Customer Beware
The business practices used by Portable Storage are, in my opinion, misleading and unfair.
When renting a storage container for your driveway, customers are required to provide a bank card number and authorize automatic billing online. The rental is presented as a monthly service, which led me to believe that charges would be based on a standard calendar month.
I rented a storage container on May 6 and completed my use of it by June 1. I contacted the company by voicemail and then again by telephone the following morning to arrange pickup. At that point, the container had been in my possession for less than one month.
I was then informed that the company bills on a 28-day cycle rather than a calendar month. When I questioned why a "monthly" rental would be based on 28 days, I was told that February has 28 days. Despite requesting pickup before June 6, I was charged for an additional billing period because the 28-day cycle had been reached.
After I disputed the charge, the company agreed to refund most of it but still retained a charge equivalent to one extra day. While the amount may be small, I believe the billing policy is misleading and should be clearly disclosed to customers before they agree to the rental.
I encourage anyone considering doing business with Portable Storage to carefully review the rental agreement, billing cycle, and automatic payment terms before signing up. My experience was disappointing, and I believe consumers should be fully aware of how the company's billing practices work before making a decision.
