Nurses fantastic but very noisy in ICU.
The standard of care in ICU was very good, the nurses were fantastic, caring, reactive, complete confidence in everything they were doing. My only issue was the noise outside the rooms, a lot of loud talking and even shouting to each other in the main desk area outside the ICU rooms, flashing Xmas lights which were enough to keep you awake, given patiens in ICU are in an extremely predicament , flashing lights and constant loud noises will likely exacerbate their situation. I have to say that Niamh, one of my ICU nurses was one of the best I have had. All of the others were also very good. No complaints on nursing care, just the environment around the rooms could be better.
VERY GRATEFUL
I was diagnosed with Lung Cancer and admitted to Oak Ward on Sunday 21st December. From the time I stepped onto the ward I was treated with warmth, respect and kindness. I had my operation on the 22nd December and I could not have received better treatment or been better looked after if I had been the Queen of England. Every member of staff was so caring, nothing was too much trouble. They are all a credit to their profession. The night before zi was discharged the local church choir paid a visit to the ward and we sat around and sang Christmas carols. I was discharged on Christmas Eve and I am extremely grateful to the theatre staff, nursing staff, tea lady, everyone who made my stay so pleasant. All the cancer was removed through keyhole surgery and I am one very grateful lady. A huge thank you to everyone
Patient safety concerns due to refusal of effective treatment for colitis flare
I am leaving this review to document my experience seeking care for a flare of a diagnosed inflammatory bowel condition, as I feel it highlights serious issues around the management of patients with less common diseases.
I have an established diagnosis of a rare form of colitis, which I have lived with for several years. Several weeks ago, I developed a significant flare with worsening symptoms including but not limited to pain, bleeding, and night-time symptoms waking me from sleep. These symptoms were persistent and progressively worsening, with a major impact on my ability to function day to day.
I sought help through multiple routes. I attended two GP appointments, had two further GP phone consultations, and was seen in Same Day Emergency Care (SDEC). Each GP who assessed me recognised the severity of my symptoms and repeatedly attempted to escalate my care to gastroenterology, expressing concern that I was experiencing an active inflammatory flare requiring treatment.
Despite this, no treatment was initiated. Following my SDEC attendance, I was prescribed only haemorrhoid cream despite not having haemorrhoids, which was confirmed on examination. This treatment does not address colitis or my symptoms.
After further escalation attempts, I was given an urgent outpatient gastroenterology appointment. At this review, I explained my ongoing symptoms. The consultant acknowledged that I required steroid treatment but stated that no treatment would be given until after a repeat colonoscopy, with no date or timescale given for this. I was offered only Buscopan for symptom relief, which I had previously advised does not work for me, and does not treat the underlying inflammation.
Following this appointment, the consultant contacted me again by phone. During this call, steroid treatment was again refused. Instead, I was advised to undertake a six-food elimination diet, despite explaining at the previous appointment that I have already tried this approach previously over several years without benefit. I was also advised that managing my asthma might help treat my bowel disease, despite my colitis remaining untreated.
At no point was any interim or bridging anti-inflammatory treatment offered, despite acknowledged active disease, ongoing bleeding, night-time symptoms, and clear impact on my health and quality of life. I was left actively unwell and struggling to manage symptoms while waiting for further investigation.
I understand the importance of appropriate investigations such as colonoscopy. However, in my experience, this was prioritised over treating an established inflammatory condition and preventing deterioration. I found it distressing to be left without treatment despite repeated assessments and escalation, particularly as a patient with a confirmed diagnosis.
I am sharing this experience in the hope that the trust reflects on how patients with rare or less familiar conditions are managed, and ensures that active disease is treated safely and promptly rather than leaving patients without care.
Fantastic Staff Fantastic Servic
My husband fell from a ladder. We went to A&E and we were very impressed. The staff were all lovely and really helpful. My husband was prioritised for triage as he had hit his head. He was x-rayed and examined. His numerous leg wounds were dressed. They wanted a CT scan on his head because of his medication. The whole period was five hours. It was only this length of time because of the length of time it takes for the CT results to come through. Thank you to all of the A&E staff.
Been waiting more than two years for my Sisters Records
Been waiting more than two years for my Sisters Medical Records re a Meeting at BROAdGREEN Hospital June 2022.
They have said again fill in more forms! Provide ID like Passport or Driving Licence which my Sister does not have! Sent ID September 2024 they are now asking for it again. Chief Executive in my opinion is disgrace! NHS Parliamentary Ombudsman no use re Hip Replacement! Said Clinical Decision not to operate but they also never seen BROAdGREEN Hospital Report June 2022 so how do they know MEDICAL RECOMMENDATION!
I myself admitted Critical Care February 2024 taken full year to get Complaint Reference Number for myself. 11 March 2025

broad green Liverpool physio : Jess
Visited the muscular skeletal physio clinic in broad green.
Was seen by Jess, didn't expect much from them as my doctors physio was pitiful and didnt really help, just told me he'll send me for an x-ray but didn't expect anything from it, so why send me? 😂
Anyway, waited 5 mins, saw Jess and she went through a tonne of questions, tests, stretches, all the while being professional and polite and full of knowledge.
She was absolutely excellent, I've never once had an NHS appointment of this caliber before, it felt like I'd paid for this.
Mind at ease, diagnosed and have exercises to complete, a big step in the right direction, had definitely raised the bar of my expectations.
Thank you Jess, you were brilliant.

Outstanding All Round
Today I had the pleasure of visiting the respiratory clinic at the Royal Liverpool Hospital, and I am compelled to share my exceptional experience. Under the care of Consultant Patricia Yunger and Health Care Assistant Jessica, I received one of the best consultations I have ever had in my many years of hospital visits.
From the moment I arrived, I was treated with the utmost professionalism and friendliness. Dr Yunger's expertise and compassionate approach ensured that I felt completely cared for. Her thoroughness and attentiveness made a significant difference, providing me with confidence and reassurance throughout the consultation.
Jessica, the health care assistant, was equally outstanding. Her warm demeanor and efficient assistance greatly contributed to the smooth and positive experience. Together, they exemplify the highest standards of patient care.
I would like to express my deepest gratitude, respect, and appreciation to Patricia and Jessica. Their dedication and kindness have truly made a lasting impression on me. I wish them all the very best in their careers and commend them for their outstanding service.
Thank you once again for such a brilliant experience.

My mum has been in the royal with pneumonia and urosepsis. She's been on ward 8D room 7. All the staff have been amazing. Nothing is too much for them. I'm incredibly grateful to each and every member of staff for the way they have cared for my mum. The doctors have made sure that every detail of her illness has been investigated and answers found. Happily my mum is able to return home today and that's thanks to the hard work of all the staff as when she was admitted to hospital we weren't sure she would be coming home. You all deserve a medal.
Fantastic endoscopy service
What a fabulous service from start to finish, in a state of the art hospital. I’ve worked for 30 years in the nhs and the service I have received by Dr Tim cross, Dr Britton and his team was amazing. The care was fabulous and I am eternally grateful to all of you for your support. I felt safe, supported and cared for. There was a couple of hours delay, but I feel that, as I was well informed and this was unavoidable, it’s totally acceptable and understandable with all the patients they have to care for. Thank you all for today and for your care and professionalism you are a credit to the NHS.
Absolutely shocking service
Absolutely shocking service, sat around for 14 hours to be seen, the board said 4-6 hours waiting, then waited another 7 hours to see a specialist. Its not the doctors fault obviously they are massively underfunded and underpaid. But one specialist for the whole hospital is an absolute joke !!!
It’s disgusting too vile drug addicted vomiting bloody infront of everyone! Dirty toilets and one tap works out of 3 🤔
Nhs has finally collapsed.

The new royal hospital is not fit for purpose. Too small, seems to have been built with private medicine in mind eg seperate rooms for beds...400 less beds than old. Corridors too narrow. A and e waiting room hard to find and too snall and cold. Disgrace...
The staff on the other hand were amazing. I pity them having to work in a new but unfit location.
Whoever planned this needs prosequting.
Great Service from Endoscopy dept
I visited the
I visited the endoscopy dept today and was treated with the utmost respect and wealth of knowledge from Ms Stewart Room 3 and her team, they had an onerous task but they performed it expertise skill and a modicum of humour.I would like to thank all the staff in the unit they put me at my ease and cared for me with dignity , Thank you
Didn’t treat my daughter very good
Didn’t treat my daughter very good , unprofessional and very rude staff ,
Shocking standard of care
Shocking standard of care, catheter bag left to overflow and patient visitors having to empty it while staff fill in paperwork recording false information about the urine output which they can’t record accurately because nobody is checking it or emptying it. Very, very poor considering the patient had problem with their kidneys. General lack of interest from most of the staff whether patient is okay or not, filling information on the computer takes priority over actually looking at the patient. More than a three hour wait after asking a nurse four times if they can empty a full catheter while she “busy” sitting in a corridor on a computer. Many
Mistakes made including handover information being recorded as a restricted fluid intake when it was actually the minimum fluid intake recommended for kidney problems. Nobody seems to be in charge, asked to speak to the ward sister but nobody ever turned up. I could go on and on. Not fit for purpose.
Poor Theatre Experience
The nursing staff on the ward were great both pre and post operative. However, the pre-op theatre staff were really horrible in what is an anxious time for the patient. The receiving nurse in theatre was short tempered with little empathy, and the anaesthesiology nurse treated me like a slab of neat with no reassurance whatsoever.
Excellent staff, Excellent Hospital
I was admitted to ward 5C on 14th December 2022 after Gastric Sleeve Surgery complications. I had a leak, an infection pocket, an usually small opening to my stomach and a twist to the sleeve.
I was very VERY well cared for by everyone on 5C particularly:
Hanna, Hannah, Aisha, Rachele, Rachael, Leila, Claire, Megan, Meeko, GI Consultant Mr Howes, The pharmacist ladies
and The Nutritionists, Niamh and Kayleigh.
I wanted for nothing, everyone was so kind and friendly.
I'm going home today (6th January), I'm very glad to have recovered enough to be able to go home, but I will also actually miss the place, the staff and the food.
Brilliant care. Brilliant staff.
Thanks to all who cared for me.

I cannot speak highly enough about the…
I cannot speak highly enough about the consultants, doctors, nurses, phlebotomists and other staff members at the Royal Liverpool Hospital. I have spent a lot of time in this hospital over the last 5 years, and last week had to stay unexpectedly overnight on ward 8X. The staff were warm, friendly, and showed great attentiveness and care, especially as my issues were complex and they had to carry out a battery of tests. They literally are lifesavers and I am so proud I live in a country with a fantastic NHS full of dedicated professionals. My family and I thank you from the bottom of our hearts. 10/10 (every time).
The hospital is in total disrepair…
The hospital is in total disrepair windows held in with gaffer tape to try and keep out the drafts. In this recent cold spell with high winds my husband was permanently exceptionally cold. He had undergone major surgery and immediate post op care in the specialist unit was superb however once on general wards care was intermittent. Poor communication my husband has a brain injury and dementia and he was unable to give me any information the doctors told him. Despite frequent requests for blankets none were supplied I had to go and purchase one for my husband. Discharge was rushed and chaotic with no handover to myself just ship him out comes to mind . The surgeons were brilliant and did that we will be forever grateful. Nursing care not a great experience.
Upsetting appointment
I attended a podiatry appointment today. The man was difficult to understand and huffed and puffed when I was attempting to give him details. Very upset, so unprofessional . The previous appointment was with a lovely man that listened, helped and explained everything.
