Amazing

Had the most fantastic experience with n5 English, amazing teacher, so so helpful. All of the coursework is laid out perfectly. Well organised and always there to help. Looking forward to continuing study with them.
Amazing!

AVOID!

This company is absolutely ridiculous. I am sure there are better options like just going through the open university where you don't need highers or going to college! The lack of communication is insane, there are no real classes and all the feedback given on prelims is too vague to he helpful. In school or college they would individually comment on essats to show you where you gained marks, wheras here they just tell you to 'include the three elements of analysis,' UNHELPFUL, unspecific and useless. I am a tutor for Higher English and I have had several pupils complain to me about this company as the amount of support they provide is extremely limited, especially for the cost of the courses.

Higher and Higher

For those in need of an online educational experience, this is really first class. The whole team take a "can do" approach and adapts to support the learners' needs while delivering a high quailty educational experience.
It is largely self paced but with regular assignments as well as zoom sessions and written feedback on submitted assigments. Online Prelims (mocks) give students a chance to test their learning before sitting the real thing in person in Perth. It was great to meet the team face to face, who were as friendly and supportive in person as they have been over the past year. As parents, we are really pleased with the experience and are inspired to take a course or two in the future.
For anyone who needs an online / home learning approach this does the job wonderfully well.

Don't waste your money

EDIT: They are now either buying or them themselves leaving fake reviews clearly written by someone a lot older than a teenager pretending to be one, convieniently it is the only review being acknowledged by the company so let me clarify further:
1. I am a real student with the past year of experience undertaking multiple highers at various colleges across the country, unfortunately I have had the displeasure of having to take one with SHO.
2. Both of my other courses I take with different colleges have weekly classes with the lecturer explaining coursework, hands on experience with the teachers, and recorded tutorials on each subject. The claims of "unrealistic expectations" when this course costs double what a normal college would charge and provides nothing of the sorts is ridiculous.
3. The "zoom sessions" mentioned are not classes, they are 15 minute long instructions on technical things such as accessing the vle or where to sit an exam, there are only 4 per year.

There is NO classes. The prices are double what it costs to take an actual higher course yet all they give you is a pdf for each subject which you could find easily online. There are no classes, recorded lessons or any real assistance from the teachers. If you do this course, you will never get a lesson of any kind. I have had to fork out money for a private tutor to do the job I paid £600 for this "college" to do.

It is cheaper to book the final exam for £300 elsewhere and just watch youtube videos as that is all the guidance you will recieve from this place anyways. The "help if you're stuck" option leads to a yahoo search of the subject...

As for the PDFs of each topic, they are sloppily done, full of spelling mistakes and often contain methods/topics not current to the SQA exams. Do not go here.

Scottish Highers Online -Hugely helpful for ScottishN5's-Advanced Highers -Fab!!

Teenage Student 2024-2025 doing 3 X N5's, (all passed), and current student doing 3 X Scottish Highers 2025-2026, I have real experience of Scottish Highers Online.
My experience as a real student is vastly different than the other reviewers here. I have found the Tutors and Centre Manager Emma to be most helpful and encouraging, and I am real glad that they are around for folks, they offer monthly payment plans and are a godsend for those unable to be state educated, along with those studying alongside their job, have seen a variety of people in Online Zoom sessions.

E mails are quickly replied to, no delay any more than any other busy business, factoring in that many Tutors are busy working teachers, and volunteer helpers too.

I've nothing but positive vibes to give about SHO, and am fully aware that my own parent feels glad that they offered a N5 route, entirely matching the COfE, and structured in a way that materials can easily be printed to work with, and you can work at own pace (apart from deadlines and exams)
Far better than many purely Online offerings, and much more involved than certain College and Uni distance learning courses, has been a great help.

I take exception to the other reviews,as someone who has studied for a while with SHO, met them in person at exams, on Zoom sessions, no one has been anything other than helpful, maybe they had merely unrealistic expectations?

Sadly for a great idea its badly let…

Sadly for a great idea its badly let down by an incompetent IT department, that's either lazy or lacks proper training in technical issues. And again sadly the customer service although promt are apathetic in adressing paying customers and would rather not see through issues users have. This is likely all management failure and look really bad on Scottish education. We should all expect a higher level of service from a business associating it's self with an important piller of our society. 'Must try harder '.

Unprofessional and disorganised

Quite unprofessional. You fill in your application and then get zero response for months - your emails will go unanswered. You are eventually sent a diagnostics test in your chosen subject by an admin team only to be then sent a follow up rejection email prior to you sending back a completed test...You then have to chase up details of why you received a rejection email only to be told a tutor reviewed your details and said you are not qualified for the higher course...It would be much more beneficial to people to be told this after they send in their application, not have them wait for months and make them think they have a chance only to reject them. A better system is needed and also their lack of response to correspondence makes them look like a fake company.
