Great company
I was 55 in october but started my experience with portafina 6 months earlier so when i reached 55 all paperwork had been completed as they cant get any funds till your 55.
I had 2 pensions they started it i recived the first 25%tax free withon 15 days, the 2nd one took longer due to them working month to month so couldn't start anything till after 1st november, portafina said at the beginning it could 6 to 8 weeks and it took about 6 cos of my pension providor not portafina.
I also wanted to take a taxable sum from my pension i rang portafina and the very next day the funds were in my bank account, it dosnt matter who u speak to there nothing is to much they will help you all they can, highly recommend this company.

Awful service with multiple delays
If there were a minus star I would give it. I have waited month's now to access my own money. All the while Portafina is charging me for the privilege of accessing this. I understand that there are financial governance procedures but it is like I am submitting an application for a personal loan. I have had reports and returned forms to give my permission to proceed only to have a further e:mail saying I shall recieve another report and need to fill out more forms giving my permission to proceed based on a report that will be the same as the previous one. I have had multiple interviews asking my disposable income and what do I want to use my pension lump sum for? That is none of Portafina's business but still get asked. Have had more phone calls to them than I can wish to remember and each time told it is being dealt with. More time and more money to them. Once I eventually do get access to my money I will request termination of their services and will not recommend anyone to use them. I can see that I am not the only one to leave a scathing review and that the issues seem to be very similar.
Just been told, when I rang them that another report will be sent (not even sent yet) asking me to fill out more forms. Given the postal strike and the fact its Christmas this is not likely to be resolved until the New Year!!!
From where I am sat it would appear that Portafina appears to delay the process just so that further funds can be deducted which I shall raise with the FCA one I eventually get this resolved. The stock answer when calling to get an update seems to be "It is being dealt with". Cannot see that from where I am sat!!

ONCE AGAIN WE HAVE THE SAME EXCUSE WHEN TRYING TO DRAW MONEY OUT ,THEY SAY THEY ARE OVER BURDENED AND THEN USE THE EXCUSE OF THE POSTAL SYSTEM STATING THAT THEY SENT A LETTER OVER A WEEK AGO,UTER LIES THATS ALL YOU GET FROM THEM YOU SAY YOU DO NOT WANT TO SPEAK TO A FINACIAL ADVISER BUT WHAT DO THEY DO HOLD THE SYSTEM UP AGAIN FOR A WEEK FOR HIM TO TELL YOU SOMETHING THAT YOU DONT WANT , HAVING TOLD THEM THAT THERE IS A CHANCE THAT I MIGHT BE NOT ALIVE THIS TIME NEXT YEAR DUE TO ILLNES THEY STILL RAMBLE ON , IN THIS DAY AND AGE IT SHOULD ALL BE DIDGITAL THEY JUST WANT TO OLD ON TO YOUR MONEY AS LONG AS POSSIBLE TO PAY FOR THE EXPENSIVE CARS THEY DRIVE

You have to beg for your money
You have to beg and jump through hoops to get any of your money.
My husband applied 14/07/2022 for part tax free pension it is now 02/12/2022 and we are still filling in forms.
We provided all the information required and verified who my husband was when he set up his pension fund with this company. Now he wants to take money out he has to verify who he is and has to provide as recent bank statement with his name and address etc again. The money will be transferred to the same bank account they are paid from every month??
To speak to a manager you have to give them up to 72hrs before they phone you back.
I appreciate all companies have regulations they have to abide by but when they leave you with no income, owing money left right and centre, it is pathetic.
I have now involved the Ombudsman who will act on our behalf and if needs be we will involve a solicitor just to get money that they are holding. They are not refusing to pay out but make it extremely difficult to do so.
I would not recommend this company EVER!

Unfortunately there is not a minus star…
Unfortunately there is not a minus star or I would certainly be putting a minus in. I called this company today to find that they now have NO reference of me on their system. Some 10 years ago I signed up with a company called (Porta) or something like that. I invested £12.500 with them. All of a sudden my funds were down to £9.000 and after waiting for months to get a call interview. I was given a load of B......t. the a few months later. I received a letter saying that that company had closed but another named company were looking after me. Then a further closedown (or name change) and then down to £4500I had portifina who stated they were looking after my account. All along thus journey something did not seem correct. Anyway. I used to book callbacks to get an updates on my account which had been miss handled but was still with NOVIA. I was informed that their solicitors were looking into getting everyone's money back. Today I called Portafina and was told I was not on their system??? So I called NOVA. to be told that the money that was left was in closed accounts so there was no draw down. Which in turn. Means I lost all my investments. Luckily I do have most of the paperwork from day one. And now going to spend my up and coming retirement chasing and notifying social media of my journey and what I am doing for any other person who is going through this issue. As I'm sure there will be a lot of people.

Now waiting 4 months on funds release, about to lose a property on the back of this delay. Phoned about 30 times during this and never spoken to same person twice! Huge fee for pathetic service.
Received lots of nice headed letters, mind.

I would highly recommend Portafina who have managed to unlock my 'Defined Benefit Pension" from a former Nationalised Industry (Shipbuilding) that was Privatised in the 1980's.
I had always assumed it was locked until full retirement age with a very small monthly payment forecast and pretty much given up on it, so gave them a ring when I reached 55 and they couldn't be more helpful and assured me it could be transferred and then accessed which I now have.
They kept me informed throughout the process that has taken 6 months with every form followed up on, any advice I needed they were always helpful to advise with several checks along the way as per Government guidelines with every option always being made aware to me.
I couldn't be happier with the result to unlock my pension at age 55 and take a full cash lump sum.

Plagued by letters from Portafina who…
Plagued by letters from Portafina who falsely indicate a five star trustpilot review score on their marketing material.
The "guidance" is clearly targeting fee-generation for unwanted, unneeded services.
It says on their letter "...the sooner you return this form the better"
The material has no reference to where they got my name and home address., and I've written to be removed. Amusingly their OWN auto-reply says
"Thank you for getting in touch.
We have received your email, and one of our pension experts will get back to you as soon as possible. We check this inbox regularly and aim to reply within 2 to 3 working days.
Best wishes,
The Portafina Team"
Dear Portafina, the sooner you remove me from your system, the better!
It's MY Money, I can spend it however I like. It certainly won't be wasted on Portafina fees.
Shambolic
Plagued with unsolicited letters about pensions never bothered to find out that recipient my father had died ,maybe if you stopped buying data lists from REaD and cared about the customer more rather than the bottom line
