Lightweight, foldable E-Bike with a Smooth Ride, highly Recommend

I was really surprised by how light the Carbo e-bike felt when I took it out of the box, the carbon fiber frame makes a big difference, much lighter than I expected. It folds up easily in just seconds, ideal for storing in my apartment without taking up much space. The ride is smooth, with the assist feeling completely natural, like a gentle push rather than any jerking motion. Great purchase overall.

I wasn’t sure what to expect when i…

I wasn’t sure what to expect when i ordered my CARBO, but after riding for the past few months i love it. Solid build high quality bike and that’s from someone who owned 2 ebikes before. Getting components takes slightly longer than i would have liked, but far better than other ebike brands ive experienced. Cant wait to take it out again when our winter is over.

Problems with Carbo bike

In March 2024, we purchased two Carbo bikes.
The computer on one of them was defective and the pedal sensor (or the comunication between pedal sensor and motor) on the other one didn't work. Fortunately, the computer issue was resolved quite quickly, if you disregard the long shipping time from China.
The other bike seems to have a more serious problem. The pedal sensor has now been replaced twice, and there is still no solution to the problem. Instead, we are being accused of not providing professional support in solving the problem. That is unacceptable.
Our suggestions as to what the problem might be and that the simplest solution would be to replace the bike have fallen on deaf ears.
I have now been unable to use the bike for a year and a half and a solution is not in sight.
I want to make it clear that I think the Carbo bike concept is very good when it works.
However, good customer service and positive brand loyalty look different to me.
Let's see if we ever get a bike that works.

I love my Carbo!

Unreliable Bike, Poor Support, and Misleading Sales

I purchased this eBike during a Black Friday sale, believing it was a great deal. In reality, it feels like a scam to lure customers into buying a poorly made product with expensive, hard-to-find replacement parts.

The battery post broke unexpectedly, and while it’s covered under warranty, I had to pay a high shipping fee for the replacement. Even worse, it’s been almost a month since I placed the order, and there’s still no shipping date or tracking information. Repeated attempts to contact customer support have only resulted in excuses and vague responses, leaving me without any clear resolution.

The parts for this bike are so overly customized that even simple components, like a seat post clamp, can’t be found in regular bike stores. Instead, you’re forced to order directly from the company, often at a premium cost and with long shipping times. This lack of accessibility adds to the frustration of owning this bike.

The overall build quality is subpar as well. Key components fail easily, and repairs are both expensive and time-consuming. While the Black Friday sale seemed like a great deal at the time, it’s clear now that it was simply a tactic to offload a problematic product.

Unless there are significant improvements to both the bike’s durability and the company’s customer service, I cannot recommend this eBike.

Regarding custom components, please note that a lot of CARBO's components are standard to ensure it is as user friendly as possible, but to also ensure a premium and unique experience for our riders, some of our components are indeed custom made for CARBO. This is done so that we can make sure our standards for quality are met the way our riders expect. As for the seat post clamp. please note this is a standard component and can usually be purchased via a third party if a rider wishes, but the CARBO clamp itself was still sent to you free of charge without incurring any payment with your battery order.

As for the overall build quality being subpar, I am very sorry to hear that. May you please let us know if you faced any issues with your CARBO? As it shows that in two years, only one issue was reported, that being the battery seat post issue which was resolved under warranty. Please know that the CARBO team is and will always remain available to help out our riders with any issues they might face, as our top priority will always be to ensure our community experiences CARBO in the most satisfactory and premium way possible.

I reviewed many ebikes …

I reviewed many ebikes before making the Carbo purchase and am very pleased with the workmanship and performance. This is my first electric bike, and specifically was looking for the lightest folding model. I did find that getting the bike into the U.S. was not a good experience. Upon receipt the content of the box appeared to have been tampered with and the padding was torn and removed and the accessories were strewn in the bottom of the shipping container. Since there was no local dealer near me, the only option was to ship. Love the bike, but next time I'll definitely go to a dealer.

Bike is unreliable

Bought in April 2022 and ridden on city roads, on a short 20 min commute about twice a week. Not including the free in-warranty repair I have had to buy £549 worth of replacement parts so far. I have had the torque sensor replaced twice, controller once, battery cable once - all of which due to failure of unreliable parts rather than my doing. All the other fixtures on the bike are bad quality and cheap. Front light bracket is soft plastic and broken, a minor scratch on the screen caused it to break, back wheel makes a crunching sound when it turns now. Shipping for new parts is extremely expensive - adding 4 small screws to my order costs an ADDITIONAL £12 in shipping (just put it in the same box!).

1 - didnt say the team didnt help, i said the bike was bad quality
2 - didnt say i paid that, i said that was the price of the items - useful info for someone reading this review. I used discounts and vouchers to make the pain of payment slightly less. Order 1, total $74, order 2 total $253, order 3 total £236. Sorry i was wrong, would cost another buyer $563 to replace the items i have had to.
3 - The torque sensor and controller broke in warranty after 3 months, then after 1.5 years and costs $229 not including shipping. Neither are "minor". If this is normal i will let the reader decide whether this counts as high quality. 2 breaking in less than 2 years sounds bad to me.
4 - didnt buy the screws as i didnt want to pay an extra $15 shipping. dont blame the courier - other online retailers figure out how to put items in the same box and save the customer money. 4 tiny screws with a weight of like 1 gram would have fit in with the other item, its an unnecessary cost. Dont pass the buck

UPDATE - (2 Sep 24) it has been over 2 months since i ordered the latest part that might fix my bike - it has still not come, it has not even been produced by the company yet - my bike has been broken for 4 months now and Carbo has been unable to get it working again..... Review is going from 2 stars down to 1 star.

UPDATE - (24 Sep 24) this is actually getting ridiculous. After producing the part and sending it to me, it has got stuck in customs because Carbo supplied the wrong invoice. Its now 5 months since my bike has been broken.

Going over your history in our system, I see you reported issues with your CARBO only twice. Once in 2022 and the issue was resolved and covered under warranty, and the other one was recent after your warranty had expired. Our team still assisted you, providing a solution, as well as a discount code, a gesture of appreciation despite your warranty having expired.

Regarding the price you paid for replacement parts, our history shows different, may you please let us know if any replacement parts were purchased outside of our portal? Even though we only offer genuine replacement parts through our portal.

If I may elaborate as well on the other issues, please note it is normal for an e-bike to experience minor issues after 2 years of usage, which is what appears to be the case here since for 2 years we had not seen any issues reported. CARBO is still available to help out with any comments or issues you might be facing, and we appreciate your honest and valuable feedback.

Lastly, regarding the shipping costs, please note we only charge what is charged by the carriers, we have no control over the costs ourselves. I also do not see any screws in your latest orders, may you please contact our team and let us know where the issue you faced is so that we can help you out?

This IS the bestest ever bike

This IS the bestest ever bike. I am 68 years old, and so many of my older friends (well, same age as me- 🥴), have been injured by riding very heavy and ‘energetic electric’ bikes, some more than once.

The problem is that with HEAVY electric bikes, they must be ‘energetic’.

My bike is manageable, long lasting, easy to manipulate, and, if for some reason I run out of power, easy-er to pedal.

Not only that, but, bus racks are not a factor. Fold it up and wheel it down the aisle to the seat. Stow it while you ride… don’t let another bus pass you by.

Great Service, Light & A Fabulous EBike

I couldn't be more pleased with my Carbo Model S bike. I bought 2 bikes (for my wife and myself). Before I bought the bikes I had chat conversations with Ali at Carbo and peppered him with a ton of questions. He answered every one of them and gave me clear and honest answers to every question. I was asking for dimensions, specs and other things that I couldn't find on their website and he quickly found me the information. After I bought the bikes, I missed adding a discount they were offering and when I contacted Ali he took care of it and got me the discount. Then while waiting for the bikes to ship I would ask him the status and he would update me where things were at. Ali and Carbo gave me one of the best customer service experiences I have ever had.

Now for the bike. It was super easy to put together. After the first one was assembled, I changed up the order of how they suggested putting it together to make things a bit easier. Overall, this part was a piece of cake to do.

The ride and weight advantages over other EBikes is incredible. I had spent a bit of time on my Brother-in-Laws Lectric bike and found the extra 25 pounds on that bike made it move like an overweight pig. I can pedal my Carbo without any power assist on a flat road at 15-18 mph. The Lectric was impossible to move at any speed without going to their power assist level 2. When you stop pedaling on the Lectric it rapidly slows down - my Carbo coasts like a normal bike when you stop pedaling. The Carbo torque sensor responds quickly and provides power based on your torque demands. The Lectric was all power on or off - nothing inbetween. The Carbo is clearly a much higher quality bike than the Lectric.

The ride is smooth. I have owned other carbon fiber bikes and they really absorb the road well. The combination of the carbon fiber frame and the Schwable tires make for a very comfortable ride. This bike doesn't need any front fork shocks that just add weight.

When my wife and I are riding on the flat trail I use no power assist and typically travel about 15 mph. She can easily keep up with me using the Eco Mode. Now we can ride together without either of us struggling to keep up or slow down. That is one of the best parts.

We bought the upgrade for the throttle, 350 watt motor and the higher capacity battery. Love all those upgrades. Don't be fooled by other EBikes that say "we have a powerful 500 Watt motor" - moving the extra 25 pounds of bike negates any advantages of that larger motor. The 350 Watt motor is plenty powerful and will move you along at fast speeds or up any hill. Couple that with a 9-speed derailleur and you can cover anything the roads throw at you. I couldn't tell you the battery range. That is because the bike is so light and the ride is so similar to a normal bike we often use no power assist or the Eco mode. We only occasionally use the Tour, Sport and Turbo mode to handle the steeper hills.

Folding the bike is super easy and after the first few times you will be able to do it in about 30 seconds. There are no keys, no battery falling out, it has the magnet to keep it in the folded position and no wrestling an overweight pig to fold it. The great thing is with it only weighing in at about 35 pounds you can actually pick it up and put it in the trunk or truck bed without asking your friends to help you.

Big question you might be asking - "Is it worth the extra money to get a bike that is lighter??" I am here to tell you that it is. I am super glad I did and will never look back. Everything about the Carbo bike is top notch - the service, the fit and finish, the quality of frame and components, the ride, and so much more. I highly recommend this bike for anyone looking for an EBike.

Excellent bike

Excellent bike! I got the Model S. So much fun to ride and easy to fold. Customer service is also excellent: the derailleur hanger was damaged in shipping...Carbo sent the replacement hanger asap and paid for my local shop to replace it.
