Review summary

Created with AI, based on recent reviews

Evaluating 93 reviews, most reviewers were let down by their experience overall. Many customers found the user experience to be frustrating and complicated, particularly when trying to order repeat prescriptions or access their accounts. The website and app were frequently criticized for numerous bugs, login issues, and a generally poor user interface, making essential tasks difficult to complete. People often encountered problems with verification codes not arriving, password resets failing, and being locked out of their accounts, leading to significant delays in accessing vital medication. The service itself was deemed unhelpful and inefficient, with many feeling it hindered rather than helped patients, especially those who are elderly or ill, and some noted that their personal data and appointments disappeared. Additionally, the requirement for authenticator apps and multiple verification steps was a major source of frustration, with some comparing the login requirements to be more complex than banking services.

Overly complicated and ineffective.

Tried to set up an account and even after following all the prompts (think sledgehammer to crack a nut) was unable to do so and I backed out very quickly when I received a warning that the website was not secure!

I've got 3 serious health issues one of…

I've got 3 serious health issues one of them is dibilitating in several ways the one way that is relevant to this review is mental fatigue if I'm attempting to look at anything that requires mental input I really struggle and can't do anymore after 5 minutes. Trying to navigate this service just to get to the point of being able to use it is one of the most difficult things I try to do online this is on par with the new governments ID service which is forced upon us now too.
Accessing this service requires a lot of security measures to even get it working and for me I can't do it. Do they consider everyone who uses this bearing in mind this is primarily for people with health issues I need it to look at medical test results so I can pass them onto one of my specialists out of county I struggled originally settings this up years ago but it's got even harder I'm very technically skilled with IT but moving GP practices now I can't do it I'm so frustrated as I don't even care who sees my records patients should be given the choice of what level security they have regarding their own information I'm suffering with cancer, a brain tumour and ME when you're dealing with so much you don't need your life made harder by pen pushers with nothing better to do than make everyone's life that much harder we're controlled so much in this country we can't even breath anymore

Registration Problems

I tried five times with PA to log into my medical practice in Scotland using the registration letter without success. You get to the final stage having added the one time CHI number only to be told that you have made a mistake. Also be beware of the fact that PA England is not compatible with PA Scotland. The whole system is over complicated.

Textbook example of how not to delivery a service

Patient Access is a textbook example of how to squander public funds. What should be a simple, user-friendly app to streamline NHS services is instead a clunky, convoluted mess. Logging in feels like cracking a safe, navigation is a maze, and booking an appointment — the one thing it should excel at — is mysteriously off-limits.

Instead of helping patients or easing pressure on GP receptionists, it gently nudges you toward paid services with a smile and a wink. Progressive? Hardly. Efficient? Not even close. One can’t help but wonder if someone’s benefiting from this disaster — and it’s certainly not the patients.

Horrendous app

Horrendous app. You have to go through many loopholes to get on. You need two step verification apps like microsoft authentication which then ask for payment details. Its a security risk in itself . For God's sakes is this where taxpayers money goes

Totally Ridiculous

Not going to waste any more time on this utterly utterly useless app. Same awful experience as all below. Beyond belief that GP practices even consider using it. My GP practice is tearing its hair out with the complaints. Save your mental health and avoid like the plague.

I have tried to log in to my patient…

I have tried to log in to my patient access today to reorder my blood pressure medication, well let’s say my blood pressure was probably the highest it will ever be today ever 😂 , firstly I have already set up verification with email / password /Face ID then it asks for a 6 digit code ( that I don’t know ) so I select option for them to send a new one, that they text to me promptly (tried this several times) but it then asks me to then use a third party app to use for verification I tried this on several occasions but getting very frustrated I eventually managed to do it by taking a picture of the QR code sending it to my wife then scanning it via the app to get access. HOORAYYYY after getting this far I was expecting a blood sample being required to access my account 😂 this is probably the most stressful experience using an app I have ever had. I’m getting my dna sample ready for future use lol good luck to anyone having similar experiences

Needed to reset my password

Needed to reset my password. Apparently I couldn't because I never registered with my mobile phone no. This was never mentioned when I registered. So now I'm locked out of my account and have no choice but to it and re-register, which is causing additional delays to a repeat prescription. Awful app. Won't be re-registering, I'd rather go without medication than deal with this BS.

Absolutely dreadful

I have used patient access for a few years but it has just got more and more difficult to use i am normally OK with tech things but I find this impossible it's so complicated to use it is much easier to access my bank a count than order my medication I will now have to start using the NHS app so just hope they don't complicate this one
Goodness knows how some elderly people will be able to manage to order their medication on this stupid system

Third party authentication: why does it have to be so complicated?

It seems like you’re being encouraged to use the NHS App in order to save man hours in calling the surgery. But in order to “link” your health records with the App you need to create an account with PatientAccess and then use a series of codes to link it to your surgery. Since I moved to my current surgery I have not been able to view my health records and fortunately there’s very little to view; however, my husband has an ongoing medical condition that requires frequent testing and he has also struggled to link his health records to his NHS App. This has resulted in us having to call the surgery to get test results - today I was 15th in the queue and waited an hour for a callback from the receptionist - this doesn’t feel like progress.
We’ve moved a couple of times and have not experienced this level of difficulty before.
We’re reasonably confident using technology, but this PatientAccess portal is beyond my pain and tolerance threshold.

Linking to my GP was impossible

Linking to my GP was impossible. I've tried 20 times, che checked and rechecked the codes, but it won't work. I can log on but not link to my GP. I'm pretty computer literate but this is the worst system I've ever tried to use. No wonder the NHS is a mess.

I've been using Patient Access for…

I've been using Patient Access for several years, but it has become increasingly difficult to sign into. First it was a password, then a further prompt to authenticate. Then they insisted on Microsoft Authenticator, which is almost as bad to log into. I access my Government Gateway with text authentication, so why doesn't Patient Access do the same? I have deleted the app and now use the NHS App to order repeat prescriptions.
