Poor quality, legal threats, and no accountability – avoid Selecta Glasgow/SelectaGwindows/A Plus Double Glazing
I invited Harry over between December 16-21, 2022, for a quote on my bathroom, bedroom, and living room windows. I was impressed by his knowledge and reasonable pricing, so I placed my order for bedroom and bathroom only and paid my deposit.
On installation day, I was anxious, but the team arrived exactly at 9:30 AM. They were friendly, hardworking, and handled some challenges with my window space well. I was very happy with the results and recommended them to others.
Two years later, in October 2024, I hired Harry again for my living room bay window. While the style and frame were fine, the glass had visible bumps and ripples. After some back and forth, Harry replaced most of the glass, but one pane still had defects. Then, I noticed a new issue—wobbly streaks visible from the outside. When I raised this, communication started breaking down.
Upon closer inspection, I realised my bedroom windows from 2022 had defects too. The glass manufacturer they used had gone out of business due to complaints, rising energy costs, and wage increases. It seems like Harry’s company isn’t addressing the problem because it was the previous manufacturer’s fault. I asked for a £1,000 refund to fix it elsewhere, but he insisted the 10-year guarantee should cover it.
After posting my honest review, Harry called, asking me to remove it the photos, claiming he’d lost customers. He even threatened to revoke my 10-year guarantee and no longer do business with me. That’s illegal—once paid in full, the guarantee stands. He later said he’s working with their new manufacturer to resolve it, but the threat left a bad taste.
This is significant because past and future customers who have defects in the products they have bought won’t have a 10 year guarantee if selecta are to shut down their business.
I just want a refund for the glass of my bedroom and living room windows
I’m honestly fed up
i have been threatened with the loss of the guarantee for leaving negative reviews. As you can see, the glass installed is still visibly ripply and flawed.
After being threatened to remove my negative review or have my guarantee revoked, I contacted Trading Standards, who forced Harry to comply with consumer law. As a result, the bay window glass was finally replaced.
However, when it came to the bedroom windows, he gave contradictory reasons to Trading Standards about why he wouldn’t replace them. By this point, I had lost all trust in the company.
Thankfully, I won’t have to deal with Harry’s unprofessional behavior again. Instead, I’ve found someone reliable who will replace the bedroom glass properly the first time
I would also like to add that if you click the link to Selectaglasgow web address it takes you to a new website called A plus double glazing. he has now opened a new business under the company‘s house as a result of his poor business behaviour
Update: I have noticed that Harry has decided to blur out his business from Google maps
