Absolutely Fantastic Running Coach! :D
I've never had a running coach before, nor have I ever run a marathon, so when Gavin messaged me on IG about wanting to work with me for the St. Jude's Rock 'n' Roll Seattle Full Marathon, I was intrigued.
From the first video consultation, I knew that this was a guy who knew what he was talking about. As a nurse, I love evidence-based research and practice. During his presentation, he presented concepts that I've never heard of before, but absolutely made sense, such as the ALL OUT test and running based on heart rate zones. Backing it up with the science and the evidence sealed the deal for me.
I was on a 16 week training schedule, starting in February, and I was appreciative of the set-up: 3 easy runs and one hard session each week. He pushed me past my comfort zone, but it has made me such a strong runner.
What was super nice, not only physically, but also mentally, were the recovery weeks. They were a great break to let my body recover before going into the next training block.
He also provided me with a variety of workouts to supplement my running and to help me get over my injuries that seemed like Whack-a-Mole: once one injury goes away, another one comes up.
The bi-weekly video consultations were great for touching base about where I was at physically and emotionally. He was also easy to contact even with the time difference (I live in Seattle, so I'm 8 hours behind him).
Ultimately, my goal was to run my marathon in under 4 hours. Due to everything going on, my race was postponed and I decided to run my own virtual marathon on June 7th. I didn't just meet my goal; I smashed it, running a 3:48 marathon!!!
If you're looking for a running coach who uses science to help you succeed, look no further than Gavin. He'll help you become stronger and faster by...running smarter ;)
