Advertised on LBC radio, yet doesn’t work.

I heard about this site on LBC radio last night (18/2/2022), and signed up for it this morning.
However, signing back in was problematic. The fact that I have multiple email accounts seemed to baffle this site too.
When I got requests sent off through this site I started to receive a lot of emails from the companies emailed, that I have to send off emails individually to them to cancel or clean my digital footprint.

This is not ideal as right.ly should have done that.

This site has a lot to do and to be honest I am surprised that LBC allowed them on to promote this site which doesn’t work properly.

Hi Andrew, I'm sorry you've run into trouble with your account! It looks like you might have created a number of duplicate accounts that I'd be happy to help get organised if you'd like to get in touch with us via support@right.ly.

Equally, if companies are pushing back on some of your requests, they may be infringing your rights which is not good! We'd love to see the responses you've been getting so we can help you respond and get your data under control :) Feel free to forward your responses to support@right.ly and let's see what we can get sorted!

Hi there,

We're sorry you're not happy with the service, however, neither of those statements are true. Over the last couple of years Rightly has sought to help encourage people to exercise their data rights more efficiently and for free!

It's absolutely true that we've not got everything right during this time but it's hard work disrupting a resistant to change sector! We'll be continuing the hard work and would invite you to try out our new Protect service! I think you'll be pleasantly surprised!

Completely pointless

Completely pointless. Some companies never respond, some say they have no details to delete, and those that do have a loophole and want you to prove who you are by sending them personal information and copies of identification that they 'promise' to delete.

Complete waste of time.

Pointless and more hassle than its worth. They hound companies on your behalf with template emails which no company is interested in from a third party so then you end with ridiculous amounts of emails and have to deal with companies directly because ALL I've dealt with refuse to respond via rightly at all they'll only do it direct. Then because rightly get no response they keep sending emails from you then you get more responses. It's an endless loop of pointless emails which gain you nothing than wasted time. AVOID!! Just approach companies directly as this is not fit for purpose.

Inefficiency gone horribly wrong!

I only wanted to make sure I had changed my address with the electoral office, you did that then offered to change my address at other places I may have forgotten. However, these places all complained that was the wrong way to do it, I would have to email them personally! My inbox was flooded!! With complaints from all those companies you approached! Not good!!

Still had to deal with each company individually so can't see the point of Rightly

I was under the impression that Rightly would do all the work for me - however, every company contacted me direct and I had to provide information back to them directly, so I could have done it all myself anyway. Can't see the point of this company.

Hi Mrs Millard,

Thank you for your review! Rightly offers a free service that helps connect people to lots of businesses at once to request their personal data rather than having to go to each individual website.

For security, businesses will request that you provide ID and verification to them before they progress with your request. We are about to release a new process that invites people to provide ID&V up front to help speed up the way companies handle requests, so hopefully that will help with requests in the future! I apologise that you didn't have the best first experience we are working hard to deliver the best free service possible but know we have some work to do!

Spam company

This company sends out fake data removal requests to companies they them selves acquired without GDPR approval. They lure customers in and send "removal requests" to a list of companies they hold in their database to pretend like they are helping customers with GDPR compliance.

Waste of time to respond to your requests for customers we don't even have or ever had on our site.

Contacting Righly support received no response.

This is a spam generating company that does not comply with GDPR and sends cold "request" emails to random companies. Do not give them your details.

Spam small businesses with fake customers

As a small business owner, I am spammed by this company on a daily basis asking me to remove data for people who have never been a customer or even signed up for our newsletter.
I reported them as spam but they just won't stop sending me emails that have nothing to do with me or my customers.

Please know that if you use this service, the actual emails the businesses receive are threatening in nature. I can see that smaller companies might panic, especially if like me they don't even have that person on record or any data on them.

Hi Gracie, thanks for your feedback it helps us improve. We intend to adjust the tone of the email, sorry if it comes across a bit strong! We wanted to include the legal basis of the request but we hear you!

People have been showing a huge interest in our service as awareness around data protection rights increases. Just to clarify how things work a little, no request is sent or started by rightly, the requests are raised by the individual themselves.

I'd like to look into this further for you though incase there is something wrong here! Get in touch with us via support@rightly.co.uk so we can help :)

DO NOT USE THIS SERVICE! DO NOT GO THERE! SINCE USING COMPANY BEEN VICTIM OF BANKING FRAUD TWICE AND IDENTITY FRAUD!

IF YOU WANT FRAUDSTERS GRAB AND USE TWO OF YOUR CREDIT CARDS AND SET UP A CREDIT ACCOUNT, IDENTITY FRAUD, THIS COMPANY WILL HELP YOU CONNECT WITH SUCH FRAUDSTERS.

I signed up with this company a few weeks ago, the exact process I wanted to do is find where my personal data could be floating around with companies and on internet and erase as much as humanly possible. Most companies although signed up with them refuse to work with them so you have to separately contact the specific companies. Hours of work for nothing - and they mostly ask for information that you are trying to stop being spread in the first place!

However - The moment I started using this service, suspicious spending happened on two separate credit cards and an identity fraud happened where someone was able to open a credit account under my name. This has NEVER happened to me before. Their business model is flawed, attracts fraudsters, you end up having to do the hard work, they do not check clearly with the companies they sign up their data protection processes are and customer service is INCREDIBLY SLOW.

STAY AWAY!! THIS COMPANY ATTRACTS FRAUDSTERS AND THEY DO NOT APPEAR TO HAVE ANYTHING IN PLACE TO PROTECT YOU WHILST YOU ARE TRYING TO DEAL WITH PERSONAL DATA.

You would at least think they would ensure to seek more accreditations or create a joint association with/by independent bodies like Action Fraud and CIFAS.

You would at least think that they create the highest secure database of your details that they are able to securely have direct contact with the company with better individual verification of use, so that you can avoid having to go through them to only find the company doesn't liaise with third parties even thought they signed up to them and end up having to go through their process, which spreads the risk of data spread in the first place.

JUST STAY AWAY - ESPECIALLY FOR VULNERABLE PEOPLE WHO ARE AT HIGHER RISK.

Hi Samuel,

Thanks for your review, I'm really keep to offer help and support to you as I can see you are concerned.

I should point out that Rightly doesn't collect or store credit card details from any of its users, we offer a completely free service so I am confident this isn't linked to Rightly, although I'm extremely sorry to hear that there was fraudulent spending on your cards, its such a traumatic experience!

We take the security of people's data extremely seriously, consumer protection is at the heart of every decision made :) Any data exchanged between businesses and users of Rightly is inaccessible to Rightly employees. We are registered with the ICO, provide end to end encryption on all correspondence and undergo regular security tests that identify any breach of security.

With regards to ongoing communications with businesses once you've submitted an initial request - yes you will absolutely have to fulfill their requests for ID&V, every company will handle this aspect differently. Rightly helps with bulk submission of requests and companies have 30 days to comply. You are likely to experience some back and forth with most, although we are working hard to make submissions as smooth as possible, reducing correspondence wherever possible,

Please don't hesitate to get in touch with us if we can offer any direct support via support@rightly.co.uk.

SCAM texts and calls after joining RIGHTLY

Out of all the companies (15 or so), only 2 deleted my details.
It's not helpful BUT WHAT IT IS WORSE and really worrying it that I started having doggy/scam text messages and nuisance calls since I left my details in RIGHTLY.
I'm very careful with my details and I even use a secondary number for online shopping, etc to avoid this.
I gave my right details yo Rightly and now I don't have much peace. I learned my lesson.
NEVER AGAIN. I'll do everything myself and I recommend you to do the same.

Hi Maria,

Thanks so much for taking the time to provide us with some feedback, we know there are is some variety in businesses responses to requests sent. It's brilliant you had a good experience with two companies, and whilst we know there are some improvements that need to be made from our side, the fact that so many companies were resistant or challenging proves how important our mission is, it's terrible that businesses think they can get away with wriggling out of DSARs and it reflects the bad practice we see and hear about from our users. Rightly wants to change this, it wants to help people get their data working for them and feel more in control.

With regards to texts/nuisance calls, I can see the implication here and I would like to categorically reassure you that rightly never shares or misuses peoples information, security is at the heart of every decision taken in our business.

it doesn't work!

I contacted lots of companies to get them to delete my data and they either didn't respond or they emailed me asking questions or for photo ID (which makes sense but filled up my inbox with irritating emails) - sorry but the whole concept of this service is flawed as companies clearly don't want to engage with Rightly. This whole idea is a complete farce and Rightly doesn't understand how data works in companies clearly

Hi Maria,

Thanks so much for your feedback and I'm sorry you haven't had a successful time using rightly so far, we are working round the clock to make improvements that will ensure businesses comply effectively.

It's a bit of a David and Goliath situation at the moment, we are challenging big businesses ethics, integrity and processes around GDPR practice and are indeed seeing some resistance!

Used it as it is supposed to make address changes easier however I just got an inbox of emails telling me I need to log on and do it myself. Waste of my time and very irritating

Hi Catherine,

We really appreciate your feedback as it's helping us know how to improve the service being provided. We know we don't have everything quite right at the moment!

It is to be expected that there will be some back and forth between users and companies to get data requests validated and then actioned, and we are in conversations with lots of businesses to look at ways to reduce the burden on consumers in this way.

Thank you for your patience and I apologise that you didn't have a great first experience using Rightly.

More hassle than worth. All emails they have sent out have gone to wrong emails with companies. Eg EE complaints or others who said they couldn’t help / wasn’t appropriate. More mess to sort now than just doing myself from the start.

Hi Hanna,

Thanks so much for taking the time to leave feedback, we are working hard to address issues experienced by Rightly users. Some businesses are proving to be a little tricky with how they pick up the requests and action them. If there is anything we can do to help with your communications feel free to contact us via support@rightly.co.uk.

Hi Hanna,

Thanks so much for your feedback, I'm really sorry that your address change request has not been successful so far!

We've just launched that particular service and are gathering all sorts of feedback from users and businesses perspectives to ensure we continue to improve the offering.

Rightly prides itself on providing one of the securest methods for consumers to handle their personal data, through encrypted transportation and databases, however as we are relatively new to the space and admittedly a bit of a disruptor some businesses are being tricky to engage with! We truly believe that our 1-to-many request capabilities are going to be an essential tool in the kit for consumers that want to gain more control over their personal data so I hope you can bear with us whilst we continue to work on your behalf!

Your patience and understanding is really appreciated and please do get your voice heard with regards to your want for the address change service, there is nothing else out there like it!

If you need any direct help with anything, don't hesitate to get in touch with our customer service team via support@rightly.co.uk !

Waste of time.

The company I sent a data deletion request to just ignored it. Rightly has no escalation process.

Therefore this was a waste of my time; I was under the impression Rightly was supposed to make GDPR requests easier - I just got referred to ICO.

Hi Ronan,

Thanks for your comment! We are working as quickly as possible to develop improvements to our service. What we offer is always going to be completely free for people to use so thank you for your patience :)

Internal escalation to the ICO is absolutely on the horizon but we have to do it right and in collaboration with them, in the meantime using the existing service allowing people to contact lots of businesses at once and handling a variety of requests is what's available. If help is needed beyond this, the ICO are available via their normal channels to provide guidance.

Thanks again,

Team Rightly
