Avoid at all costs

Avoid at all costs. I have been trying to withdraw a wine purchased in bond with them for more than a year. After repeatedly being promised that it will be delivered imminently, I have had no choice but to threaten legal action. Buy your wine elsewhere.

Poor delivery performance

Pros: the wine is very good especially Italian and customer service do respond

Cons
Placed 3 orders each had problems
1. Failed to give me 10% discount and gave me a bottle as compensation
2. Failed to deliver for over 6 months when scrolling through my emails discovered the order - delivered wine with compensation ( lost order when migrating to a new system)
3.Failed to deliver pre paid order with no confirmed delivery date to date - apparently it was sold en primeur( not on order confirmation) and they said wine was in bottle in bordeaux ( spanish wine) and complained it couldnt be delivered to uk due to high cost of transportation. Refunded my money 7 months after taken my order.

No customer track and trace system andimpression they have insufficient staff. I deal with all the great UK wine merchants in the Uk and do I want this grief for every order?

Failure to deliver wine as requested and lack of response

I paid for a case of expensive wine 2 years ago which they stored in bond for me. In November I paid the duty and VAT and asked for it to be delivered in time for Xmas. Over 25 calls and emails produced 3 responses. Two were promises of delivery that were not met. In the other I was told that they had a code suggesting the wine had been delivered last year. For this to happen I would need to have requested this, paid the duty and vat at that time and sign for delivery. None could be produced because the wine had never been delivered. I was offended when asked if 'honestly' I already had the wine! In my final communication I said I intended to bring a Small Claims action and pointed out that withholding my property was also a criminal offence. The wine was then delivered in January.
I have dealt with this company in the past and service has been ok bar a reluctance to forward free incentives offered when spending targets were reached. This experience was much worse so I will not deal with them again.

Extremely Disappointing Experience – Avoid

I ordered a specific vintage of wine from Petersham Cellar (2019), but they sent the wrong year (2018). I flagged the issue immediately, backed up by documentation from London City Bond confirming the error. Despite this, I was initially asked for photos (even though their own paperwork proved the mistake), and it took multiple emails and over a week just to agree on collection.

They then tried to offer me a £10 refund to keep the incorrect (cheaper) bottle — a tactic that seems suspiciously like standard practice. Weeks later, the bottle was collected… but I’ve received no replacement, no refund, and zero updates since. Still chasing.

Be aware: they advertise stock they likely don’t have, and their idea of a “cellar” appears to be just bonded warehouse stock. This felt more like a bait-and-switch than a reputable wine merchant. I should have checked reviews first.

Good Wines

I have been to one of the event on Wines and the experience was great, fantastic wines and truly a nice moment. We were also able to buy wines after the event with a good discount.

Regretably not a good experience…

Regretably not a good experience (Petersham Cellar 37 Floral Street). I ordered some very premium products (top end wine) and, after placing the order I checked that the exact vintage was for sale in their stock. I was informed that it was. Later, after not hearing further, I contacted the office and was promised attention which didn't materialise. On multiple occasions I was given conflicting advice about the order and it later transpired that it wasn't available in their stock. I requested a refund and said that I was prepared to seek mediation through Paypal. I was invited to "go ahead", which sadly I have had to do. To be fair, the website is very interesting and attractive. It's a great shame that the infrastructure doesn't appear to be there to support it.

Useless and possibly breaching trading…

Useless and possibly breaching trading standards. Website clearly states ' free UK deliveries on orders over £200 '. We tried to order 6 expensive Jancis Robinson wine glasses for over £200 to be told it was £115 for delivery ! The reason.....we are 20 miles over the border in Scotland. Last time I checked we were in the UK ! Fair enough charging a premium for Islands but where is the common sense.

Poor customer service.

Placed an order on 8th December. Received an immediate acknowledgment of order, then didn’t hear anything. Chased order by phone on 14th December, was advised that item was no longer in stock. It is for a special birthday. Have now ordered from Amazon.

Bought a case In-Bond for an event

Bought a case In-Bond for an event, the case was kept until I needed it, at which point I contacted Petersham Cellar and they quickly arranged delivery. Customer service was 10/10 and I'll be buying again
