Review summary

Created with AI, based on recent reviews

Looking at 410 reviews, most reviewers were unhappy with their experience overall. Many customers found the website to be a horrible dating site, especially since it changed owners, and felt it was a waste of time and money due to numerous fake profiles and misleading practices. People frequently encountered issues with the subscription model, describing it as having hidden charges and an inability to cancel automatic renewals. The user experience was often criticized for being buggy, with messages disappearing and a general lack of functionality that made connecting with others difficult. Some people were dissatisfied with the social media aspect, noting that many profiles were inactive or filled with generic, unappealing content, and that the platform did not effectively filter out users who were not genuinely interested in connecting. The pricing was also a common point of contention, with many feeling that the costs were excessive for the poor quality of service and that the site used misleading offers.

About Plenty of Fish Dating

Written by the company

Logo

The Plenty of Fish story begins all the way back in the distant year of 2003 when it laid down its roots as the first free online dating site. POF believes that building a community where people feel free to be themselves, helps create the most meaningful connections. Every day, Plenty of Fish helps people find their blanket thief, Ikea sherpa, personal spider hunter…you get the point.

POF has always been true to itself, allowing members to choose their own path to connection on the app and matching members based on the things that ultimately make for real, long-lasting love. That’s why Plenty of Fish was the first dating app to ditch face filters. People can feel free to just be themselves. No pressure, just real connections.

Does the FTC really care?

You know what really irks me, The Match Group is the one who owns POF and 90% of the rest of the dating apps, yet the FTC doesn't do squat about it. Look at all of these complaints on here and EVERYWHERE on the internet! And the negative reviews just keep growing. There is not a single trustworthy dating site out there, because no one is willing to create one that actually benefits the person who is looking for a genuine partner.
What an eff'd up world we live in where MONEY is what drives them. They could GAS about any of us who sign up on their scam sites. I'm pretty sure the reason why these sites are filled with fake profiles, is because most of us [genuine seekers] are fed up and DONE with them. So, the only profiles left on these sites are the effin catfish profiles created from companies based in Africa. All one has to do is watch "Catfished" on YouTube to learn where the majority of these fake profiles are coming from. They will pay and The Match Group happily takes their money. F them! I'm done with them! They will eventually pay for what they have caused all of us.
I actually believe it would be better to just DM someone on Facebook. Online dating sites are a thing of the past.

Absolutely horrible

Absolutely horrible. I paid for an upgraded membership at $14.99/week. Tried for four weeks. Got a lot of fake profiles, emails that someone was interested but clicking on the link in the email led to nowhere. So today, I tried to cancel my paid subscription and cannot find ANYWHERE on the app to cancel. Their FAQs provides a step-by-step method, but the steps don't exist on their platform. I sent a message in on their contact form and haven't heard back yet (it's only been a few hours). It's easy for them to TAKE my money, but not easy for me to STOP THEM FROM TAKING MY MONEY! Do better, POF. Do better

Scammer hell

I've had quite a few number of men contact me and have yet to meet a real person. I will let them chat with me for awhile and then the ask for money comes. POF needs a better way to weed out the scammers. In my 3 months on the site (paid membership) I did not meet ONE real person.

Wanting the perfect guy when you're as…

Wanting the perfect guy when you're as far from perfect as it's possible to be is quite the reach but sums up what a joke online dating is in 2025. Everyone regardless of that they look thinks they deserve a prince charming type man and no exceptions. It's insane.

they all prefer complaining they can't see likes on their profile rather than trying to seem like a nice person. Why would anyone bother to message if all they can do is whine about not being able to see likes?

If you do match with someone they'll message you first and then just not reply. It's just crazy. I think most of them are not right in the head

Total rip off!

I paid 39.99 40 dollars to enroll in POF for 6 weeks believing I could actually meet someone special. Here I noticed that even though I could send only One message a day pof was holding back all replies and wanted me to pay more money like another 60 dollars so I could send More than one message a day. They hold back any messages you get from woman in hope you will up grade. It's a big rip off! Total Rediculous! Oh and no phone number to talk to anyone. In the whole month I have been on POF I have received one reply .I know they are holding back because on other dating site I would get 12 or more replys in one week. Please do not waste you money on this Dating site! Omg total rip off!

I have been on this site for years and met a few men who were "real" but I must say that the number of scammers has deeply increased--like in all other areas of our life--. If the administrators of that site could do more research, it would prevent customers like myself to constantly have to do it. I used to be able to scan the photos posted on Google search to see if these images had been stolen from a magazine or from somewhere but it is now impossible to do it. You have to make sure that profiles are verified with a green check mark.

I purch a yr’s subscription & cancelled

I purchased a year’s subscription to POF and cancelled it after less than 3 months due to the overwhelming amount of fake profiles and scammers on this site. Although when reported pof banned all these scammer accounts they were just free to make another account. Unless pof institutes a type of photo verification like tinder has it’s just not worth anyone’s time to use this platform.AVOID AT ALL COSTS

Wish I could give POF a -100 as they’re that bad. This is the crappiest dating app in the market. They literally banned me despite my account being dormant for years! Today I received an email saying I violated community standards! By doing what??? Not signing in! What a joke. I am appalled that they’d take some loser’s word against me who must have felt rejected by me because of my lack of response!!! I’ve had zero conversations with their members, I find it insulting they’d be this inept to not be able to decipher fact from fiction and make grandiose decisions without any proof to back it up. Terrible dating app. I highly recommend avoiding it.

POF is a dating torture site

POF is a dating torture site.
You pay to become a “premium “ member only to find out that you have a very limited ability to to message people unless you pay even more!
You get a message that someone “likes” you and when you click on that message you are lead to a list of “prospects” that dont include that person! You will never find out who the person who liked you is. It’s just baiting to keep your hopes up! What an awful site!!!

Plenty of Fish STAY FAR AWAY

Plenty of FisH dating site is a den of thieves, do not go there. I am a Computer Science Engineer and could not cancel my subscription no matter how hard I tried. They give you the run around and you end up in the same place.
I eventually had to turn a third party UnSubby and they sent a physical letter the HQ of POF in Vancouver 1 month before my subscription was to renew asking them to kindly cancel my membership and guess what , I got charged for another 3 months.
I eventually had to cancel my PayPal account and delete my account from POF.
Now I am trying with no success yet to get a refund. Dishonest, unethical etc. Stay far away, because once you join they start asking for money so you can get more views and conversations. TOTAL BS.

All the profiles virtually the same

All the profiles virtually the same
They can't see likes, if you want to know then ask, their children are their world and you must be tall dark and handsome as well as make them laugh
They all want their dream man yet refuse to make a small effort to be warm or friendly.
It's just a website of demands and unhappiness

Well been on here over a month

Well been on here over a month, paid my money , you can’t see who likes you or respond, no chance of getting my money back, just keeps rolling through the motions with drawings of fish or blurred profiles
Update, 22-10-25, been on it over a month, messages back and forwards saying they will fix it, they never did, I couldn’t contact anyone , so I gave up and deleted with 2 months still remaining
What a grubby business!
They should reimburse me for not delivering the goods I paid for

Utterly appalling & difficult to set up. I'm not tech naive, so it shouldn't have been this hard to join a dating site. Easy to set up your account and profile but try upgrading?! I tried 4 times over several days to join. Kept accepting card details but never upgraded me. Seems like the site/Google just wants your card details.
Am very unimpressed. It takes a lot to get the energy to join a dating site. This sort of nonsense puts you off a site. I'll be joining somewhere else thanks.

POF is an online sewer full of the worst kind of people .
It seems the more unattractive they are the more they demand. Imagine acting like that in the real world. You'd be laughed at

It's completely insane how entitled they act.Imagine demanding a man who is tall, dark and handsome when you're short, unattractive and out of shape?

I didn't send any messages simply because the quality on there was so bad.
If you sign up you'll see what I mean, they all talk about how there must be a connection LOL.

DO NOT WASTE YOUR TIME OR y- ALL FAKE ACCOUNTS.

If I could give this site a negative rating, it would be -1000. I never came across a single legit profile out of 100. It’s sickening that POF doesn’t have an algorithm to weed out fake accounts. I’m frankly very upset because I paid a premium to use the app and was forced to delete it in less than 3 days because of the number of fake accounts I encountered. My advice, you’re better off trolling the streets than trying to make a real connection on this app. I want my money back but that won’t happen.
