Quality quartz, communication and plan reading lacking
Shabaz and Reading worktops were recommended to me by a kitchen designer friend. He sent them pictures, detailed plans of what we were doing for our new kitchen and utility. The initial contact was directly from the Kitchen designer and my contact details were provided.
We had to chase to see when they were coming to template. They came and templated the kitchen and utility then provided an updated quote because of an extra. I still had no direct contact with them except for an email to say pay this partial invoice. I found out via the kitchen designer, no stone would be ordered until that was paid. Fair, but some actual communication from themselves directly to the client (myself) would have been appreciated.
Now, they had pictures, plans and templates for all the work required. I finally get a phone call from Shabaz and only after the kitchen designer had told him to contact me directly, that they hadn't allowed for the utility in the quote. Obviously unable to view pictures, read a plan or even his own mans template. They wanted more money for their mistake.
I told them no, just fit what they had, I'll find someone competent to do the rest.
What they fitted was largely good. There was a language barrier with the fitters and took a phone call for someone to translate what I wanted. Just the edges buffed up some more because they looked a little dull. It was pointed out to me after they left that the worktops didn't have the same overhang over the cabinets, 23mm in one place, 21mm, 18mm, 25mm and 28mm in others. The shape of the kitchen was a corner and long lengths. The join really just needed to be angled more so the two long lengths could be matched in the overhang.
The quality of the quartz is amazing so cannot knock the actual work surface at all.
Its the lack of the communication, inability to read drawings/templates that soured the process for me/
