I attempted to purchase 4 IronWolf Pro 20TB (ST20000NT001) at $379.99 each. Four days later I received an email stating my "order was unable to be fulfilled due to unforeseen circumstances." I reached... See more

One Star Is Too Generous
One Star Is Too Generous
I don’t usually write reviews, but this experience has been so maddening that I feel morally obligated to warn others. I purchased an external hard drive from Seagate Technology, which failed within the warranty period. It wouldn’t mount, wouldn’t spin up, wouldn’t even show signs of life. I returned the item and was sent a "new" (refurbished) drive, which didn't work at all.
I’ve now spent days trying to get in touch with someone—anyone—from the company. Their phone support? Nonexistent. Their live chat? Either broken or intentionally abandoned. Emails? Ignored - an automated reply sends you to their website.
Bottom line: Seagate sells garbage products and clearly does not care once they have your money. I’m now stuck with a worthless paperweight and no way to recover my data or get a refund. Do yourself a favor—do not buy anything from this company unless you enjoy frustration, wasted money, and being completely ignored when things go wrong.
Seagate is a scam - please be aware
You must be lucky if you came here to read reviews before buying anything from Seagate.
I used my Seagate Portable Drive as a storage for my videos. I don't tend to delete old files when adding new files. I just create a new folder for a day of shoot and save all files into that folder.
One day, a couple of folders from the previous days' of shoot suddenly disappeared. I stopped saving further new files into the drive. I used free and paid recovery software to recover some files from these missing folders and saved them in a different Portable Drive. The recovery software I used couldn't fully repair or reconstruct the lost folders.
Since I had Seagate warranty, I sent it to their rescue service. After more than a month, they sent back previously undamaged files in a new drive with smaller storage space (and which requires external power unlike the one I sent to them).
They didn't care to recover even a single damaged file, not even what I was able to achieve myself with free and paid recovery software in a matter of hours. Why should anyone bother sending their drives to Seagate and wait for more than a month when they wouldn't actually do any recovery? Why is it called a warranty?
I was also promised a brand new replacement drive which never arrived. I emailed them asking to return my original drive as I have hope of rescuing further files myself with other third party software. It has been 9 days since I emailed them. Not received any response. Why should they be silent? I seriously doubt they formatted it and sold it to someone else. The chat function in their website has been disabled all these days. They are practically uncontactable. I feel completely cheated and robbed.
Seagate replaces new drives under warranty for refurbished ones.
Do not buy Seagate drives if you care about your footage. Their recovery service does not work and they will replace your newly purchased drive (under warranty!!!) for a refurbished one.
In November 2023, I purchased 3 Seagate Expansion Desktop 14TB, and two of them stopped working in less than a year. Both under warranty.
First drive stopped working mid transfer early in 2024, not even 6 months after purchasing, making loud noises when trying to connect it after, without being recognized by the computer. Seagate was unsuccessful in recovering my data, due to a “mechanical damage. It has a problem with the read-write heads and possibly media damage.”
I was sent a refurbished drive that has issues being disconnected from the computer (always has to be forced ejected) and is not always recognized by the computer or their NTFS software.
The second of my defective drives tipped on a table and a thin piece of metal from the port warped, not allowing me to plug the cable in. They’re really delicate metal structures, not like the reliable and standard USB C ports used by nearly every piece of hardware nowadays…
I wanted to bring it to a nearby store simply to replace that port, an easy fix, but they recommended me to send it to their Recovery Centre, or else the warranty would be revoked. So my drive went to their Centre, stayed there 60 days. The data inside was deemed unrecoverable and they “recycled” my drive, instead of sending it back, as instructed. What should have been a matter of simply replacing the port became me losing all my data and having to swallow a replacement, refurbished drive that makes really loud noises when transferring and seems to me will have the same fate as my first defective drive, mentioned above.
I have multiple Seagate Expansion Drives from previous years, dating back to 2018, with no issues until today! Their new drives (2023 and later) are not built to last, with manufacturing issues and if they fail, there’s nothing that can be done to recover your footage. Their recovery service does not work and is a scam to keep your newly purchased drive.
On top of that, they offer no warranties on their replacement drives, so if they fail, they claim no responsibility.
When contested multiple times about the fact that I was sent refurbished and not properly working drives, Seagate told me that one of the terms of their warranty is that the replacement drive just needs to be of the same capacity and in working conditions, but not new, like the defective drive you’ve just spent your money on. So after spending $250-$500 in a new Drive, you get a shitty, barely working, refurbished one! Great deal for them, they’ll be forever recycling damaged drives!
There has never been a more frustrating…
There has never been a more frustrating product. Upon forgetting my password, I choose to factory reset the device because its the only option I have. I had to take the thing apart nearly breaking it just to find the PSID. Okay fine. Once reset, it asks me for a SID code that can NOT be found anywhere on the device. Not on the inside or outside, even though everywhere online claims that's WHERE it can be found. but god fg forbid you have a schematic or example of where this could be found. By the way while all this is happening, I'm just getting nothing from customer service. Their "pros" are just an ai bot, barely, that can't help you for shit.
SO the factory reset isn't enough. There is no SID, it asks for a recent password to put in. oh wow great, what an easy solution.
So the dumbasses on this seagate site say you can click cancel and factory reset. weird, already did that. so I go to try that again and it asks again for the PSID. Only this time, its incorrect! Fancy that.
The experience just trying to find out a solution to this issue has been aggravating, and absolutely unprofessional. Ive gotten no customer service. No clear instruction on what I can do and seagate has honestly just left an awful taste.
Funny thing is I could probably assume this won't help either. I just wanted to warn others before investing in this garbage product. and to get their rating down as much as possible. I won't be continuing to figure this out. I will be destroying this piece of shit device and throwing it in the garbage. if there is any way I can make it public in doing so, I will. Any chance I get I will give you, Seagate Technology, the worst disparaging review I can possibly muster. I wish I never bought this brick.
Thanks for nothing. bye
Do not buy their harddrive
Do not buy their harddrive! Bad quality and poor recovery service. It easily got broken after only a couple of months use. And they can't recover my data and won't give me a replacement one even it is within Warranty. Avoid!
DO NOT BUY from this company
DO NOT BUY from this company. I ordered a seagate hard drive from them and used it for about 5 months. I broke after 4 months of usage. Because it was under warranty, I sent it back. The customer service is diabolic. You cannot speak to someone. It's all chat message which wastes hours of your time. In the end, they said they can retrieve the data within 30 days. I have been waiting over 30 days for all my data and there is no update at all. I have been chasing them several times and they were plain rude. I would never buy from them again. I am still waiting for an update from them....if you are from seagate and read this review, please contact me.
Terrible customer service
I ordered two hard drives. They were shipped promptly. They also sent a second, separate order of the same and charged me for that too. I wanted to return the second order. 30 minutes of screwing around with 2 different people via texting to get that set up. Really pathetic customer service. Why did one order turn into two? A return on something as simple as this should take 5 minutes. I hope they give me a refund, but seeing how incompetent their ordering and return processes are, I'm sure I'm in for a fight.
Seagate 6TB One Touch Hub – Beware of Unexpected Formatting!
I’ve trusted Seagate drives for years, but this one was a nightmare. It arrived formatted in exFAT with an EFI partition, instead of NTFS like every other Seagate Desktop drive I’ve used. It almost seemed like it had been used before or set up for something else. I only realized the issue after moving 4TB of data onto it, forcing me to spend days transferring everything off, reformatting, and moving it back.
The box also says "Works with USB-C," but that’s misleading - the USB-C ports are only for file transfer, not for connecting the drive.
This experience has seriously damaged my trust in Seagate. If you buy this drive, check the format before trusting it!
Fraudulent switcheroo or shipping "mistake"
Ordered qty 2 Ironwolf Pro 14TB hard disks for $468 total. Recieved qty 2 Ironwolf 10TB.
Customer service unwilling to send the product I ordered as their system is incapable of performing exchanges.
Total fraud by sending inferior drives. Customer service would not honor price until they received the incorrect drives they sent me. Not worth the hassle of dealing with Seagate store. Especially when the error was on their end.
Purchased WD red plus instead. Seagate is on my lifetime boycott list
If Seagate Store wants to know, it was order 000121658
More than 1 in 10 of their drives fails.
I have 18 Seagate hard drives. One failed a few years ago and they recovered the data. A second one failed on Xmas Eve 2024. It's taken until today, 24th February to get the drive and data back - the drive was only 2 months old when it failed. Apart from having to wait so long for data that I needed urgently, I have been charged £69.37 VAT for the replacement because the returned drive was sent from the Netherlands with a value stated as £245.38!! I only paid £125 for the original one.
So, over 10% of the drives I've had from them have failed within the guarantee period - not a good average. BEWARE.
brand new 10tb drive money gone £
brand new 10tb drive made horrible clicking noise . got advice from seagate to install seatools did this drive was faulty.sent drive to seagate under warranty and use there free data recovery service.waited weeks nothing.sent email saying they never received my drive.sent proofof delivery then they sent me a story that it was lost ect ect . morale of the story im a 10tb drive missing £200 + postage to return to seagate in future just take it back to store you purchased and get it replaced and forget about the free recovery.
Don't buy a Seagate HDD
I bought an Ultra Touch HDD 4TB and put a lot of my data on it. After having hardly used the HDD, the internal USC C connector broke off due to its poor design.
After contacting the Seagate customer service, I was told that unfortunately this voided the warranty on the drive. The operator was friendly enough, but could not help against Seagate policies.
Seagate could not help and I had to find ways to retrieve the lost data myself and bear the associated costs (170 euro).
Thanks Seagate!
Worst experience ever -product failures
Worst experience ever. I have had several hard drives from SeaGate fail within 4 months - short of the 1 year warranty. Their "customer service" is awful - it's a chatbot and it takes 30+ minutes for them to find a live person and understand the issue, They keep asking to repeat what you've already told them. AVOID THIS COMPANY unless you have tremendous patience. 0 Stars
I had a 3TB Seagate NAS HDD Personal…
I had a 3TB Seagate NAS HDD Personal Cloud that I used very little due to spotty internet in the areas where I needed to access my data. So, I purchased a 2TB Seagate One Touch Portable SSD containing everything that was on my personal cloud but in a portable, accessible, package when internet was not available. Six months after warranty coverage ceased, it failed. No big deal, I had all thatwas important on the Personal Cloud drive which at this point had been sitting idle for about two years. It was here that I discovered it had become a "Legacy" produt and no longer accessible. TWO BACKUPS, TWO FAILURES, thanks Seagate
Abysmal service...
The contact support service content page does not work, unblocked pop ups as requested, but nothing on several browsers - other customers state likewise.
Previously, you could call re simple support issues, now there's no chat access - it's the last time I'll purchase products from Seagate.
Seagate Expansion Plus (5TB): Reliable Storage Made Easy
Note: Micro-B to USB-C cable for USB-C ports is not included (USB 3.0 cable is included).
The Seagate Expansion Plus (5TB) is a great choice if you need a reliable, high-capacity portable hard drive. It’s compact and easy to carry, with enough space to store large files, backups, or a growing media collection.
Setting it up is simple—just plug it in, and you’re good to go. Transfer speeds are solid, especially over USB 3.0, making it quick and efficient for everyday use.
Overall, it offers good value for its size and performance. Perfect for anyone who needs extra storage without any hassle.
Just garbage
Just garbage.
Using Toolkit fails to backup all files but tells you backup is complete. Ended up losing a bunch of stuff after wiping my old PC.
Been trying to get it to behave this time and it's doing the same thing, randomly missing out folders that it's meant to backup while informing me it's completed a backup.
