0/10 Anaphylaxis beware! Victim blaming

My partner and I just left our boat and are extremely disappointed. My partner is DEATHLY allergic to peanuts and had made contact with a sales rep before the cruise to let them know. Once we boarded the boat it was made known to us that the crew was not informed and that it was our responsibility to check the safety of our food. We had other food preferences and allergens on board (none of which were deadly) which was well catered for. However a DEADLY peanut allergy WAS NOT. It was met with annoyance from the crew and we were made to feel as if we were being painful and over the top. In the last night due to group activities we all opted for a group dinner which was Mexican burritos and after a single bite my partner had an immediate allergic reaction. Other guest on board could TASTE AND SEE PEANUTS inside the burrito but after talking to the chef he claimed there was none, although the reaction said otherwise. Upon speaking to the chef the next morning, he confirmed that there was in fact a small amount of peanuts in the dish by saying “Yes peanuts, but only a little bit” after we agreed that the stuff in peanut butter was in the burritos in front of another guest. I did then raise my voice and told him my parter could have died to which he very quickly back tracked and is now claiming there were no nuts. Luckily my partner is a nurse and there was also another nurse on board to monitor and administer medications. Due to the small amount my partner ingested she didn’t need her epipen and a trip to the hospital was not needed however if she had eaten anymore or had eaten a piece of the burrito that had a nut in it, it would have been a different story. The most disgusting and disappointing section of this story is after making a formal complaint, customer service has continued the trend of victim blaming and is clearly trying to brush it under the rug by offering a small refund. We are lucky with the amount she ingested and the fact that if it was worse at least we were in Split and not at a swim spot. I’m extremely disappointed in both the actions of the crew, chef and sales as they have gone above and beyond to NOT take responsibility for causing ill health to one of their guest. I will NOT be recommending this to anyone.

Reply from Sail Club Croatia

Hello CJ,

We have read your review and first and foremost, we must say that we are extremely sorry for what you and your partner went through, and we hope that you receive a sincere apology from Sail Croatia, with whom you booked the boat. However, we are the company Sail Club Croatia, and we previously had the same name as the company you booked with, which we believe led to the confusion in choosing the profile to leave your review.

We are a charter company based in Kaštela and Pula, and we do not offer chefs; this is not something our boats provide. Once again, we are sorry that you had such an experience in Croatia and that you had to go through this. We understand your anger and ask you to please contact the company with whom you booked the boat.

We kindly ask you to verify the details of your review to ensure it is not meant for us. If it is indeed for another company, please delete the review from our profile to prevent any negative impact on our reputation for an issue that was not caused by us or our staff.

Also, we do not offer chefs on board, our boats do not offer that.
We ask you to check it once again.

Don’t hire a yacht from Split

On the positive side they have a very effective online portal and do answer emails promptly. However I had the impression that all they really were interested in was my money. Any requests to ask for an earlier boat collection etc were responded to with quotes for ridiculous sums of money. They appear to not correspond effectively with their agent in Split in my opinion. For example when we arrived at lunchtime and called to ask could we board the boat early they couldn’t have been more accommodating and at no extra charge. Post sailing I completed the questionnaire sent out and detailed the electrical issues which meant we had to turn the fridge off every time we left port to stop the batteries discharging. There was no feedback, explanation or offer of compensation. This added to my impression of their only concern was getting my money. Finally don’t charter a boat from Split. Trogir is closer to the airport, a bigger marina and most importantly has many bays and ports nearby to moor in, if they insist on handing the boat over at 5pm and expecting you to leave port that night

Dear David,

We are sorry to hear that you had such an experience and hope that you have also contacted the company via email with your dissatisfaction and that you managed to get some compensation from the company that caused you this dissatisfaction. Although we regret to hear this, we must inform you that this does not concern us and that you have mistaken the profile on which you are leaving the review. We are the company Sail Club Croatia, and our base is located in Kaštela, not Split, so we believe that you were not our guest; similarly, we do not have agents in Split. We do work with agents, but at our office in Kaštel Gomilica, near our fleet, it is us who wait at the reception for our guests, including those who book through agents.

We are sorry that you had this experience in Croatia and suggest that you file a claim with the company from which you booked the boat. We hope you will receive something in return to perhaps make up for the shortcomings. We wish you a pleasant rest of the day and, hopefully, a more enjoyable and better next visit to Croatia.

We kindly ask you to verify the details of your review to ensure it is not meant for us. If it is indeed for another company, please delete the review from our profile to prevent any negative impact on our reputation for an issue that was not caused by us or our staff.
