I’m very disappointed with Otoonova’s…

I’m very disappointed with Otoonova’s services. Customer support is extremely hard to reach, and I was charged invoices even before my visa was approved and I arrived in Germany. Additionally, restrictions like no dental coverage in the first 3 months and limited psychiatric care unless a diagnosis is made make essential healthcare unnecessarily difficult. The system seems overly complicated and not customer-friendly.

Very untrustworthy and unsafe provider

I am insured with Ottonova for less than a year now, in which time I got diagnosed with a chronic condition, nothing too serious. As I am not insured for a long time by them, now every time when I go to a doctor regarding that condition, or get a medicine, they require some extra documents, some of them I have already provided. On top of that, now they started questioning absolutely everything that I ever complain to my doctor about, to the point of that being so much extra work for me to do in order to get my medical bills reimbursed. They advertise very well, but the quality of the service is lacking, and they create a feeling of distrust. Also the customer support is incapable of answering simple questions, they just repeat the same sentences, they are nice and fast to reply, but so are chatbots. Processing time is also very long. Overall, for monthly amount that they charge it is definitely not worth it, they just create additional stress and very unsafe environment. But as long as you are super healthy, you’re good, just pay a huge amount monthly and stay away from doctors.

Ottonova used to provide excellent…

Ottonova used to provide excellent service, but over the past two years, their focus on acquiring new customers seems to have come at the expense of existing ones. The review time for invoices has increased from one week to over a month. Despite their assurances of working on improvements, there's been no noticeable change. If you face hospitalization and need to cover substantial expenses upfront, their lack of responsiveness could leave you in a challenging financial situation

Profits ahead of patient care

They are slow to review invoices and they have punitive limits. For example, they limit teeth cleaning to once per year, even though my dentist says I have a condition that requires cleaning every 3 months. So they put short term profits ahead of long term patient care and long term increased costs

Regarding the number of times dental cleaning is covered: the exact conditions are listed in our tariffs. In our First Class Pro+ tariff, for example, professional dental cleaning is reimbursed an unlimited number of times.

Can highly recommend full insurance with Ottonova

I have full private insurance with Ottonova. I am going through my second pregnancy with them and I am really happy. The app and support is great but mostly the coverage is really comprehensive. I was a bit unsure to move to a less traditional insurer but after more than two years with them, I can easily recommend it.

slow, expensive, opaque

Generally slow (wait weeks for reimbursement) expensive tarrifs, and opaque pricing. I've been with them 4 years now and it's getting worse. More than once I have had to challenge payments to get full reimbursement. I'm looking for an alternative

Run away—a disaster

The app is nicely designed, and the chat works well in case of questions. But apart from that, there is a problem, actually a big one: they won't reimburse you. I went to my dentist, who sent me a quote for a dental implant. I first sent it to TK, who quickly responded with the sum they would reimburse. But then Ottonova… They first asked for a series of documents, which my dentist and I sent. Then they kept asking for more documents… This back-and-forth lasted for several months until I decided to give up and cancel my subscription. Very dubious practices; I would strongly advise against subscribing.

Based on your message, we assume that you have a dental top-up insurance with ottonova. Your dental top-up insurance is there to cover uncertain insured events. If an insurance case has already occurred before the closure of the contract with ottonova, ottonova has no obligation to pay benefits in accordance with the exclusion of benefits. In some cases, we have to check more closely which insurance claim has occurred.

Despite the insurance policy and…

Despite the insurance policy and contract made through GetSafe, ottonova violates the agreement and pays out only 70% out of 100% for normal fillings by stating a non-existent in any policy reason. Misleading and cheating, that is all I can say.

If you have past ailments, expect to be rejected

For a service that prides itself on availability to expats, they should consider the different health standards of other countries in their offerings. To be rejected for seeing a therapist in the past (for growth reasons, no major diagnosis) is laughable. Clearly only want the 1% with no major ailments, all about cost-cutting at the expense of the wellbeing of its citizens. I also did not enjoy spending 2 hours on calls to receive an automated rejection message. Only reason it's not 1/5 is because the service representative was friendly and informative.

Ottonova is a fair partner, highly recommended

I’m very happy with my insurance policy and ottonova in general. Been with them since 7 years and had no issues with them so far. They behave like a partner who’s actually interested in good health outcomes, not an adversary. I had no troubles with late paybacks either, they’re usually very fast. The negative reviews on here are partially unfair. My health assessment during onboarding was conducted in a fair way and in accordance with German law (many people here seem confused about the legal framework they’re bound by). Highly recommended

Generally positive experience in the past year with Ottonova. The processing time for bills ranges from 2 days to 3 weeks. The concierge service is efficient to arrange appointments and clarify questions relating to reimbursement.

Be aware

"Insurance" which is good until you have claims. Small claims no problem but as soon as you have larger claim (dentist treatment for over 1000Eur) they will find the reason not to pay. Also 3 months claim processing time is way too long. 2 stars only for small claims.
