Avoid Highfield Grange Touring Park at…

Avoid Highfield Grange Touring Park at all costs. We stayed towards the end of April and arrived to find a 42 pitch site empty apart from 4 pitches taken up by a Travelling community. All 4 caravans were strung together with washing lines, transit vans parked in the adjoining carparks, and children running around throwing stones at each other. Having had bad experiences with Travellers previously, my Husband approached them for a chat. He asked where the Elsan point was, by which they replied, 'We empty everything down the toilet!' When my Husband went into the toilets he found a dreadful mess. My Husband confirmed they were Travellers, which would account for the empty site. We decided to leave after only arriving 20 minutes earlier and addressed the issue to the young ladies in Reception. They stated that they had previously had issues with other Travellers but this particular group seemed fine and had no complaints. When we said this was probably due to them being the only ones on site, they informed us that Parkdean cannot discriminate. This is understandable, but their children cannot be throwing stones around when we own a brand new campervan. They advised they would pass on our complaint and we would hear back in due course. We managed to find another site at short notice, further expense and inconvenience. The manger there said Highfield Grange was notorious for unruly guests and not suitable for an older couple. We have since spent the last 2 weeks trying to resolve the issue. Only today after numerous attempts did we finally receive a feebley worded email basically dismissing the matter, no refund, no credit. Parkdean have kept our money knowing full well we were not happy with staying, regardless of the reason we should have received a refund. Nothing, only a 'cut and pasted' email and diluted apology. Why a company as large as Parkdean would wish to keep a pensioners £34 is beyond us!

I am so disappointed with Park Dean and…

I am so disappointed with Park Dean and with how we have been treated by the manager Mark in Mersea.

I am a foster carer, and this was my child very first holiday in his little life and I booked 4 days in Mersea with my other 2 children and 2 small dogs..
Inside the caravan was absolutely disgusting.
My house is 10 times cleaner than where we went to.

It was covered in false black widows spiders, where i cleaned it for over 2 hours as my F.child who has high needs and suffers from allergies and asthma, and I really did not want to complain!.
We were on holiday!!

In the morning to our horror, we found a flea or bed bug in my child's bed.
I took pictures of everything and showed it to the staff on the dest tgat were amazing in initially trying to get it sorted.

The sink was coming off the wall. There were disgusting stains in the bathroom.
The sofa had dirty stains all over it, and that with the cushions smelt terrible.

My foster child woke up at 3am and was coughing, I opened a window, as an f.b.spider fell in.
He was traumatized, so I put him on the sofa with the quilt they gave me, but he kept coughing, and the dogs were scratching.
It was a difficult night, to say the least.
In the morning, that was when i saw how dirty the sofa was, and I let him lay on a stained quilt.
We were there for a total of 20 hours, where the manager was implying the bugs came from me and was extremely aggressive in making his feelings known.
We waited for 4 hours in the morning to show staff and supervisor the caravan plus the pictures.
It was so hot in there as we were fearful of openening a window as the spiders that were massive kept coming in.
My foster child was been so upset and everyone wanted to go home plus I now needed to wash and clean everything from the car before I brought it into my own home, plus go to the vets to make sure they were retreated.

We found out from the permanent residents who were all so lovely that the previous people who stayed had left the caravan in a state and had 3 large dogs and they had spent less than 40 minutes cleaning it.

I spent over £300 for this gated caravan, and they want me to pay for the 20 hours I was there, and they have said they would only partly refund me.

Forget the wifi and the amount of work it was to get permission to take him, washing clean/dirty cloths, car, petrol, de flea the dogs, cloths, food etc

I have written so many emails from that night when I got home and still have not had a response.
I can not speak to a real person after spending hours trying.

This was something my children and foster child had never experienced together, and it was a total letdown.

They had no understanding or empathy on the impact this had left him and all of us, especially with how the manager spoke to us and was obnoxious and extremely patronizing.

Saying if I went, it was my choice but wouldn't get a refund.
I had a responsibility to my foster child to take him out of that situation and moving to another caravan(even though he said he didntvhave a dog friendly one and I would be passing on the bugs I had brought to the next caravan was insulting.

So I feel I have no choice but to write this review.

Shambles at Highfield Clacton

Still haven’t heard anything about our filthy caravan that was so bad we came straight home. We had a three hour round trip the Highfield grange Clacton.
Our mattress had a huge urine stain, no mattress cover, Carpet was filthy, dogs had clearly urinated up the settee and dog slobber all over windows.
Couldn’t believe what I was seeing.
When we went to the club house to find security there was what looked like under age boys parading around with their pint of Stella like trophies. We parked our car in the car park when some lady came hearing through a grass area that wasn’t meant to be used and nearly hit a parked car. It was a total shambles.
Please do not wast your money and time.

Privately rented a caravan on this site…

Privately rented a caravan on this site (Heysham) for 2 nights. Tried to access the restaurant and was told that we would have to pay £21 to get in (a week’s pass) per person. Went to have a look at the menu and explained that it was an expensive £84 to spend before any food costs, without checking the menu. We received a very aggressive response from the security guard that if we didn’t like it, there was the gate. My husband explained that we simply wanted to look at the menu before making a decision. In view of the attitude and pricing structure we then walked away and found a pub down the road. The security guard’s attitude could easily have inflamed this and I recommend his training is reviewed. Secondly, Parkdean I think you’re missing an opportunity here - had a day pass been available we would easily have spent over £100 in the restaurant.

A huge Thankyou to Sadie the manager at Hunstanton, who managed to solve a problem with the cleaning of our caravan and decking, which had been ongoing since April. Within hours of us seeing her - despite a promise from a previous manager that the matter would be dealt with - she sent a maintenance guy to clean it all the same day.
She also took the trouble to come and see us that afternoon to ensure we were happy with the result!
Totally professional, helpful and apologetic.

Racism from the management of the resort

We are a family and considering that we were in the same place last year,Thorness Bay Holiday Park
Thorness, Nr Cowes, Isle of Wight, PO31 8NJ .We decided to return. However, we do not know why there may have been changes in the manager position. It turned out that we were treated very racistly, even pointing out our Polish origins. My surname is old Polish and I am very proud of it and of the fact that, as the history of World War II says, it was on this island that Poles made great sacrifices in defense of people's lives and the island itself. Several of our friends were not registered despite paying for accommodation several months earlier, also because they had Polish surnames. Shame on the people working there, shame on their behavior towards Poles. And we already thought that English people in such positions requiring contact with other people should come from modern-thinking, well-read and nice people. Unfortunately, for the management of this resort, it is quite a long road....
We hope that someone responsible for the entire structure of this center will make appropriate decisions and get rid of racists from its management positions.

DO NOT BOOK

What a sham, booked Oceans Edge in Morcombe, firstly the caravan was dirty and dusty, we had to clean ourselves. Then I went to book swimming on arrival on Monday for the family, and all booked till Friday when we were leaving. I was told people booked 6 weeks in advance, however we were not advised of doing this when I booked the holiday. Absolutely pathetic, childrens entertainment
is appalling. We will never use Parkdean ever again. Zero stars if I could.

Hi Khush, thanks for taking the time to submit your review.

I'm very sorry to hear you were left feeling disappointed after your recent holiday.

Our activity portal does open six weeks prior to your arrival for activity sessions, including swimming.

Pre-booking is recommended; however, you can turn up to swim/ book activities without pre-booking, this is based on a first-come, first-served basis.

I do hope you were able to raise the cleanliness issues with a member of the team, so that they could look to rectify this for you.

I'm sorry you would not visit Parkdean Resorts in future, this certainly isn't how we want our guests to leave us feeling.

Ocean Edge. Fantastic

We have stayed at Ocean Edge upto 4 times a year for the last 8+ years.

The staff are friendly, the site is well organised, and the hire caravans are well spaced out.

There is a service operated by Stagecoach from the site into Morecambe.

The site does have a small shop for the necessity items you may have forgotten.

WiFi coverage is now covering virtually all of the site.

Some reviews have mentioned Heysham Power Station.

Don't be put off. Yes, it is big. But it's not noisy and you soon ignore it. But if you are interested there is a visitor centre for the public.

We have already had 2 separate weeks at Ocean Edge this year and hopefully will be back for another two.

Update.

We have just returned after another 7 night break, our third this year.

And once again Ocean Edge have come out on top.

It's a real pleasure to say a big well done to all the staff on site.

Parkdean Resort - Grannies Heilan Hame, Embo

We booked a 3 night stay at the Granies Heilan Hame resort in Embo in September 2021. We requested a specific caravan to suit our needs and on the day of arrival got an email confirming a different caravan! On arrival we found the caravan very dirty - certainly not up to Covid 19 standards. We had only arrived late afternoon therefore had no option but to stay the night - with our 2 year old - but we left the next morning after letting the park manager know of our complaints. She asked me to email all the issues and she’d get back to me. After complaining twice by email to her we had no response. Then I sent a complaints letter to the complaints department at head office which was signed for on 9th November and have still had absolutely no response whatsoever. Would certainly not recommend parkdean again. Will certainly be chasing them up by telephone very soon

Recently stayed at Ocean Edge Morecambe, caravan was really nice, ample space, very clean.
The park itself is in need of coming into 2021, needs more amenities Nd interactive activities for children, the restaurant is poorly managed, staff rude, yawning when taking your orders, wrong orders coming through, long food wait times, also a walk through to outdoors/indoors games room, not very nice when people are dining, with people walking through in between tables, it was a shambles, they need to sort it

I don't often write reviews... here's why I had to write this one

We have stayed at Parkdean Resorts (Whitley Bay) a few times over recent years. Sadly, standards seem to be slipping. Our recent experience has made us hesitant to go back, and prompted us to write this review.

The curtain rail in the lounge was broken in half, and someone had attempted a bodged repair using insulating tape. This gave way one evening whilst drawing the curtains, with the whole lot landing on our heads.

Our gas fire (the only source of heating in the entire caravan) was missing its electronic igniter. I have no idea why. There was simply a gaping hole where the ignition ‘used to be’. This meant that we had to use the battery operated lighter (found in the kitchen cupboard) any time we required heat, which always resulted in a frightening blowback when the gas ignited. In fact, my partner refused to light the fire herself for this reason.

The grill (gas powered) would not stay lit for more than a few seconds, without keeping the knob on the cooker depressed. In addition, the metal tray which was supposed to support the grill pan was missing parts and therefore unusable. I managed to get our bacon grilled by holding the pan handle and keeping the pan under the flame with one hand whilst holding the gas knob in with the other, but as this took a good ten minutes I burnt my hand in the process.

The filter on the cooker hood was caked with grease and the hood would not extract properly.

The mains cable which supplied our caravan with electricity was inside the wardrobe in the main bedroom. The cable was loose, not clipped or supported in any way whatsoever, neither to the wall or to the consumer unit. This was especially worrying given that the wardrobe was used regularly for storage. I dread to think what might happen if this live cable were caught inadvertently, or perhaps even pulled out of the consumer unit completely by an inquisitive or unruly child?

The mains powered carbon monoxide detectors were due for replacement over five years previously, according to manufacturer’s labels on the casings.

Labels stuck on every portable appliance in the caravan showed that all these items were long overdue a PAT (electrical safety) test.

It was impossible to adjust the water temperature on the boiler as someone had removed the knob.

There was no extractor fan in the bathroom (odd in this day and age) - the bathroom got extremely damp and humid as a result.

The shower waste appeared to be significantly blocked, which meant standing in a pool of dirty water each time we took a shower.

The mixer tap on the bathroom basin was broken, and wobbled around uselessly. The only way to switch the tap on or off was to hold the body of the tap still with one hand whilst operating the lever with the other.

The lighting in some of the rooms (especially the lounge) was really dingy. It strained my eyes.

Although we arrived in late September the caravan was chilly, and downright freezing during the night. There was no way to heat the bedrooms, but thicker duvets would have helped.

Within only a few minutes of arriving at the caravan we were asked if everything was alright and to our satisfaction. I would suggest that this question be asked after a decent length of time has elapsed, so that the occupants can offer a proper assessment. It’s only natural that no-one would have any idea of the sort of problems they might encounter, until well into their holiday.

There is no way that holiday-makers want handymen or tradesmen traipsing in and out of their accommodation during their vacation. Nor should anyone have to decant to an alternative caravan (if given the opportunity) after unpacking all their belongings. Issues like the ones we experienced are major defects which should have been addressed long before we arrived on site. The whole idea is to relax.

For these reasons we can no longer recommend Park Resorts (Whitley Bay) until standards improve. It would seem that the changeovers are rushed or incompetently undertaken, with a severe lack of proper inspection, not only by Park Resorts but also the companies which they employ to undertake safety inspections on their behalf.

PROS: cheap, affordable holiday; beautiful seaside location; dog friendly
CONS: lax attitudes to maintenance, quality control, and occupant safety
