reduced quality

I've been using photobox for a few years to make personalised calenders. Found there was a change with the website this year and the quality not as good. You used to be able to use 'smart layouts' which was great, you could drag over as many pictures as you wanted and then use 'shuffle layout' to get it the way you wanted it to look. So easy! Now that's all gone and the layout options aren't as good. Really disappointing.

Christmas magic captured

I found it easy to design a book of photos of a school Musical. The pictures were taken in low light by different family members - when the book was printed the photos came out better than I expected. they were sharpened and brightened. I loved the timplates, I went to a stripey circus theme which worked weill with the subject matter. the paper quality was supurb ad the git went down a storm witht he family members who received it.

Shame on McDonald’s

Had this as a prize from McDonald’s monopoly, shame on McDonald’s for being associated with such a poor performing company, Ordered 2 calendars and neither has arrived, even though had message saying delivered, with a photo of what looks like Royal Mail sorting department As one of several unhappy customers to have had issues, as another customer said Do yourself a favour and take your money elsewhere. Unless, of course, you enjoy stress, disappointment, would not use or recommend and going to contact Amex for a refund.

Not as good as before

Not as free to create as before. Limited choice of photo layout, v limited space for writing in. Reduced the page count from 160 to 120. Not all changes were for the better.

Not great paper quality recently…

I have been using Photobox for more than 10 years to make family calendars and had always been satisfied with the quality. However, this year the paper quality suddenly dropped, which was disappointing. I would not have minded paying a little more for better-quality paper.

My order went missing twice because the delivery company delivered to the wrong place. The first time it went completely missing and following a re-print by Photobox, the order once again went missing , never delivered to my address, which was correct and clearly stated on the order. The solution is to instruct Post NL to change their sub contracting delivery company , Colis Prive. They are very unreliable and giving Photobox a bad reputation in our area of Alsace France. Have made a complaint with them, the response was to refer me back to Photobox , even though the orders say delivered with a signature, no evidence of a signature was ever produced! Unfortunately I will not use Photobox again because the delivery is the weakest link in your chain!

Photobox: staggeringly incompetent from start to finish. Avoid at all costs.

My experience with Photobox has been nothing short of a farce.

What should have been a simple Christmas gift turned into weeks of frustration, broken promises, and sheer organisational incompetence.

I ordered a Large Square Photo Book (21x21 cm) five weeks before Christmas 2025. When it arrived, it was embarrassingly poor quality with fuzzy images, visible lines across most pages, and print defects so obvious that it is genuinely baffling how this passed even the most basic quality control. Assuming of course any quality control exists at all.

The book was shipped in a paper thin brown cardboard sleeve, completely unprotected. No padding. No reinforcement. No care whatsoever. Exactly what you would expect if you were mailing a flyer, not a supposedly premium, fragile photo book.

I contacted customer service and they arranged a reprint, promising it would arrive before Christmas. It did, the Saturday before Christmas, except it arrived damaged, with the spine visibly crushed as though it had been used as a doorstop during transit. Unsurprising, given the same useless packaging was used again.

Because Photobox does not bother offering weekend customer support, I contacted them first thing Monday morning in Christmas week asking a very reasonable question. Why was this packaged so badly again, and could they please ensure proper protective packaging this time?

What followed was one of the most absurd explanations I have ever heard from a company of this size.

Apparently, customer service cannot communicate with production. At all. They can leave a note which production may or may not read, and that is the extent of it. Let that sink in. A large international company that openly admits its internal teams do not communicate.

At this point, I was forced to message the CEO on LinkedIn just to get basic accountability. Only then did I receive a suddenly apologetic email from customer service, reassuring me that my next order would be securely packaged.
By now, the photo book, a Christmas gift, was already ruined. Thanks to Photobox’s incompetence, it never made it anywhere near Christmas Day.

While waiting, I received a stream of hollow, copy and paste apologies that were utterly meaningless. And when I asked them again to confirm that the book would actually be packaged properly this time, they told me they could not guarantee it because packaging was up to production.
So yes, they lied earlier.

Then came the final act.

On 31 December 2025, I received an email claiming my order had been delivered. It had not. Photobox had somehow managed to put the wrong delivery address on the parcel, meaning my family photo book was delivered to a complete stranger somewhere in the UK.

At that point, I demanded a refund, which I eventually received, accompanied by yet another empty apology that meant absolutely nothing.

Photobox is a textbook example of how not to run a business. Broken quality control, zero internal communication, dishonest customer service, careless handling of personal items, and an astonishing ability to repeatedly mess up the same order.

Knowing Phototbox they will probably reply to this review with some generic copy paste rubbish which seems to be there standard go to, stating they are "thankful for the feedback" and are "sorry for the experience had" and "will aim to do better in the future".

Do yourself a favour and take your money elsewhere. Unless, of course, you enjoy stress, disappointment, and watching a company systematically ruin something sentimental.

Hi Ciara! We are sorry that you are not happy with the quality of the product.

We understand how disappointing it must be to receive products where the image was cropped differently from your edit, especially when the quality did not meet the standard you’ve previously experienced with us. Canvas prints, not great colour or clarity

I have ordered canvas prints on a couple of occasions, and both times, the print quality and colour were not great. For example, a person with black hair, had lots of blue tones, and the clarity was definitely not wonderful.
The photo books that I have bought have been nice, but I don't think I would order anything from them again.
The canvas prints were for gifts, so I was disappointed 😞

Poor quality

Photos were poorly cut, uneven and had many different sizes. They looked like someone cut them by hand after being out all night. Page says .ie and I thought I was ordering from Ireland but the package came from somewhere in the UK and took much longer to arrive

Received a gift voucher from my son for Christmas to create myself a photo book of my solo adventures this year, Borneo being one. I had to complete the book by midnight last night to get the 50% off promo deal. All fine, created my book on my phone. Go to pay and guess what? Nowhere to add my gift voucher code. I then asked the AI chat who explained only one promo code can be used!!!
But my gift voucher isn't a promo code it's a monetary gift to the sum of £50! What a con, I now have to pay another £30 out of my own money to get my book done. I have tried to contact the AI chat again to get an email address. I've just received my query back in an email. Poor comms across the board. My first time using, I won't be using again or recommending to anyone.
