Oris watch transformed

I didn't realise how much I'd neglected my 28 year old Oris - no wonder it wasn't working and sat unused in a drawer!
Jonathan laughed with me about it. Then he and his team did a fantastic job to service and repair it.
They charged me a professional fee appropriate for a highly skilled professional job.
Now I'm enjoying wearing my Oris every day.

Go somewhere else

Sent an old watch in 20/1/26 value less than £100. Received quote 1/2/26 for £599 to repair and clean. I replied that I did not wish to go ahead and please return watch. Received invoice 6/2/26 for £29. Further chasers sent 7/2/26 and 10/2/26 requesting payment. Watch returned 16/2/26.
They do not make it clear on their website that they will charge you a fee of £29 to give you a quote for any work.

Steve

Thank you for your Omega Seamaster feedback.

Your Omega is a vintage mechanical Seamaster that had not been worn for approximately 30 years and was not running when received. As detailed in estimate the quotation covered a full vintage mechanical service, balance work , resealing and a 24-month movement guarantee. Servicing costs reflect the specialist labour and time involved in restoring a vintage mechanical movement, rather than simply the resale value of the watch.

Omega Seamaster models in working condition typically trade in the hundreds of pounds, and preserving a vintage mechanical watch properly requires a full service when it has been dormant for decades.

When you chose not to proceed, the £29 administration and assessment charge was applied. This is not simply a “quote fee”. It covers technician inspection time, secure intake processing, documentation, insured handling, packaging materials and fully tracked return postage. This charge is published on our Standard Price List and forms part of the Terms & Conditions agreed during registration.

We do not undertake repairs without consent, and your watch was returned safely once the invoice was settled.

Avoid if you can.

I found this company online and deceided to send my watch collection for servicing and other services. It took them four months to return all my watches and what a dissapointment. Not all instructions had been followed through. Three watches sent back as they could not be repaired that I can accept. The rest sent back with battery change no clean or polish as requested in work order. Two watches needed new straps not done returned with only battery change. Follow up very poor when I contacted the company. DO NOT USE. Avoid.

Hi Adil,

Thank you for taking the time to leave a review. We’re genuinely sorry that your experience has been disappointing.

For clarity for readers, your repair involved a collection of watches in very different conditions and at varying stages of feasibility. One watch (the Raymond Weil W1) was completed as authorised, and several others were assessed and confirmed as not viable to repair, which was discussed and accepted.

Where additional cosmetic work or strap changes were mentioned, some of these were conditional on assessment, availability, and approval rather than confirmed instructions. In one case, we did miss a strap instruction, which we acknowledged and offered to correct on return.

We also provided a free returns label and an open offer to reassess the remaining items in hand and agree a clear, written plan before any further work was carried out. That option remains available.

We never want a customer to feel let down, especially where watches have sentimental value, and we’re always happy to continue resolving matters directly. If you’d like to proceed with the reassessment offered, please reply to our last email and we’ll take it from there.

These clowns again!

After a previous Trustpilot review relating to their service, Repairs By Post replied underneath:

"We are sorry for the issues you had , We have no excuses , but your movement is a complicated mechanical chronograph, we did not get right and kept having issues in other parts... Fortunately, this only happens on occasion."

Despite this admission, they've now got back to me – nearly three years later – threatening legal action unless I remove the review.

This will not be happening. The review is entirely accurate. Plus, of course, they have already admitted they have "no excuses" and "we did not get it right".

I almost feel sorry for them, but thought you might be interested to hear how these people operate.

Matt,

Thank you for your comments.

Your original repair related to a complex mechanical chronograph, which did encounter technical issues during the process. As we stated at the time, we did not meet the standard we aim for on that occasion, and that was acknowledged openly.

Our recent contact was not to dispute your experience, but to address aspects of the review which we believe no longer reflect the full and current position, particularly given the time that has passed and subsequent developments.

We fully respect your right to share your experience. However, where statements may be incomplete or misleading in their current form, we are entitled to request a review is updated to ensure it remains fair and accurate for future readers.

Convenience, cost, quality 5; communication 4.

I have had RbP mend several watches over time and recommend them. The website explains the quotation and posting process clearly; prices are comparable to other horologists but can you find one. The cost is a one off- no contract. Customer loyalty earns a future discount.
Unfortunately, this time there was a very long wait from sending to return-six months. I got in touch and was given an explanation. Fortunately, I could get along without my watches but I was disappointed that RbP didn't take the initiative to let me know what was going on. Hence 4 not 5 stars.
All is well now. My watches are as good as new and despite the delay etc or perhaps because it was explained openly I will continue to use and highly recommend RbP.

Thank you for your kind words and continued trust in us over the years with your watch repairs.

We’re so pleased to hear your watches are now back with you and ticking away beautifully. This recent repair included your [insert brand] watch, and we're delighted you’re happy with the quality of the workmanship. You're absolutely right — finding a reliable horologist isn’t always easy, and we’re proud to be your go-to choice.

We truly appreciate your feedback about the delay and communication. While some complex jobs, especially vintage or branded models, can take longer due to parts or specialist work, we agree we should have updated you proactively. It's something we’re actively improving, and your honest review helps us keep getting better.

Thanks again for your loyalty. Don’t forget — future repairs come with your loyalty discount as a small thank you from us.

Avoid Repairs by Post (RBP) due to lack of transparency

I previously wrote a review about Repairs By Post in November 2021 after a very poor experience. That review was removed by Trustpilot four years later for naming an individual, even though the company had replied at the time without raising any guideline concerns. The delayed flagging meant I could not edit the review, which raises questions about how Trustpilot moderates critical feedback.

Here is my updated account, with names removed:

I arranged to send my watch for repair. Before sending it, I asked about costs and was told there would be a diagnostic fee of £12.95 if I chose not to proceed. After sending the watch, I received a repair quote that was much higher than expected. I declined the repair and asked for my watch back. Instead of the £12.95 diagnostic fee I was quoted, I was invoiced £50. I was told that if I did not pay, the watch could be treated as “abandoned.” I felt I had no choice but to pay.

I cannot comment on the quality of repairs, but based on my experience, I found the company’s communication and pricing practices misleading. I strongly recommend that anyone considering using RBP obtain a written diagnostic quote in advance, specific to their watch model, to avoid unexpected charges.

From reading other reviews, I can see similar complaints. In my opinion, this company does not operate with the transparency I expect, and I would not recommend them.

Dear Reviewer,

Thank you for updating your feedback. The experience you describe dates back to 2021, and the pricing, terms, and communication procedures you refer to are not the ones used by Repairs by Post today. Our service, team structure, and policies have all been updated since that time.

For clarity, we have never applied a £12.95 diagnostic fee to vintage or complex watches. These items require specialist assessment and insured handling, and the charge applicable at that time reflected the work involved. The reference to “abandoned” watches comes from a standard industry clause designed to prevent unclaimed items remaining indefinitely in secure storage; it is not a threat and has never been used inappropriately.

We are sorry that your experience in 2021 did not meet your expectations. However, it is important to note that your account does not reflect our current pricing, transparency measures, or communication standards. We always encourage customers to request written confirmation of expected charges in advance, which is now included in all of our automated communications.

If you would like us to review your original case file so we can provide accurate context based on the information from 2021, we would be happy to do so.

26/10/2025 - I would like to add to this review and change the star rating to reflect the email I have received. I have received a full refund of the payment made £29, along with an email explaining how they have made changes to their Web site making it much clearer on what to expect regarding charges. When I contacted Repairs by Post from the onset I explained the silver pocket watch was of very low value and I didn't want to spend a fortune getting it repaired. I also explained the watch was only worth a value of £40-50. However, after sending it to RBP they then emailed a quote of £299. I declined the quote as it was ridiculous and asked for the watch to be returned. Repairs by Post do not reply to emails when you question why it costs £29 postage to get your watch back!!

Dear Linda,

Thank you for updating your review and acknowledging the refund and improvements we’ve made. We’re glad the matter has been resolved.

To clarify for future readers, the £29 return-handling fee only applies to vintage, antique, or complex watches. Assessing a 100-year-old pocket watch requires considerable time, care, and horological expertise. In your case, the estimate reflected the movement and case repairs required — specialist work that must be carried out by hand and thoroughly tested.

These repairs are priced according to the skill, time, and materials involved, rather than the current disposable market values for non-working models. The return-handling fee simply covers the inspection and insured tracked postage.

We appreciate your feedback, which has helped us make this information clearer for all customers, and we’re pleased your watch was safely returned.

Dreadful customer service

***UPDATED****
*This issue has now been resolved and the (unrepaired) watch returned*

Absolutely dreadful customer service. I sent my fathers watch for a repair quote following a rough estimate online. However the quote, once the watch had arrived, had more than doubled so I rejected the quote and declined the repair. This was on 16th September. I have emailed, sent texts and whatts app messages, added comments to posts on social media and have called and left repeated messages and still no response. They are still in possession of the watch.
Completely unacceptable way to treat customers who trust them with their property

Dear Julie,

Thank you for taking the time to share your feedback. I completely understand how upsetting this situation must have felt and I’m genuinely sorry for the delay and concern it caused. Unfortunately, a combination of technical issues and illness led to slower responses than normal, which is not the level of service we strive to deliver.

I’m pleased to confirm your father’s watch has since been safely returned, and I appreciate your patience throughout. Your comments have helped us identify where improvements were needed, and steps have already been taken to ensure future communication is much smoother.

Thank you again for your honesty and for giving us the opportunity to make things right.

I had a new glass fitted to my Citizen ECO drive, on return it looked all good. I went to use the rotating Bevel six months after and it did not turn. Dear Tim

We are sorry to hear you feel this way about your experience. The glass replacement on your Citizen Eco-Drive was completed without any reported issues at the time and returned in good order. The bezel fault you reported arose over six months later, and while we are always happy to assess such matters, there is no evidence that the issue was caused during the original repair.

As explained, in our immediate response in July when you comntacted us, we were willing to examine the watch to see if the bezel could be repaired, but on a model of this age, original Citizen parts are often no longer available. In such cases, any work needed would be quoted before proceeding so you could decide whether to go ahead.

We always aim to be fair and transparent, and we regret that we were not able to reach a resolution in this case. If you would like us to reassess the watch and explore possible solutions, please feel free to contact us directly.

Kind regards

Great Repair - Small issue with item return

I was really pleased with the repair on my Vivienne Westwood watch — the work was of very high quality and used original parts exactly as I requested.

However, I’d sent my watch in a TAG Heuer travel case to protect it in transit, which wasn’t returned. I was told it hadn’t been logged or retained, which was concerning, as it was clearly not disposable packaging but a personal item of value. You’d expect something like that to be returned without needing to ask. Only after following up was the case sent back to me — though a brief explanation or apology would have been appreciated.

Overall, I’m genuinely very happy with the service — the repair itself was excellent. The watch came back looking and functioning perfectly, and I wouldn’t hesitate to use this company again. It’s just a shame the experience was slightly let down by how my travel case was handled. I’d still recommend them for watch repairs, but I’d suggest clearly requesting the return of any personal items just to be safe.

Thank you for your review and for choosing us to repair your Vivienne Westwood watch.

We’re thrilled you were pleased with the repair itself — our technicians take great care to use original parts and restore each watch to the highest standard, and it’s fantastic to know yours came back looking and working just as it should.

We’re genuinely sorry for the oversight regarding your TAG Heuer travel case. You're absolutely right — items like that should be treated with care, and we understand how frustrating it must have been to follow up for its return. Your feedback is helpful and will be used to tighten our internal procedures around non-watch items that arrive with repairs.

Despite that hiccup, we’re grateful for your recommendation and look forward to welcoming you back again in future.
