restrictions suffocate the very people who rely on it. It is insulting, and frankly, it feels like a blatant attempt to squeeze users for more money. A service that exists to help people should not cripple them with absurd limitations. If you are considering Otter AI, think long and hard before giving them a single penny.

The recording quality is very good. I got a word-for-word transcription of our meeting (even though there was some misspelled lingo). The Summary was spot on! My main purpose is to capture Action Items - especially what I am responsible for.
I like that the recording belongs to me. I can download it and share it with others.
Also, Otter chat is definitely helpful! It helps me with brainstorming ideas, and also helps me find better ways to rephrase my thoughts.

PLEASE AVOID OTTER.AI BY ALL MEANS.

Please conduct your due diligence before signing up! Read the reviews! I believe I cancelled my subscription, yet I am still being charged. Additionally, I received an email about an automatic subscription that I did not authorise. I'm uncertain about how to effectively cancel my subscription with the company. I'm hoping my bank can assist in blocking any further payments. The customer service is inadequate; they do not offer telephone support and do not respond to emails. I do not recommend this service.

Having this app has helped my learning experience in a few ways. I am finding it easier to write my papers, take my quizzes, and review discussions in class with ease. The conversations are available at a very good pace and they are easy to read

It's so easy, accurate, and makes recording conversations a breeze. I am so grateful for this technology and platform. It's a must-have for any storyteller or journalist.

Do Not Click on a Link in a Teams Meeting

This is malware. It infects your computer and then starts posting as if it was you. It's highly embarrassing in a professional context. There appears to be no way of stopping it. The help files are not straightforward. I have made a complaint the otter.ai. The email I received said they gave priority to paid accounts i.e. they are in no rush to remove their malware off my computer...

We love Otter! It has enabled us to provide summaries, action items, and audio chapters for all our content! This was something we could not do manually because of the content duration and frequency. Instead, with one person we are able to produce the content of a huge team.
Same applies to all our meetings! In the past we could only provide action items via a dedicated person. Now everyone can participate and Otter generates the action items and summaries.
I cannot stress how our productivity has soared thanks to Otter!

They are sending invitation emails in your name without asking in your network!

Such a time saver but most importantly Otter allows meeting participants to focus on the meeting vs who said what, when. TY Otter.ai👍

Cancelled subscription 1 year ago, as didn't use much and there are ample of better alternatives.
Suddenlty got billed again. No notice about cancelling.
Cancelled again - needed 5 CLICKS!!! to confrim, that I really want this.
No notice on e-mail or anything.
Wanted to disconnect credit card. No option.
Deleted account.
Logged in with another user with the using the SAME DOMAIN NAME - otter suggested, that I join with the earlier account of "my company" - NB! It should have been deleted.
Not sure, how to get rid of the company and the subscription. Turned to bank to block further payments.
KEEP AWAY FROM THIS COMPANY. Seriously!
