Out of the Ordinary opened its doors in Skipton, North Yorkshire in 2017, with one simple idea: to give talented local makers a permanent home for their work - not just a stall for the weekend. After years of attending craft fairs and shows, we’d met so many incredible crafters who packed away their beautiful work at the end of the day. We wanted to create a place where their handmade pieces could be discovered every day, all year round. What started with just 25 makers has grown into a carefully curated collection of work from over 50 artisans, each chosen for their quality, creativity and attention to detail. We work closely with our makers and pride ourselves on the friendly, supportive community we’ve built together - we genuinely couldn’t do this without them. In 2021, the shop moved to its current home on Swadford Street under new ownership from within the team, and we’ve gone from strength to strength ever since. In 2024, we were proud to be named Best Craft & Gift Shop at The English Independent Retail Awards, as well as receiving a Special Recognition Award at the Skipton Business Awards. Today, Out of the Ordinary is filled with gifts that are anything but ordinary - thoughtful, handmade pieces you won’t find anywhere else.
