Don't waste your money with Redbook

Get an independent mechanic to conduct your pre-purchase inspection, one who has pride in their business and offers proper customer service. Redbook is such a large company; they do the bare minimum and don’t care.

While I understand that a five-year-old car will naturally have general wear and tear, such as minor scratches etc., there were several significant defects missing from the report. The inspection missed a large chip in the windscreen, located directly in the driver’s field of view, a very loud, constant rattle at high speed, four significant dents, a broken air vent, a broken console, and a damaged badge.

I contacted Redbook with my feedback and they pretty much said tough cookies, denied the chip in the windscreen and said they couldn’t see any dents because it was raining. They referred me to the “photographic evidence of the vehicle’s condition”, however the images they send are low resolution so it’s not possible to see details. THAT is why you pay for an inspection! I could have asked the dealer to send me pictures.

I’ve had a pre-purchase inspection from an independent mechanic before, and they recorded every detail and defect. I would have thought Redbook would do the same purely for due diligence. As an interstate buyer, I relied on Redbook’s inspection to decide whether to travel from Melbourne to Sydney to view the car in person (which I did). What a waste of my time and money.

Under the report section marked "Exterior" in the subheading "Windscreen" it very clearly shows no chip in the front windshield at the time of inspection in the location shown in the image you have sent to our aftersales team.

As the inspection is a condition report of the vehicle at time of inspection the report did not misrepresent its condition at the time.

Didn’t receive follow up call

Didn’t receive follow up call. Many items not able to be checked. Ridiculous price for a service. Never buy the ultimate package is a waste of money,

Thorough, Excellent Service

The mechanic (Owen, Perth WA) was extremely knowledgeable, thorough and was transparent on potential issues, or issues he would not be able to isolate as it is a remove service. I felt taken care for. Report also included 180 photos detailing the car, I was very impressed.

Well worth the cost

While I initially thought that this was an expensive service, the value for money was fantastic and worthwhile. A very detailed and thorough report was received minutes after the inspection was completed. Lots of supporting pictures to provide confidence, and the follow-up phone call was really valued as it provided an additional opportunity to get peace of mind. Thank you to Mohammed- What a fantastic service!

Exceptional personal service

The report and the photos I received were extremely thorough. But the best part was the phone call from the mechanic who inspected. He talked me through the report, answered all my questions and gave me some important points to consider. Very friendly, patient, and genuinely seemed interested in best outcome for me. In the end I did not purchase the car, and feel it was the right call in terms of safety and long term costs.
