AVOID AT ALL COSTS

Avoid this company at all costs.

My experience with CB Car Hire / Add Car Malta was completely unacceptable and involved multiple serious charging issues.

First, they took a €3,000 “security deposit” as an actual sale transaction, not a pre-authorisation. That is an extraordinary mistake for any car hire company to make. The car was returned on 4 April 2026, with no damage, yet they continued holding my money and only admitted later that they had processed it incorrectly.

Second, they also took additional fuel charges directly from my account, and fuel appears to have been charged twice. Instead of handling matters properly against the deposit they were already holding, they simply continued debiting my account. This created even more stress and confusion and took repeated emails before they even started to properly investigate it.

Third, I paid an out-of-hours return fee for a service that was not provided. When I returned the vehicle, no one was there. The office was locked, there was no visible staff member in the Add Car area, and there was no activity around us. I also have video evidence showing there was no staff presence at the time. They later tried to justify the fee by referring to airport rules and pre-registration, but this explanation holds no weight. This was a public car park with 24/7 access, so the suggestion that this somehow justified charging for an attended out-of-hours service that never actually took place is not credible. The vehicle was only checked in 2 hours and 53 minutes later, which says everything.

What makes this even worse is the amount of time and effort required to get clear answers. Instead of dealing with the issues properly from the start, I had to chase repeatedly, challenge contradictory explanations, and push them to even acknowledge obvious mistakes.

The main failures were:

€3,000 deposit wrongly taken as a sale
Additional fuel charges taken from my account
Fuel charged twice
Out-of-hours fee charged for a service not actually provided
Excuses that do not stand up to scrutiny
Poor communication and repeated delays
No meaningful goodwill or compensation despite major errors

This is not a small administrative slip. These are serious payment and service failures. I would strongly advise anyone renting from this company to check their card statements very carefully and think twice before booking.

I've Used Add car several times with no…

I've Used Add car several times with no problems they have always been waiting at office ready for my arrival and been very helpful and reminding me to check car for damages incase they missed something previously, the bad reviews I have seen on here on seem to reflect people not reading the standard terms and conditions that are same as many rental companies I rent from regularly!
Thankyou add car I will be using yourselves again this February!

Do not rent from this company

Do not rent from this company! It's a scam. They pull you in with the low price, but will try to find some way to reduce your credit card deposit refund. I rented in Malta for 7 days. Cost me about $10/day. The car had scratches, chipped paint, stained seats, damaged door panel and it was dirty. Upon my return they claimed there was new damage. There was a smudge on the fender so small that I didn't even notice it when I took possession. They are charging 400+ Euros to my credit card. They even threatened to charge me more if I didn't sign documents admitting that I damaged the car. What an absolute scam!!! Stay away!!!

We rented a car four weeks ago and had to pay a €3,300 deposit, which is unusual worldwide. After filling up the tank, we returned the car. During the inspection, the car indicated the tank wasn't completely full, even though it had been just minutes earlier. This was very strange, and the fuel receipt wasn't sufficient. They then charged me €35. They said they would release the high deposit immediately since the car wasn't damaged. Still, after several emails to which they didn't respond, the deposit hasn't been released. Addcar's staff is very unfriendly, the deposit is very high, the car had dozens of damage, and they're holding on to your very high deposit. Almost a month later, I still haven't received my deposit. I definitely don't recommend this company.

Unprofessional and Dishonest – Stay Away!

I strongly advise against using this car rental company!
I am extremely dissatisfied with the service and the entire rental experience. After returning the car, I was charged €300 for a tiny dot on the door, which could have easily been there before and had absolutely no impact on the technical condition of the vehicle.

The staff were rude, unhelpful, and downright disrespectful. My phone interaction with the so-called manager was also very disappointing – completely unprofessional with no willingness to explain the situation.

I have the impression that they extort money from customers, counting on people not going through the hassle of disputing small amounts. I feel scammed and want to warn others – stay away from this company! Make sure to document the car’s condition thoroughly with photos when picking it up and returning it.

Also, I recommend getting full insurance from another provider, because with this company, that option is not available.

SCAMMERS

BEWARE, they are scammers!! They find all the ways to make you pay on delivery. DO NOT rent the car with license plate BQZ956 because at the beginning of the rental they take perpendicular photos of the bodywork that do not highlight a small recess, while on delivery with a side light they show it to you and say that you made it yourself and they charge you 200 euros.

Stay Away – ADDCAR Withdrew Money Without Authorization

My friend had an extremely negative experience with ADDCAR rental that I feel compelled to share. Without any authorization or approval, ADDCAR after 20 days illegally withdrew €135 from my friend's bank account - without any notification, explanation, or authorization — despite the fact that the entire rental amount had already been fully paid.
We were shocked to discover this unauthorized transaction. No explanation was given, no receipt, and certainly no permission. Even more disturbing is the question of how ADDCAR gained access to banking details or PIN numbers, which should be strictly confidential. This raises serious concerns about data security and possible fraud.
We have already reported this issue to the bank and informed all relevant parties. Unless this money is returned immediately, we are prepared to take legal action against ADDCAR for unauthorized charges and potential misuse of personal data.
I strongly advise others to stay away from this company. There are plenty of reputable rental services out there — ADDCAR is not one of them.

If I was able to put a minus on this…

If I was able to put a minus on this review I would. Recommended by lastminute.com I would never use this company again. Shocking service. Paid extra to upgrade via lastminute.com to then be told when I picked the car up at the airport I had to pay an additional amount of 95 euros for insurance. When I then confronted them, they said it was to reduce the excess from 1400 euros to 400 euros. Never explained fully at the desk and I felt forced/hands tied as I'd paid lastminute.com £96 to hire the for 5 days. When confronting the manager Randolph, was given a response of we didn't force you and explained it fully. I said if you'd explained it fully and clearly, then why would I query or ask what the extra monetary was for. And refused to take any responsibility or genuine concern. Said you knew what you were doing, and refused to pay any money back so now I have paid double for a weeks car hire and neither lastminute or Add car want to take any responsibility. Quite shocking service from both companies!

Extra taxes that you don t know

After I returned to the country, I had to wait almost a month for them to unlock the 400-euro deposit, they told us that the money will come instant and now I wake up to find that they’ve withdrawn 70 euros from my card, and I have absolutely no idea why.

Hired a car from here

Hired a car from here, when we picked it up had a low tyre we asked them they pumped it knowing it was flat. Next morning flat tyre. I contacted add car from the airport. I asked to help us as we’re in the air BnB with a flat tyre and for the inconvenience maybe provide us an upgrade. The agents simple reply was very rude and told me sarcastically to just return the car and rent from somewhere else.
This is absolutely shocking behaviour to treat a customer who simply asking for a little upgrade because of the inconvenience.

Hidden Charges Galore From These Scammers

This company knows how to scam people. I book a car with them for 10 days over the Christmas period and paid additional insurance cover through RentalCover.com.

When I went to collect the car from Malta airport I was told that I would have to pay additional insurance of é127.56, damage excess of é140 a delivery & collection fee of é35 and a location fee of é10 plus a deposit of é400.

Considering I had to go and pick up the car and drop it back off at the car park, I don't know how they could charge a delivery and collection fee as they didn't deliver the car or collected it from me.

The additional insurance was a scam as I had already paid for this when booking the car initially.

I wasn't surprised when I met another couple at the airport who told me that they had the same unfortunate experience.

DO NOT USE THIS COMPANY! It's a pity Trustpilot do not allow zero stars.

No deposit refund!

I have been back from my trip for 3 weeks now and I still haven't gotten my 400€ deposit back! --- Hidden costs (we had to pay extra 115 euros to pay the deposit by debit card, and they wouldn't accept my colleague's visa card).

Do not recommend.

The worst company ever

There are thieves working in the company. During the return of the car while cleaning it, someone stole pants worth 100euro. Unfortunately, we received a fine of 23euro. The company charges hidden additional fees of almost 100euro. I completely do not recommend.

After reviewing your rental agreement, We want to clarify that our Customer Service team has already explained the administration fee related to the contravention incurred during your rental period. There are no hidden fees; everything is clearly outlined in the rental agreement. The total for the contravention and administration fee was approximately 55 EUR, which has been deducted from your security deposit, not 100 EUR.

Regarding the "pants worth 100 euros," our fleet team and staff have conducted a thorough search, but unfortunately, we were unable to locate them.

Incredibly bad experience

Incredibly bad experience. We had an accident, luckily no one was hurt. The whole communication since then was a terrible disaster. For months they refused to give me any information about the case resolution, didnt give me any final invoice, used swearing language, saying things like "How can I remember all the customers who had accident with our cars :`(", they were lying about GDPR (saying they can't give me the name of the insurance company because of GDPR), accusing me that I know that the same as they do, making all kinds of excusses that didnt even make sense and trying to make me feel guilty as much possible, so that I would feel intimidated and stopped. After months they completely forgot about it and didnt care at all. Finally I made them to write an email to an insurance company, which simply replied with their statement (if it was the real insurance company at all, because they never give anything to check their claims). All it took was one email. Then they finally sent an invoice, claiming they already sent it, but they dont know when they sent it..., because they "have too much work". Only obstacles in an already stressfull situation.

EDIT: Based on the reply to this review, I contacted rentacarmalta.eu. Weeks later, they are still not able to send me invoices from the repairs to support the whole excess deduction.

Good little Runner !

The vehicle provided was of good quality and in good order. The only issue was that the previous customer (?) was a cigarette smoker which caused the interior to smell. Other than that, the service provided was efficient and courteous
