Beans that will change your menu!

Rancho Gordo has an amazing selection of gorgeous, delicious heirloom dried beans. These are not your everyday grocery store beans, that might have been sitting on the shelf for a couple of years. Their beans are selected to provide a wide variety of high quality beans, for use in all kinds of recipes. The beans are all of recent harvest, reducing the cook time since they are fresher. There are good descriptions for the different beans on the website, to help you navigate your selection of beans for the types of recipes you prefer. The website also provides a lot of recipes, and there are “fan club” groups on social media, so customers can share ideas for dishes and cooking advice. I have found the beans to be so fresh that I save a few out of the packages to plant in my vegetable garden, with a very high germination rate. The cost per pound are more than grocery store dried beans, but come out to be about the same as buying canned beans - with much better flavor and texture. For our vegetarian family, dried beans are an everyday ingredient in our daily meals. Rancho Gordo beans make what many consider to be a mundane food into an exciting cooking and eating experience.

BEST source for dried beans and pulses!!

Best source for dried beans and pulses!! Their dry beans are "fresh", requiring much shorter soaking and cooking times. They carry a few dozen different varieties of heirloom beans, including those important to Mexican culture. RG works respectfully with indigenous groups to help them preserve and grow their beans, providing them fair income and control over the commodities of their heritage.

Lots of new beans to try

Lots of new beans to try. Website has lots of recipes and ideas. Beans are high quality, more expensive than grocery store beans but not the most expensive heirloom beans.

Rancho Gordo is my bean provider of choice.

I’ve been buying heirloom beans from Rancho Gordo for ten years, and I could not be happier. Their incredible selection (48 varieties at last count), customer service with a very personal touch, and the freshness of the beans make them my go-to. Steve Sando, the founder and proprietor, is recognized as one of the foremost experts on all things heirloom bean-related. (Some refer to him as a member of the “Leguminati.”) I trust both his expertise and his integrity 100% and I’ll continue to buy the best beans I’ve ever eaten from RG.
