- they dont respond until last days
- right before the trip they changed the boat
- boat was with plenty of problems
- boat was not cleaned
- check-in time took 5h+
- did not provide any support throughout the trip

Be aware! they might change your boat easily - do not agree or double check eveyrthing! Very poor support! i would even say no support !

My friends and I chartered a boat from Sailways. We had a minor issue with the reservation at the beginning, but the company was open to solve it to make everybody happy. The staff were available to help us from the very beginning of the trip and all the way to the very end (even during the night :) ). I can say very professional service. We had old school boat, Sea Star — very nice despite of its age - had brand new engine, ane renewed furniture, very fast and comfortable. Check out without any problems. I can recommend it.

Untrustful company

Terrible experience. All other 1-star opinions are accurate and up-to-date.
- Deposit increased from 3000 EUR to 3600 EUR.
- The yacht was changed on the day of check-in.
- Check in was carried out by incompenent person - unable to answer question, no proper instructions, very hasty.
- The yacht (2018) had a lot of hidden issues:
- a lot of broken locker hinges,
- door handles falling apart and blocking by itself,
- a few missing pieces of equipment (e. g. brush),
- the engine was leaking oil (and they charge from deposit for that!),
- electrical connection problem caused starter engine to stop running - dangerous situation resulting from poor engine maintenance,
- mainsail slides and wagoons in poor condition - breaking during 5B wind (also charged forom my deposit) - yacht unable to sail upwind,
- some minor scratches and a dent on the boom,
- diesel in the bilge after refilling the tank.
- Thorough check out - charging also for minor damages resulting from prior poor condition.

Although it was off-season charter, the issues were still unacceptable. All 4 yachts in the fleet chartered from Sailways had very similar problems.

Yacht charter in Athens in 2025

I rented a yacht in Athens in 2025 during the summer holidays. We received a different yacht than we booked. Overall, the cruise was a success, although we lost money and time due to a boom failure, which disintegrated due to age during our cruise, and we were forced to return to Athens using the engine. The company did repair the fault, but charged us for the repair, parts, and the marina stay during the repair (very high rates), as well as fictitious repairs (e.g., to the deck) that never occurred. The deposit was only collected after we returned to Poland; nothing was mentioned about the bill when we returned the yacht. This is very dishonest behavior. We have photographic and physical evidence (damaged boom mountings). We may have to take Sailways to court to sue them! Be warned, they are not a reputable company!

Dear Joanna,

We are genuinely sorry that, several months after your charter, you have chosen to publicly describe your experience in this manner. Nevertheless, we believe it is important to clarify certain facts that are missing from your review.

As you and crew are aware, the main incident during the charter involved damage to the boom/gooseneck system during sailing maneuvers on the second day of the trip.

This is one of the most reinforced and highly loaded structural areas of a sailing yacht, specifically designed to withstand very significant forces. Our primary concern at that moment was the safety of the crew, and fortunately the yacht returned safely without injuries or further danger.

What is also omitted from your review is that:

* communication with our company was immediate,
* the yacht returned safely to the marina,
* our technical team mobilized on a Sunday,
* emergency intervention and repairs were carried out promptly,
* and the company chose to prioritize the continuation of your holiday instead of proceeding with immobilization of the yacht and formal interruption of the charter.

It is also important to note that, in your own review, you mention that the cruise itself was successful. For this reason, we believe that publicly presenting the company as dishonest does not accurately reflect the overall reality of what occurred during the charter.

Regarding the charges, no “fictitious repairs” were invoiced. The charges were based on actual events, technical inspection and documented findings related to the incident and the repair process, according to the charter agreement and procedures applicable to all clients equally.

We fully respect every client’s right to express an opinion. However, we believe it is unfair to publicly describe the company in this manner when, in reality, our team responded immediately to a serious sailing incident and made every effort to ensure that your holiday could continue safely and with minimal disruption.

Nevertheless, we truly appreciate that, despite the incident, your trip continued and was completed.

Dear Aleksa,

Thank you for sharing your feedback.

We understand how frustrating it can be when there is a disagreement at the end of a charter. That said, all damage charges are only applied after a documented check-out process, based on findings recorded at return and in line with the signed charter agreement.

We do not charge for damages without reason, and every case is handled with the same procedure and level of transparency. For obvious reasons, we cannot discuss the details of individual charters publicly, but we are always available to review any documentation directly with our clients.

Our goal is always to provide a fair and professional charter experience, and we regret when a situation is perceived otherwise.

Kind regards,

Never book with sailways if you want to enjoy your vacation

We didn’t choose this charter company directly, but through Borrow A Boat, which didn’t check the reliability of this terrible company.
We had rented a Bavaria 50, but once we arrived, they gave us a Cyclades 50.5, called Fairy which is a lower quality boat, and we had no way to complain without losing the vacation.
As soon as we boarded, we noticed that only one of the two refrigerators was working. We asked for it to be repaired, but it wasn’t possible.
After a few hours of sailing, the batteries started to give warning signals because they were discharged. We thought it was strange since the boat had been plugged into shore power at the marina.
Upon arriving in Elafonisos, while maneuvering, the anchor windlass started operating on its own, releasing chain, then stopped working altogether. We smelled a strong sulfur odor and discovered that one of the batteries was fried. We asked for assistance, and they asked our captain, via video call, to isolate one of the batteries so that the others wouldn’t be damaged. After five hours and several attempts, we were left without power on board—no instruments, no lights, no toilets, and, worst of all, no way to raise 50 meters of anchor.
They called us incompetent and blamed us for the issue with the batteries, asking us to return the boat to Athens since we apparently didn’t know how to handle it. Of course, we refused, given the impossibility of sailing and manually raising the 50-meter anchor.
They showed up the next afternoon, changed a battery, and fixed the windlass. The assistance was terrible and rude. Instead of apologizing, they accused us of incompetence. To make matters worse, the oven button wouldn’t stay pressed, making it unusable, the radio for calling the port or for emergencies wasn’t working, and worst of all, the tender had a puncture and deflated every 2 hours. Also, the mainsail was poorly rolled, so every time we used it, it would get stuck, and we had to pull it out by hand, which made us lose the will to use it at all.
Never book with this company if you want to enjoy your vacation.

Dear Sir/Madam,

The yacht you received was a clear upgrade from your original booking (Cyclades 50.5 with 6 cabins, generator, and air conditioning instead of a Bavaria 50 without these features).

The only real issue was that the charger had been left switched off for three days, which caused the batteries to discharge. This led to one battery failing – a normal consequence in such conditions. Despite our repeated video-call guidance, your skipper could not perform the simple task of disconnecting/replacing a 12V battery.

We immediately sent a technician from Athens (5.5 hours each way). The battery was replaced, the windlass restored, and you were not charged for any battery or materials, only for the travel expenses. The yacht then operated normally for the rest of your two-week charter.

Other claims (fridge, oven, VHF, sails, tender) were never reported during your trip and do not reflect reality.

SailWays always supports its clients, but it is equally important that actual facts and responsibilities are acknowledged.

Sincerely,

Don’t choose this charter company

We didn’t choose this charter company directly, but through Borrow A Boat, which didn’t check the reliability of this terrible company.

SailWays has never had any booking or cooperation with you. There are no records of any charter under your name, which makes your statements false and misleading.

Our company operates with full transparency and professionalism, and such baseless accusations cannot remain unanswered.

I rented a boat through b Sailways.gr

I rented a boat through b Sailways.gr, which we later discovered had terrible reviews. Two days before departure, they informed us that the deposit would be increased from €2,500 to €3,000.
When we arrived in Greece, the booked boat was unavailable, and they gave us another one that was run down and in poor condition. After two days, we were left with a breakdown, with the batteries at risk of catching fire. The cabins and berths were different. A refrigerator didn't work. The tender had a hole in it. When we reported the breakdowns, they tried to claim we weren't capable of operating the boat and it was our fault. The €3,000 deposit was withheld in full, and on the day of the refund, €2,670 was returned. We had already read other reviews saying they tended to find excuses to pocket the deposit. Beyond the condition of the boat, which put me and my crew at risk, the rudeness and incompetence of the staff should be noted. We'll be contacting lawyers to get back what was taken from us, and also request a refund for the vacation ruined by their negligence. Stay away from Sailwys!

Dear Sir,

Allow us to clarify the actual facts regarding your charter.

I love my work and I respect the clients who choose us. However, the fact remains that we spent not one or two, but eight full hours guiding you step by step on how to replace a battery, flip a switch, and activate basic systems (lights, bilge pump, fresh water pump).

And this was the result of your inexperience/lack of knowledge. You had deactivated the charger, leaving the yacht without charging for three full days. Only then did you realize the issue and call us. It is only natural in such a situation that the batteries became fully discharged. As a result, one of the batteries – as was confirmed – developed a fault. We asked you either to remove it or to replace it, and you were unable to do either.

We then dispatched a technician on a 5.5-hour journey from Athens (and the same time back), solely to replace a battery that you refused to handle. In reality, such an intervention would normally cost at least €1,500. Nevertheless, you were not charged for the battery or any materials – only for the travel expenses and fuel.

Furthermore, the yacht that we delivered to you was of a higher category than the one you had originally booked. The boat you had reserved had 5 cabins, without generator and without air conditioning. The yacht you received had 6 cabins, a generator, and air conditioning – a clear upgrade that we were able to provide thanks to the flexibility of our fleet.

Your message on Trustpilot does not reflect the real facts. It unfairly misrepresents the situation and seems more like an attempt to justify yourself in front of your guests or your family.

Sincerely,
SailWays Team

Far the worst charter experience ever!!!

I have them 1 star only because 0 was not an option!!!

- The boat set sail at 5:00 PM and wasn't ready or clean; the galley was still scattered around the dinette, beds needed making, etc.
- The crew immediately said they work from 9:00 AM to 5:00 PM and that they had to be at anchor or in port by that time.
- We should have been told that the crew had to use one of our bathrooms.
- The cook couldn't even prepare a tomato sauce.
- Our cabin smelled of bilge water.
- The boat is dirty and is only cleaned when in port.
- Skipper keeps his luggage on the flybridge
- Hostess sleeps in the dinette amidst bags of groceries
- Old, worn sheets and towels, and of terrible quality
- Port cabin is very noisy, both with the generator and the engine
- A/C cannot be used if you're in the cabin because the vents are next to the cushions and the airflow is not adjustable, so it's freezing
- Food left in bags in the dinette without being put away
- Dinghy is dirty on the seats, so when you go out in the evening, you get dirty
- The photos in the rental boat brochure don't match the boat you gave us; it's the same boat, but not furnished in the same welcoming way
- The Hostess is unwelcoming, always sullen, and incapable of welcoming guests or maintaining a friendly attitude
- Water came in from the window in the rear cabin right side;
- Impossible to regulate A/C which could only be at max speed and came out from the side of the bed

Dear guest,

Your review contains a series of inaccurate and contradictory statements that do not reflect reality. With full transparency, we set the record straight:

Check-in / Cleanliness: You boarded the yacht two hours before the official check-in time, without being charged the early check-in fee (€300). The yacht had been cleaned by the crew with the support of a cleaning team according to the terms. Claiming it “wasn’t ready or clean” while boarding earlier than agreed is contradictory.

Crew schedule: The skipper explained from the very beginning that the safe daily sailing limit is 7–8 hours, in line with international safety standards. This is not “office hours” but a safety rule for both crew and guests. Despite this, he even sailed outside of these hours, including at night, to meet your pressure.

Crew bathroom: The yacht has 4 cabins/4 bathrooms. From the start it was made clear that, with 2 crew members on board, one bathroom would be used by them. This is standard and obvious in any crewed charter of this size.

Hostess / Galley: The hostess is a professional with years of experience. Her role is hostess/cook (preparing breakfast, lunch, light meals, and assisting on deck) – not Michelin chef or full housekeeper. She prepared three meals a day while also supporting the skipper. Saying she “couldn’t cook a tomato sauce” is offensive and false.

Odors / Maintenance: No official report ever recorded “bilge smells.” In conditions of 30–40 knots with waves reaching the flybridge, it is natural to have some drops through portholes if they are left open by passengers. This is a matter of use, not lack of maintenance.

Linen / Towels: Fresh and clean linen was provided according to the yacht’s standards. Claims of “old and worn” are not accurate.

Crew behavior: Comments on where the crew rests or leaves luggage are purely subjective. The crew worked continuously to serve you, operating the yacht safely, serving meals, and handling tender/fenders.

A/C – Generator: The A/C worked normally. Noise from generator and engine is natural in a 46-foot yacht; this is not a superyacht.

Photos / Expectations: The yacht is exactly as shown in the manufacturer’s brochure. If you expected something “more luxurious,” this is a matter of expectations, not misrepresentation.

Using terms such as “nightmare” and “scam” does not reflect facts but shows an attempt to discredit. The contract was executed in full: yacht delivered, services provided, crew present and working with professionalism.

It is also clear that your intent is to damage our company’s reputation. You know very well that under the charter contract SailWays acted strictly as broker/agent, since the yacht belongs to another company. In this charter we acted as intermediaries: we received the request through another broker (Mr. Lykourgos), and we secured a yacht in the area you asked for. Despite our repeated offers to communicate directly with you, you chose to deal only with your broker. Ignoring this fact now only reinforces the impression that your review is deliberate and unfair.

Sincerely,
SailWays S.A.

Fraudulent company

Fraudulent company. First of all they sell you a perfect fitted boat and service that doesn’t respond to reality. The boat was really dirty, without any of the basic equipment. Water entering regularly from the windows and service totally non corresponding to the price. Sailing equipment in bad condition, and real knowledge of basic sailing totally inappropriate. The price was not corresponding to the offer, at least 45% surplus. The contract never mentioned some requests of the stuff. We were totally cleared on what we wanted. They first guaranteed it but never respect. The boat needs a serious maintenance but we know they rented this week again.

The company response is not supported by picture i have plenty to demonstrate everything. I ma sorry the company says i Made another review with other account but i only write with me real name

Dear guest,

Your review contains a series of inaccurate and contradictory statements that do not reflect reality. Moreover, you are repeating the same false allegations without any evidence. Despite your claims, you have not provided a single photo or document to Trustpilot to support them. Recycling unfounded accusations without proof is not a “review” but deliberate defamation.

We therefore clarify the actual facts:

Cleanliness / Equipment: The yacht was delivered clean, with all the required safety and hospitality equipment. You even boarded two hours earlier than the official check-in time, without being charged the €300 early check-in fee. Claiming it was “dirty” and “without equipment” while boarding before the official time is contradictory.

Water ingress: In conditions of 30–40 knots, with waves reaching the flybridge, it is normal for a few drops to appear if portholes are left open. This is an issue of usage, not of maintenance.

Sails condition: The sails were fully operational. In 7–8 Beaufort headwinds on a catamaran, using the mainsail is unsafe, which is why the skipper sailed under engine power. This was a safety decision, not a “damage.”

Price / “Overcharge”: The actual amount received by SailWays was €28,000 – nothing more. Bank records confirm this. Any additional sums paid to intermediaries or commissions withheld by brokers are not our responsibility. Claims of “45% surplus” are baseless.

Contract / Promises: The contract was fully respected: yacht delivered, crew present, services provided. At no point did we promise “super luxury” services. You chartered a 46-foot catamaran with a 2-person crew, not a superyacht with a multi-member staff.

Maintenance: The yacht is regularly maintained according to standards. Your remark that “the same yacht was rented again the following week” proves it was in excellent working order.

Furthermore, it is clear that your intention is to damage SailWays’ reputation. In this contract there were three parties involved: the initial broker (Lykourgos), SailWays as a second broker/agent, and the yacht’s owner (Margeo). You were fully aware of this structure. Nevertheless, you consistently refused to communicate directly with us – despite repeated invitations – and chose to deal only with your first broker. Now, by omitting both him and the owner from your review and targeting SailWays alone, your stance appears deliberate and unfair.

We also note that you have already posted another 1-star review under a different account, with similar claims. This clearly demonstrates an intention to discredit SailWays rather than provide an objective evaluation. This is precisely why we go into detail: to ensure full transparency towards third parties and the Trustpilot platform.

SailWays remains fully available to Trustpilot and the legal authorities to provide all official documentation. False accusations and public defamation will be pursued by every legal means.

Sincerely,
SailWays S.A.

Fraudulent company

Fraudulent company, boats in catastrophic condition. The sail was deliberately sewn badly - it tears as soon as it's hoisted. The boat was taking on water! Every approx. 12 hours, it had to be bailed out with a bilge pump. A big scam! We met another crew from the Czech Republic at the location who had a boat from this company, and they had a similar problem. WARNING - the company does not return deposits! They always just post a few fake reviews on Trustpilot to improve their reputation a bit.

Dear Sir,

We are truly sorry for your negative post, which, however, does not reflect reality. Based on our records, we cannot identify any charter under your name or the name of the crew you mention.

All our yachts are delivered in full working order, with an official inspection and a signed check-in protocol by the client. If any issue arises during the charter, our policy is clear: our technical team intervenes immediately and logs the incident accordingly.

Your claims about “catastrophic condition,” “torn sails,” or “water ingress” have never been reported on any of our yachts, nor have such cases been confirmed by actual clients. Likewise, the accusation that our company does not return deposits is entirely false: all security deposits are refunded according to the contract terms, except in cases of proven damages, always with documented evidence.

For this reason, we kindly ask you to provide us with the actual details of your booking (charterer’s name, booking code, and dates) so that we can verify and respond officially. Otherwise, your post will be considered unfounded and defamatory.

SailWays does not accept unfounded allegations and reserves the right to take legal action in cases of defamatory statements.

Dear Captain,

I would like to express my sincere gratitude for the excellent cooperation we had during the charter of our catamaran. With exceptional calmness and professionalism, you handled the minor issues that arose on the vessel, and your assistance in resolving them was invaluable. We are grateful for your understanding and support, which contributed significantly to making your vacation enjoyable.

Additionally, your decision to return the vessel with a slight delay, which we gladly accepted, further demonstrated your responsibility and respect. We were particularly pleased that the vessel was returned in excellent condition and that your guests were satisfied.

We look forward to welcoming you back soon and offering you an equally positive experience.

Dear Elif,
Thank you for your feedback. We are sorry to hear that your experience was not as expected. We would like to clarify the following:Upon the return of the boat, significant damages were recorded, as shown in the proforma invoice totaling €3,030. These damages were confirmed by independent inspectors and the relevant port authorities. For this reason, it was not possible to return the deposit, as the repair costs exceeded this amount. Two weeks ago, when you took the boat, the comment you left on the check-in list was filled with praise for our staff and the condition of the boat. However, you did not inform us that you lacked experience and that it was your first time on a boat, and that you planned to sail in the Aegean. After two weeks in the Aegean and the Cyclades, you confided in us that it was your first time handling a boat on your own and that you were very worried because you brought your wife and two young children. We offered you a skipper to help you enjoy your vacation safely, but you chose not to accept it. Without informing us of all the damages you had caused, you abandoned the boat on the island of Syros. The boat was delivered in excellent condition, clean and fully operational, as confirmed by the Lloyd's inspector and the port authorities. We regret that your claims do not reflect the reality. Our company is committed to providing high-quality services, and we are sorry for your disappointment. However, attempting to defame our company with false claims is unfortunate and unjustified.Thank you for your understanding, and we remain at your disposal for any further clarification.
Sincerely,
Sailways

Bunch of Cowboys

They rented us a boat with serious issues including but not limited to a very bad diesel leak which meant we had to sleep on deck or breathe in diesel fumes within the cabin. It was actually nearly better to sleep on deck, as the majority of the windows leaked very badly, meaning a number of the beds were soaked the entire time as it was stormy weather.
Batteries didn't charge correctly leaving us with limited access to electricity which as you can imagine is not ideal for toilet and shower facilities, as well as the bow thrusters not working.
Despite all these problems, the biggest issue is the response we received from the company. They took no responsibility even though it is clear they are very much aware of these issues when I read all these other reviews.
Would never hire a boat from them again and would recommend you to avoid them at all costs.
