0/10 Anaphylaxis beware! Victim blaming
My partner and I just left our boat and are extremely disappointed. My partner is DEATHLY allergic to peanuts and had made contact with a sales rep before the cruise to let them know. Once we boarded the boat it was made known to us that the crew was not informed and that it was our responsibility to check the safety of our food. We had other food preferences and allergens on board (none of which were deadly) which was well catered for. However a DEADLY peanut allergy WAS NOT. It was met with annoyance from the crew and we were made to feel as if we were being painful and over the top. In the last night due to group activities we all opted for a group dinner which was Mexican burritos and after a single bite my partner had an immediate allergic reaction. Other guest on board could TASTE AND SEE PEANUTS inside the burrito but after talking to the chef he claimed there was none, although the reaction said otherwise. Upon speaking to the chef the next morning, he confirmed that there was in fact a small amount of peanuts in the dish by saying “Yes peanuts, but only a little bit” after we agreed that the stuff in peanut butter was in the burritos in front of another guest. I did then raise my voice and told him my parter could have died to which he very quickly back tracked and is now claiming there were no nuts. Luckily my partner is a nurse and there was also another nurse on board to monitor and administer medications. Due to the small amount my partner ingested she didn’t need her epipen and a trip to the hospital was not needed however if she had eaten anymore or had eaten a piece of the burrito that had a nut in it, it would have been a different story. The most disgusting and disappointing section of this story is after making a formal complaint, customer service has continued the trend of victim blaming and is clearly trying to brush it under the rug by offering a small refund. We are lucky with the amount she ingested and the fact that if it was worse at least we were in Split and not at a swim spot. I’m extremely disappointed in both the actions of the crew, chef and sales as they have gone above and beyond to NOT take responsibility for causing ill health to one of their guest. I will NOT be recommending this to anyone.
