Abusive Marketing Practices

Due to a recommendation by a friend I was interested in watching a film produced by SAND (scienceandnonduality.com). I was irritated by the fact that I was forced to agree to receiving marketing information from the company before even getting access to basic information about the cost and conditions of the viewing. This is a practice that was heretofore unknown to me. It is generally against European law (including GDPR) for companies to force individuals to subscribe to a newsletter as a condition for getting basic purchasing information or accessing a product, unless the newsletter is an essential part of the service itself. Newsletter sign-up requires clear, informed, and voluntary consent, and every email must offer an easy and functioning way to unsubscribe.

The emails do offer an unsubscribe link which I have now followed 5 times and I am still getting daily emails from this company. I find this practice and consequent behaviour especially concerning coming from a company that is supposedly promoting the general raising of consciousness and ethical living in the world.

Chronic disregard for the boundaries - including digital boundaries - of a person is abuse in my books.
