I booked this through Boots, which I'd always thought a respected and trustworthy UK brand. I was forced to pay for the tests up front before I could book a place and date, but I proceeded as I tr... See more

Such a stress
Such a stress! As all the other reviewers have pointed out, the instructions are wrong. You have to use a phone to capture the QR code on the test (the plastic strip that has the C, T and S letters on it) - then you have to upload a photo of the test result manually on a desktop/laptop computer - preferably on a Chrome browser.
Hopeless
Yep, same issue as many others here. Couldn't get past the stage where you 'activate/register' the test so was never able to upload a photo of the result. Have spent an hour on it. Not going to waste any more time trying.
Poor instructions.
Same problem as everyone else - instructions are useless. Many thanks to those who posted about QR codes for entry into barcode field when activating kit. Dunno why boots can just add this info on-line if it's too hard to update instructions in kit. Very poor.
Totally rubbish software
Taking our money and providing the code required for the UK Passenger Locator form and also delivery of the kits were all well handled..
The process for reporting results back to RECOVA was absolutely ABYSMAL. Clearly no one had tested the instructions which are erroneous. Total waste of time and energy.
Shame on you BOOTS.
USELESS!
Follwed all the instructions and then tried to upload photo of test but there is no way of doing this! Boots, this is a DISGRACE!
I'd give it a 0 if I could
I'd give it a 0 if I could. Just really adding to the evidence of the inaccessibility of this system. Got to the portal, registered then QR code on test doing nothing. I got a bunch of text but have nowhere to put it on my phone or computer to register it. Cannot get the portal to upload anything at all. Possibly the worst planned process I have ever had the misfortune to try and do. A whole bunch of time I'm not getting back.
Don't bother.
Ordered a Day 2 Lateral Flow test which arrived quickly, but that's all the good that can be said about this service. I took my test and, following the instructions, went to scan the barcode on the test tube... Only the barcode doesn't actually exist! Apparently it wants the QR code on the plastic strip, but I didn't know that because it turns out submitting the code simply doesn't work on Firefox for Android and I received an error message for everything I scanned. I was finally able to submit the results using Chrome having read other reviews here... Of course it is still the case that calling Boots is an utter waste of time as nobody ever answers the damn phone! I was on hold for 45 minutes before they cut me off and that wasn't the first time I tried to call. Don't waste your time.
Shame on you Boots
This is absolutely terrible. The Day 2 lateral test process simply does not work. On our kits we did not receive a test kit to obtain results - just a test tube and swab, the idea being to return the sample by post. We were expecting a test cassette so that we could see if negative or positive straightaway. Furthermore on registering the test on the website the barcode on the test tube does not scan and manual entry also not accepted. Spent ages on customer services line - no response. What to do??? Will take home tests for own peace of mind, but will Boots pay the fine if we get charged???? Absolute shambles.WHY are the gov. Recommending this orovider and why have Boots not yet resolved??? I follow all guidelines and rules and don't like not being compliant. This is super stressful. Shame on you Boots.
After sign in there is nowhere to…
After sign in there is nowhere to upload the photo of the test or to put in a code as others have said. Have no idea what to do. TERRIBLE. DO NOT USE.
Terrible instructions
How difficult is to just write the correct instructions to the users?
Rooky mistake, made the a very simple test to become very stressful.
The QR code that you need to scan to upload the photos is the QR code on the plastic strip, not the one on the paper.
Appalling
Appalling. Only adding a review in the hopes that it will help other users to know that Chrome worked a lot better for me than Safari. As others have said, the 'barcode on the sample tube' is actually the 'QR code on the test strip'.
Absolute pants
Absolute pants. Taken 1.5 hours to record our hopefully negative results. Thank god for the people who discovered the non existent ‘bar code’. So stressful, almost as bad as the purchase. Why was it so difficult to do the right thing.
1 star is even too much
1 star is even too much. The software is a total disaster and caused no end of stress trying to upload the tests for a family of 3.
Can't upload results
Can't upload results, horrendous and no contact details to email anyone!
AWFUL!
AWFUL!!
Just as others have mentioned the instructions are deeply unhelpful. I have copied and pasted the comment/instruction from an equally frustrated reviewer who had the patience to persevere and figure it out....Have followed their instructions with success....just awaiting the result now (let's see what happens).
Anyway following the reviews here we have managed to register and activate.
You’ll need a phone/camera and a computer.
Do the registering on the computer and take the photos of the test on your phone, then e mail to your computer so you can upload from there.
You need to scan the QR code on the white plastic test strip and that takes you to a website that gives you a long serial like this“COV1070078HUGHESAG00009416” , copy and paste this into the two boxes where they ask you to scan the barcode.
We took photos of the test strip on the scrappy bit of paper and e mailed them to ourselves so we could upload them via our computer.
All we need to do now is wait for a result. I’m sure they will respond 😂
Just awful
It's all been said in the other comments.
Booking portal was extremely flaky, had to circle round several times per family member.
No one seems to have performed even rudimentary validation of the test activation instructions on the website. I would not have been able to activate my tests to find the "bar code" without finding correct instructions on this site. I got there in the end, but this demonstrates a dreadful lack of QA by Boots/Recova.

If I could give a negative score I would. Utterly useless service. Couldn't upload a photo as the Portal was inactive.....as everyone else found. Waste of money... but needed a code for Passenger Locator Form. Total con.....
Worst portal
I would give it zero star if I can! Worst portal! Activate button won't work and support line is not working. Just terrible terrible service. DO NOT USE! read below and seems like to some people scanning the QR CODE works but still haven't work for me.
Disgusting to think that Boot an…
It is disgusting to think that Boot an organisation that should be competent in the provision of their services, should allow this terrible non function test service to continue to be available. The portal is 100% inoperative , with not help available from Boots help line. A 100% waste of money and time , which will allow Boots to make a profit as they have my payment, with no refund option! Terrible experience
Dreadful experience
Dreadful experience. I simply could NOT get my phone to photograph and upload the QR code on the plastic test cassette to my phone. Incidentally, this code is wrongly described as a barcode when in fact it is a QR code. In the end, thanks to instructions on this website, I photographed the QR code on the test cassette and entered it manually into the two sections where I should have been able to upload the QR code. I then uploaded the photograph of my test, but so far have received no confirmation that they have my result, so I have taken a photo of the last page, showing the Booking Reference and the Order No. Utterly dispiriting - I have spent an anxious hour trying to comply with government regulations. This is a shockingly bad service and I certainly will not use the Boots Covid test again.
