SafetyWing has been a great experience for me. I really love how easy the app is to use especially when it comes to uploading claims. The process is smooth and straightforward, and I can easily access all the details of my coverage anytime and also the real time status of my submitted claims. It makes managing insurance so much more convenient and stress-free.

The platform is very user-friendly, and the claims process is efficient with quick response times.

I strongly advise digital nomads to avoid SafetyWing.
My experience proves that this company deliberately ignores clinical evidence and laboratory results to apply its own convenient exclusions.
I submitted a claim for a specialist consultation.
Two different specialists identified three possible conditions—two of which are fully covered by the policy. Despite providing official laboratory results confirming I am NEGATIVE for STIs, SafetyWing arbitrarily decided to base their denial on the only diagnosis that conveniently falls under an exclusion, completely disregarding the medical evidence and lab tests.
Furthermore, they pressured me to undergo an invasive and expensive biopsy. According to the contract, an insurer should cover the step-by-step diagnostic process to reach a conclusion. Instead, they used the biopsy as a hurdle, ignoring the fact that less invasive tests had already ruled out their preferred "exclusion" diagnosis.
The claims process is intentionally obstructive:
1. They force you through endless internal appeal cycles to stall for time.
2. When the internal process is exhausted and you ask for a government regulator/Ombudsman, they try to push you toward private arbitration platforms (which they fund) instead of providing the contact details for the official regulatory body (the Office of the Commissioner of Insurance of Puerto Rico).
If you are looking for an insurer that acts in good faith and respects medical facts, look elsewhere. They are quick to collect monthly premiums but vanish behind bad-faith interpretations when you actually need support.
Terrible management, lack of transparency, and clinical bad faith.
I am currently filing a formal complaint with the Office of the Commissioner of Insurance of Puerto Rico (OCS). I refuse to let an insurer ignore scientific evidence just to protect their profit margins.
UPDATE 1
SafetyWing has responded here with a generic PR template to show how focused they are on their customers.
They claim to respect my right to "further review," yet they refuse to provide the contact details of the official government regulator (OCS Puerto Rico). This is not a simple "disagreement"—it is a documented case of bad faith.
I'll update this review again and share the results once OCS Puerto Rico has made a decision about it, so people know how to proceed when stonewalled

Easy and quick to register and pay for travel insurance.

Compensation payments have not been made. I have contacted them multiple times but have not received any payment. Stay away from this company.

I was chatting with support for more than a month and did not manage to get my claims: they kept asking same questions as if it was different person every time with zero context. I had to answer on the same questions over and over again and sometimes received controversal answers. They asked for my address like literally 5 or 6 times.
So it's very easy to pay them, but it's almost impossible to get paid by them. I just unsubscribed and will not choose this company ever again. Don't recommend it to anyone, it's just a waste of money.

I was first presented with $60. Then about $90, then over $100.
Not cool

100% a scam. They take your premium but have on intention on reimbursing any appointment/medicine. I took out their health insurance for my family in the UAE while we settled down and every claim was always rejected. They always ask for more documents and even when you provide exactly what the hospital gave you, they still reject every claim. Simple doctor appointments for a fever/cold where the medical centre provides exact documents required by insurance companies are still rejected.

I used to be the biggest fan of SafetyWing. I have shared my excitement and have had a friend sign up. I even added my husband.
I don't know what's going on behind the scenes, but this company is going downhill and fast. And it's only been the last 3-6 months. I am still waiting over a month and a half for a reimbursement, where in the past reimbursements used to happen in 3-5 days. I have now twice been told my account number for reimbursement was wrong, when it's not even the account number I entered. I'm going to start screen shotting every claim, just to prove my point next time I get this email. Now I still don't have a reimbursement and they tell me it takes 10 days to hit my bank account. What changed?! My friend I recommended has now had his reimbursements be deposited into the wrong account TWICE.
Claims used to be easy - you go to the doctor, ask for a reimbursement, and they provide. Now I feel they fight back so much on any benefit you request. They say they provide mental health benefits, but when you do want to use them and go to a therapist like my husband did, they fight back on even paying that, to the point where they ended up denying the claim, even through two appeals processes.
I don't know where things started going wrong with this company, but the last 3-6 months has felt so unprofessional that I am looking for another option, and can longer recommend safetywing for their insurance coverage. If you need it for emergencies, then I guess ok? But to try and use this for actual everyday coverage, no longer my cup of tea.
Even customer service emails, I'm getting 4-5 days response time. My latest email to support has remained unanswered for over a week. I just feel like SafetyWing "had it" and has now "lost it." I'm so disappointed as a customer and am looking elsewhere.

I haven't had to make a claim yet, so I don't know about the important stuff, but they have been helpful when I have had questions.

Two sides of the coin. I was covered for most of my medical bills but they had loop holes on stolen items. I got really sick when i was in Thailand and ended up hospitalised for 6 days. Safteywing covered all my offial medicals bills that came from the doctors surgery and the hosptial. They wouldnt cover me for medication i bought at the pharmacies. Then unfortunately on my return home, my hold luggage was broken into and many items in my case were stolen, including all my gold and silver jewellery (some handmade pieces I can never get again), 20 packs of ciggerettes, gifts for my family etc. They wouldn't cover any of it because their BS loop hole states that becuase i didnt lose my whole bag, then they are not liable to cover it. Even after i gave them a police statement. I probably lost about £5000 worth of items in that bag im devestated. Get your jewellery covered peeps please and put it in your hand luggage, which i wish i had remembered to do. One thing that does stand out is safteywings customer service, its excellent super speedy and available 24/7.
