Plant Listening is a not-for-profit organization fostering reconnection with the natural world through the ancient practices of foraging and tracking. Plant Listenin works with deep listening - slowing things right down - so that we recalibrate how we attune to the world. By taking time to look very closely at the wild lives that surround us we alter our awareness and are drawn more deeply into the heart of life. Participants describe our events as ‘calming’ ‘mind-altering’ and often ‘life-changing’. Both nutritious and healing, gathering wild food and following animal lines soothes the soul, returning us to a state of kinship with the world.

Brilliant and fascinating

Tamara invited us to join her on a foraging walk and we went as a family. The children (aged between 5 and 16) were fascinated to learn about plants that are actually edible, and their various properties which are beneficial to health. Tamara is an excellent and engaging communicator, and very knowledgeable. We are really looking forward to going on a walk with her again!

A walk in the woods

It's good to walk through the forest and know more about what you see, hear and smell around you. The experience has improved my appreciation of the countryside and simply made walking more fun.

Thoroughly recommended! Beautiful.

Tamara has a real gift for opening your eyes to the world around you. Her knowledge is incredible. After two glorious foraging days with her our day to day walks are totally transformed as we’re able to recognise so much more around us, greeting new friends (plants we now know), seeing them change and truly feeling more connected to our surroundings, and more curious. The time with Tamara and the group setting for this learning is so very healing. Thank you Tamara! See you for the next one.

A transformative way of walking

The guided walk opened up my eyes to the local environment around me in a profound way. Tamara clearly held a depth of knowledge of the plants we were being introduced to, but she also had a really gentle way of inviting us to be curious about the environment through our senses and through magically told folklore of the plants.
I came away from the walk learning the names and uses of different plants and trees, but more importantly, every walk that I take myself on going forward has been transformed, because I have a new way of meeting the plants now.
Thank you, Tamara! Can't wait for the next walk!

A good introduction

I knew nothing about foraging prior to this walk around Skyreburn. It will serve as a starting point for future exploration and research on the local flora - I'm glad it was pitched at a level that was interesting both for beginners and the more experienced.

My first guided foraging experience

My first guided foraging experience and an absolute delight. Tamara is an excellent teacher and just being with her for three hours was so calming and uplifting. The time flew by! It was fascinating to learn just how many wild plants are edible and about how they can be used. I particularly enjoyed the time set aside for meditation in the woods. The cookies and nettle cake at the end were a treat. I am really looking forward to the next one in the summer.

This was a hugely enjoyable and…

This was a hugely enjoyable and informative day. I didn't have much of an idea about what to expect, but it sounded very positive. And it was.
Tamara shares a very deep and expansive understanding of nature. I love being outdoors, but often feel that I am missing out on a lot of what is around me. Like I'm a bit locked out. So a few of those doors were gently unlocked and I think I'll go back to walk through some more.
Expect to enjoy learning in a truly beautiful area of Galloway that you would never otherwise come across. Wear decent footwear as you could be going over drystone dykes, burns and bogs; following tracks made by deer or following new discoveries in quiet woodland or meadows.
It takes a bit of effort, but the walking and the learning are done at a gentle pace. And it's worth it. Very much so. A wonderful teacher in a wonderful place.
You also receive a follow up email with details of what was encountered. This helps to consolidate what was learned.
I've gone on a bit. I should also mention the lovely lunch! Plus... 11 year old son loved it!! A great thing to do with kids. Okay I'll stop now.

A special day!

We had an absolutely beautiful foraging walk yesterday with Tamara, feasting on gorse, hawthorn, primrose, sorrel …. and many other plants on our way.
We also had a most wonderful lunch of wild garlic soup, sprinkled with dried seaweed ( delicious!) and flowering currant cake and nettle tea.
It was a memorable day and an enriching experience.
Tamara is dedicated to sharing her deep knowledge about the gifts of nature, and she does this so well, with great enthusiasm and with love.
Thank you, Tamara.

What a wonderful day out along the…

What a wonderful day out along the Borgue coastline. Walking with Tomara was like strolling with a friend. At a slow pace she shared her knowledge of the flora, fauna, seaweed and animals and lunch. We stopped frequently to take in the beautiful of nature and chat. Tomara has a very kind heart and gifted at sharing with people. I would highly recommend a walk in nature with Tomara

Our coastal foraging experience with Tamara

Our coastal foraging experience with Tamara on the coastline near Borgue was both joyful and enlightening. She taught us about the habitats and uses of both seaweeds and coastal plants, and all in the most engaging way. Lunch was a revelation as we saw how our foraged ingredients could be made into delicious flavours and useful medicinal treatments. A truly delightful day.

Foraging the shoreline of Borgue…

A lovely day exploring the plants on the shoreline around Borgue. It was fascinating and informative - and a delicious foraged lunch was a bonus! Tamara was very knowledgeable and I felt in safe hands both from steering clear of dangerous plants, to steering clear of the incoming tide! I will use seaweeds with more confidence in future. Thank you Tamara!

A magical seaweed foraging walk

This seaweed foraging walk was so much more...we identified seaweeds, learned about their many culinary uses, wandered the Galloway coastline, discovered many every-day medicinal plants, peered through eye-glasses at cell structures; learned so much about traditional herbal medicines and folk-lore associated with plants, and then to cap it all, we drank delicious seaweed broth, ate seaweed crisps and nettle cake, sipped birch-twig tea, and discussed the many uses of seaweed in the kitchen. It was a heavenly day. Tamara is pure magic. She is so knowledgeable and learned and she shares all this with such a generous, open-heart. YES, I will definitely take part again!
