Scam, beware on Carphone Warehouse contracts.

If I could give them a 0 star I would. This appears to be a scam, I opened a new phone contract through Carphone Warehouse and ID Mobile and at that time received different emails regarding direct debits being set up etc, it appears one of those were for this company who have somehow added their services into the contract I was buying, or as an add on? Free at first so you don’t notice it but then charging £20 a month.
It does feel like a scam as it is designed so you don’t notice it at first and then you do not realise until you see £20 charged to your bank account and look to get it resolved. I haven’t received a SIM card for this, so I didn’t know until it was too late. I spoke to customer services who have cancelled it going forward but wouldn’t help for the charges already taken from me, insisting quite rudely that I would have recieved a SIM card or other documentation, which I haven’t.
Why would I want a sim for another contract when I’m already buying a phone contract with carphone warehouse? Beware of this scam and check any fine print closely for what might be hidden in there.
Overall it appears I’m £27 down to this company which I’m very dissatisfied with, had the customer service representative just been helpful and polite I’d have felt no need to leave a negative review, knowing that it can be sorted promptly, but as it is now I felt a review was needed to warn other so they don’t have their money taken.

Hello Andy,

Thank you for your review and for raising your concerns.

The SIM card is an option that appears in the WeBuyAnyPhone.com checkout, when trading your phone.

During the checkout process, customers are presented with several optional promotional offers. These include third-party services such as McAfee cyber security and Pier insurance, as well as our own promotional SIM offer: unlimited minutes, texts and data for £20 per month, with the first 30 days provided free.

Importantly, to sign up to phones4u.com, you are required to select a spend cap. It is not possible to click “Next” and continue the process without actively making this selection. By choosing a spend cap and clicking “Next”, the SIM order is confirmed and initiated. This mechanism ensures customers knowingly proceed and agree to the terms.

Additionally, the SIM offer is detailed on this page, along with references to the free trial and the monthly charge post-trial. The direct debit information is also displayed at this stage, including a copy of the Direct Debit Guarantee and confirmation of the advance notice that would be sent.

We take accusations of deception or scam very seriously. To be absolutely clear: this was a legitimate opt-in promotional offer, clearly presented during checkout, and supported by all necessary documentation and customer communications. Nothing in this process was hidden or misleading.

We’ve taken your feedback seriously and will continue to monitor how our offers are presented. That said, all relevant steps, options, and terms were available and required clear action on your part to proceed.

If anything remains unclear or if you have any further questions, please don’t hesitate to contact us by sending us an email at support@phones4u.com or pop us a live chat.

Many Thanks,
The phones4u.com Team

Massive Scam. Avoid

This company have caused me so much stress, massively avoid. Suddenly received a direct debit payment for £1 back in May so contacted my bank to cancel the direct debit. I had no idea why this could be as had only enquired about selling them my phone which I never went through with. Then today received an email accusing me of owing them £60 for a SIM card that I have ever received nor have ever used or activated. Upon reading other reviews I have found that it’s an ongoing scam they are doing to get money of people. They keep emailing me saying that they are going to take this further and could affect my credit score which has really upset me and caused me worry. I never received a SIM card of them nor have I ever used it so have no idea what they are talking about but tried to tell them this and they keep replying with the same nasty email. If you don’t drop these claims I be taking this to the financial ombudsman as you are clearly scamming innocent people out of money.

Quickly resolved but not satisfied with website

Was quickly resolved but feels like you’re dealing with a robot, nothing is really explained and i was basically told it’s my own fault for signing up to a contract i thought i had initially unticked on a SEPARATE website. Nothing against this specific person they ultimately helped to achieve what i was looking for.

Thank you for taking the time to leave your feedback and review.

We’re pleased we could resolve your query quickly, though we’re sorry to hear you felt the interaction lacked a personal touch. We want to reassure you that all of our customer interactions are handled by real people, not automated systems, and we’ll make sure to provide more explanation in the future to avoid any confusion.

We believe the contract option is presented clearly during sign-up, but we appreciate your comments and will take them on board to review how we can make this even clearer.

Many thanks,

Hi Carolyn,

Thank you for taking the time to leave your review.

The SIM card is an option that appears in the WeBuyAnyPhone.com checkout, when trading your phone. We are offering unlimited data, texts and minutes FREE for one month and then £20 per month, after.

By selecting this option, you agreed to use the same bank details used in the WeBuyAnyPhone.com journey.

However, phones4u.com are hassle free which means there is no contract and you can cancel at any time. If you cancel within the first 30 days, you will not be charged.

Please speak to our team at support@phones4u.com or you can reach them via live chat between 8:30am - 5:00pm and they will be able to process a cancellation, if that is what you wish.

Many thanks,
The phones4u.com team

Unauthorised SIM Contract!!

I have been unwillingly and unethically signed up to via Phones4U, following an interaction with WeBuyAnyPhone.

A few days ago, I visited the WeBuyAnyPhone website simply to obtain a quote for selling my device. At no point did I agree to enter into any contract, nor did I consent to any services being activated. To my complete shock and outrage, I have now received an email from Phones4U stating that my SIM card is on its way, and a Direct Debit has already been set up in my name - all without my knowledge or permission.

This conduct is not only deceptive, but borderline criminal. It is appalling that a company would exploit a basic enquiry and convert it into a binding financial agreement. I did not agree to this contract, I did not authorise any payments, and I demand that the contract be cancelled immediately, along with the destruction of any SIM that has been issued.

I expect written confirmation that:

The contract has been terminated with immediate effect.

No charges will be applied.

Any Direct Debit instructions will be cancelled.

My personal and financial data will be removed from your systems.

If this matter is not resolved within 7 days, I will escalate this to the relevant ombudsman and regulatory bodies, including Citizens Advice and the Information Commissioner’s Office (ICO), and I will not hesitate to pursue legal action if necessary.

This situation is completely unacceptable, and I expect urgent action to rectify it.

You mentioned you only became aware of the SIM activation after receiving the tracking email. However, our records confirm that the advance notice email regarding the direct debit was sent. This is a regulatory requirement for businesses authorised to process direct debits, and we are fully compliant.

We take accusations of deception or criminal activity very seriously. To be absolutely clear: this was a legitimate opt-in promotional offer, clearly presented during checkout, and supported by all necessary documentation and customer communications. Please let me know if want this resent. Nothing in this process was hidden or misleading.

To address your specific questions:
Contract Termination – The contract was cancelled in full on 24th July, following your request. A confirmation email has been issued.
Charges – As you are still within the 30-day free trial, no charges will be applied.
Direct Debit – We have cancelled the direct debit on our end. For complete peace of mind, you are also able to cancel it via your banking app or provider.
Data Removal – Your personal and financial data will be securely deleted from our systems in accordance with data protection laws. Please note, this is within 30 days.

We’ve taken your feedback seriously and will continue to monitor how our offers are presented. That said, all relevant steps, options, and terms were available and required clear action on your part to proceed.

If anything remains unclear or if you have any further questions, please don’t hesitate to contact us.

Many Thanks,
