I sent my water-damaged iPhone to Secure Data because it was stuck in a boot loop and contained important photos for my thesis. I expected a straightforward diagnosis and a reasonable estimate. Instead, I was quoted $1,760 for what was described as extensive repairs necessary to recover the data.

As a student, I couldn’t afford this, and I requested the phone back. They did not release it immediately, instead, I had to exchange multiple emails and a phone call. During that call, I was told that if I removed a negative review (about their Brooklyn location falsely being advertised as walk-in), they would lower the price to $900. Extortion, plain and simple.

I declined, and when I finally got my phone back, I plugged it in and—lo and behold—it worked perfectly. Which means one of two things:

1. They were fully prepared to charge me $1,760 for “repairs” that were not necessary, or
2. They performed repairs without my consent, then failed to disclose it when returning the device.


Either way, this is dishonest and exploitative. I’m relieved I got my data back, but I feel like I narrowly avoided being scammed out of a huge sum of money. Consumers deserve transparency and integrity—qualities this company clearly lacks.

I felt like our representative, Kyle walked with us through every step with a full explanation and gave us peace of mind. Great response time and customer service but misleading / well-hidden prices.
I asked specifically and was directed to go to a link with price structure, it was vague for the 'slower' service but when speaking to customer service was given the impression this would be a few hundred dollars. The estimate came back at $2500 for the lowest level service -- this is a 10x factor and I wouldn't have wasted anyone's time for this.

While in U.K. I lost a large number of image files during a backup procedure. I researched my options and reached out to Secure Data which had a drop-off location in my (Canadian) hometown. Jonathan responded almost immediately setting up a file # (also expressing cautious optimism which relieved stress). On my return I dropped off both memory devices and waited for updates. Files were recovered ~ not inexpensive but worth it in my case.

Presented with a Seagate Expansion Desktop Drive that simply clicked and would no longer present data on my PC, Elliot's technicians at Secure Data Recovery were able to reconstruct the drive in a rapid manner and recover an amazing 99% of the data originally present. Of great importance were family images that would otherwise have been lost. Kudos for an amazing job!
