Our experience with Private Midwives was exceptional from beginning to end. Julia was incredible and made us feel at ease, fully prepared and supported throughout which made us both feel so confident for the birth itself. We can’t imagine our birth experience without her and will 100% be coming back for our 2nd!

I had the most amazing, magical, breathtaking experience giving birth at home and working with private midwives was the best decision I have ever made. Sounds very cheesy but it was definitely the best day of my life!

Emma Lawless is what we called “an angel that fell out of heaven”. Her care, love, support, knowledge and wisdom, and professionalism were all perfect to a t. The balance was perfect and she genuinely felt like part of my family by the end of our journey, I was devastated to be discharged!

She is a true advocate for her mums and I felt safe throughout the whole process. If I had to be able to sum up what I wanted from my birth in one word, it would have been “Safe” and that is what Emma allowed for me to have. She let me have autonomy and only intervened when she needed to. She listened to all of my wishes and made sure I was able to have the birth I dreamed of whilst delivering my baby safely. First thing I felt was that I could do this all over again!

Her team Julia and Safiya were also invaluable additions to my experience and they all worked so well together.

Emma did not make me feel like she was at work in any of my visits pre and postnatally and I honestly felt like I was the only mum she was caring for. I have recommended her to every single one of my friends and family who are pregnant or having babies soon, hoping my story would be enough to persuade them to have a home birth!

There aren’t enough words to give Emma the credit that she’s due, but if we had more midwives like her, women would have so many more positive stories to tell. And I know that had things not have gone to plan, I would have been in the best hands no matter what the outcome.

Julia made this experience such a positive one and as a first time mum she was such a calming presence. From the initial meeting until the last the entire team was responsive and professional. Our midwife, Emma, was truly incredible. One of the most dedicated and compassionate midwives (or any medical practitioner for that matter!) you'll ever meet.

During our first interaction, Emma instantly put me at ease - such a warm and friendly disposition. This was particularly important as we had experienced a traumatic birth and miscarriage with previous pregnancies. Due to our own personal experiences, we felt private healthcare was the way forward and to be under the care of someone empathetic whilst I navigated my anxiety.

Our journey together started in early pregnancy. Emma was by our side from then on. The continuity of care we received from Emma had such a positive impact on how we navigated each step. I really looked forward to my antenatal home visits, always enjoyed our chats and the voice messages Emma would send. Her positive encouragement never waivered; she helped instil a level of self-belief and confidence in me that I will always be grateful for. We built a wonderful relationship of trust. Ultimately leading to what was a beautiful home birth with my husband and Emma by my side. We welcomed into the world our healthy beautiful baby daughter.

The weeks of postnatal care received from Emma were incredibly reassuring and supportive too.

Our journey has been healing and empowering and a big part of that is thanks to Emma. Although now discharged from her care, she will always be part of our family and we still keep in touch. Thank you!

Julia M was our amazing midwife who supported me before birth and postnatally. Prior to signing up with private midwives (who were great & super efficient) and meeting Julia, I was nervous about giving birth and the early stages motherhood. Having Julia's support completely changed this for me.

During my antenatal appointments we prepared in advance as much as we could and worked on techniques to help me with my worries. This was a massive help and comfort to me when the day of my c section arrived. Julia was always on hand to answer any questions and I felt so well supported and prepared throughout which gave me real confidence going into the birth.
Julia then supported us for 4 weeks postnatally which made a huge difference to the start of our parenting journey. My baby was unable to latch before we came home and as soon as Julia came round she supported us in making this happen and getting us support for her tongue tie, which transformed our breastfeeding journey. Having continuity of care, knowing that Julia was always there for us and having our regular appointments with her was amazing and we really loved each meeting and how positive we would feel afterwards. As first time parents it was really reassuring to have more regular check ins and it really helped build our confidence and gave us an amazing start in our parenthood journey. Thank you so much Julia & private midwives would highly recommend!

Having heard how understaffed, busy and rushed public midwifery services might get in London nowadays, we have decided to opt for a home birth for more holistic, peaceful and individualised experience, which proved to be the best decision ever!
We were extremely fortunate to have the most amazing, knowledgeable, friendly, kind, caring, supportive, helpful and thorough midwife, Julia Melinek, on our journey, who always had a plan B (or C!!) for everything, in case things do not go our way. The level of care, support and reassurance provided by Julia was simply outstanding, second to none. I knew that my baby and myself were in the safest hands possible at every step of my pregnancy.
Apart of all the amazing qualities Julia has as a person, and being so friendly and easy going, which is imperative to have in order to be such an amazing midwife, she is also incredibly professional.
Julia respected all our customs and beliefs, be it religious or medical. She would provide us with all the information, yet, would not pressure into anything that we would not feel comfortable with. I felt heard and respected throughout the whole time.
Julia was also not intrusive or judgmental at all.
If we had any questions or concerns at any time of the day or night, Julia was always ready to answer through the phone, messages, WhatsApp, or whatever was convenient for us. She never failed to respond straight away!
Postnatal care was absolutely exceptional as well! Julia went above and beyond supporting me and the baby after the birth.
She would always make sure that the timing is convenient for me in order for her to come and see us, or she would very gently check on me over the phone by simply writing a sweet and cheerful message :) Her kindness, compassion and genuine care really shined through!
Julia is very passionate about her job and accepts only the best outcome for mum and the baby, which made me feel very safe, supported and empowered during the actual labour. I would do it all over and over again, and give birth ten more times if I could with such an amazing midwife!!
We also want to extend our deepest gratitude to the whole amazing Private Midwives team, where all the people we came into contact with were simply the best, most kind, caring, friendly and polite ever!! (Trish Nolan-Melfi, Pat, Fiona, Nina)
All in all, I would wholeheartedly recommend Private Midwives to anyone, and would go for it again myself without thinking twice!

Julia supported me before and after the birth of my baby boy. She helped me with the birth plan, and her support and expertise during the first month was very helpful for myself and the baby especially me being first time mama. The only thing i regret, not booking the service for the actual birth. Thank you for your kindness and attentiveness.

I recently had the incredible experience of giving birth at home, supported by Julia Melinek, an absolutely amazing midwife. From the moment she arrived, Julia provided unwavering support and made me feel completely at ease. She truly listened to all my needs, respecting my birth plan while also offering expert advice and guidance when needed. I was worried about a second degree tear with my first baby and we were able to avoid this again with my second with Julia's support.

Throughout the entire process, Julia was calm, confident, and compassionate, creating a peaceful and empowering environment for the birth. She anticipated what I needed without me even having to ask, and her encouragement helped me feel strong and capable during every moment. Her professionalism was impeccable, but it was her warmth and genuine care that made the experience so special.

Julia went above and beyond to ensure that both my baby and I were safe, comfortable, and well cared for. I couldn’t have asked for a better person to guide me through this life-changing moment. If you’re looking for a midwife who will offer exceptional service and be with you every step of the way, I cannot recommend Julia highly enough!

We had an amazing homebirth experience with our wonderful midwife Emma Lawless, and midwife Julia. My previous birth experiences were not great and I didn't want to just hope for the best again (having a home birth or access to a birth pool in a birth centre would have been a lottery in our area) so this time we decided to go with Private Midwives. The whole process was very smooth (including the admin, equipment hire, etc). It was great being able to have the appointments with Emma at home, and she was always able to put my mind at ease and answer all the questions, as well as being available over the phone/text between appointments. It was definitely money well spent, not just for my peace of mind but also a bit of an investment in my health (no stitches this time, despite previous episiotomy and 2nd degree tear!) Thank you again to Emma, Julia and all the staff at PM!

Getting the private midwife was the best decision we ever made. My husband and I met Julia (our midwife) a couple weeks before I was due and as I was late, she was very reassuring and supportive, helping me to relax and calm down. After the delivery I saw Julia once (sometimes twice a week) and this was the best service for all of us - since we were first time parents we had a lot of questions and uncertainties, but Julia was very supportive and provided us with all the required information. It never felt like we have a medical specialist, but rather a family member who was experienced and knowledgeable and was happy to check on us to ensure we are all healthy and happy.

I had an amazing home water birth experience thanks to the support, care and knowledge of Julia. She believed and trusted we can make my birth plan possible and we did! <3

We booked Julia for ante/postnatal care after recommendation from a friend and it was absolutely the best decision we’ve made. Julia prepared us so well before the labour and guided us every step of the process. Even though our baby arrived two weeks early, we felt confident and educated with our options which would have been difficult had we not had Julia’s support. Julia is empathetic and professional and we would highly recommend her. Private Midwives was also great at communicating and organising other supports for us including arranging substitutes when Julia wasn’t available and connecting us with a tongue tie specialist.

I am extremely happy and grateful to have had the opportunity to have Julia as my midwife for my first pregnancy. She saw to all my prenatal appointments from 32 weeks and she always spent quality time with us. She would help me practice hypnobirthing, and having the appointments at home was so relaxing and nice. She really getting to know my partner and I, and our birth preferences. I had read how important continuity of care was during pregnancy and I can now say it was invaluable for me.

Having Julia there to support my labour and birth made such a difference. I had complete trust in her and was able to switch off everything else. She regularly called the hospital to update them on my arrival and make sure there was a room waiting for me in the midwife centre. She then helped decide when was the right time to go to the hospital (I definitely would have gone too soon and been turned around if I followed the contraction timing apps I was using!)

At hospital she worked seamlessly with the NHS team and I had a lot of comfort having her there to communicate my preferences and it meant my partner could focus on being there for me rather than liaising with medical staff.

Overall, the outcome was a wonderful birth for my first child and I couldn't be happier with how everything turned out!

We then had combined care from Julia and Fiona post birth and both were fantastic!

Finally, a shout out to Pat for being extremely helpful on the accounts side of things and helping to design the perfect package for me!

Highly recommend the services of Private Midwives for anyone who is pregnant and has the means. We will definitely be requesting Julia to be our midwife again if/when we are ready for a second baby!

Julia Melinek is a very knowledgeable professional, beautiful person, and the best choice we made when we chose her to guide us through our labour, and the time before and after.

As the due date was approaching I found to be very stressed only by the thought of the labour and felt I had little to no control which panicked me. My husband then found Private Midwives and through them Julia. From the first introductory call we had with her experience was clear as she had years of experience as a registered midwife. Beyond that she also understood the emotions I was going through and was able to guide us through them.

We had a few appointments ahead of labour where we discussed the birth plan, she explained thoroughly everything and also did some hypnobirthing among other things which was very calming and helpful.

Julia was available 24/7 to ease any stress I had and answer any questions. When my labour started Julia was there to guide me through it and took me to the hospital when the time was right. There her expertise helped us at each stage, from going through triage to making the right choices , having an advocate , and feeling we had control over and understood each stage (both me and my husband).

Julia has made what I anticipated to be a stressful and difficult time (my labour), a beautiful journey that I enjoyed!

After the birth, we met again and she helped me with breastfeeding , offered me some tips and encouragement that is so much needed!

I’ve had an amazing experience with the private midwives. I saw Emma for my antenatal appointments at home. She’s so friendly and puts you at ease, it was like having a friend over for a cup of tea. Emma, alongside Julia, supported me at home during my water birth and it was everything I could have wished for. Julia was very calming and helped create a peaceful birth environment. Both Emma and Julia came to see me at home postnatally which was such nice continuity. Thanks again to both, we are so happy with the service.

We had the pleasure of having Julia as our midwife from 34th week until the birth of our daughter. She was prompt in responding to all our queries, always available to alleviate any concerns we had. Her thorough research and evidence-based practice meant that we were making well-informed decisions every step of the way. Julia's balanced advice made us feel comfortable and safe, knowing that my and our baby's health were in capable hands. Julia also used hypnotherapy to ease our anxieties, equipping us with a positive mindset going into childbirth. It made the process feel much more manageable and less daunting. Her professionalism, coupled with her caring and empathetic nature, made our birthing experience a positive one.
