Scam Practices & Fraudulent Charges
This company is a scam. I have multiple fraudulent charges on my credit card from Semrush, after cancelling my account. I've now cancelled my account 3 different times and continue to be charged. I've tried chatting with the company but all I get is a useless ai agent. I've also calling their 800 number that is also just a series of robots that lead to nowhere. After finally getting to their actual customer service team there was no answer at 11am on a weekday and just a voicemail box that says call back during normal business hours. Your offices are in Boston, this is normal business hours and you've now charged me $600 in fraudulent charges. I had to file a fraud charge with my credit card company

Closing an account shouldn’t require a multi-step maze. If you miss one confirmation link, they keep charging you. Feels like a system designed to profit from people trying to cancel. Charging $200 for this mistake where is the customer empathy? The request to cancel the account was submitted how much of clearer picture of intent do you want?
All the negative reviews on here is telling of the kind of company they are.

Serious Billing Transparency and Customer Support Issues with Semrush
My experience with Semrush and their AI Toolkit subscription has been extremely frustrating and financially damaging.
For several months I was paying a normal monthly subscription plan without any issues. Everything worked as expected.
The problem started when I added an additional domain to my plan.
During that process, the billing was apparently converted from monthly to annual, but this was not clearly communicated or obvious during the purchase flow. There was no clear warning that I was authorizing an annual charge instead of the monthly plan I had been using.
Because of this lack of transparency, I ended up being charged two annual payments totaling more than $2,000 USD.
The moment I noticed the second charge, I immediately contacted Semrush customer support and requested a refund. I explained clearly that I had been using a monthly plan and that the change to annual billing was not obvious or clearly disclosed.
Semrush support refused to issue any refund, simply repeating that annual plans are not refundable, without addressing the fact that the billing change itself was unclear and misleading.
The customer support experience was extremely disappointing:
No investigation of the billing issue
No escalation or review
No willingness to find a reasonable solution
Repetitive policy responses instead of real support
What made the situation even worse is that the next morning my account was suddenly canceled.
So the final outcome was:
I was charged more than $2,000 in annual fees
My refund request was denied
My account was canceled shortly afterward
This experience raises serious concerns about Semrush billing transparency, SaaS subscription practices, and customer support quality.
From a customer perspective, this felt like:
unclear pricing
misleading billing flow
rigid and unhelpful support
lack of transparency
zero accountability in resolving billing disputes
For a company that markets itself as a premium SaaS platform for digital marketing, the billing practices and customer support experience were shockingly poor.
Potential customers should be extremely careful when modifying their plans, adding domains, or making changes to their subscription, because the billing structure may not be as transparent as expected and resolving issues afterward can be very difficult.
This experience reflects poor customer care, questionable billing transparency, and a refund policy that prioritizes company revenue over fair customer resolution.

Absolute scammers. We paid $20K for an enterprise and they couldn't refund an accidental charge of under $200.
There's no button to delete your card information or to cancel your subscription. That's why it was accidentally charged.

Excellent product, but SNEAKY!! If you sign up for a 7 day trial, they make it literally impossible to cancel.
First you have to go through a 5-step form, clicking every single time that you want to cancel. Then they offer you a discount to stay and you must click cancel a final time and check a box that you accept your data will be deleted. Then, on the final page, a minimal UI informs you that they've sent an email where you have to click a link to cancel.
I never got the email. I tried twice. I clicked resend. I checked my spam folder. Nothing. So naturally, I Semrush charged me $462.98 CAD.
This is no $5/mo app subscription you have to worry about fighting to get your money back on, this is nearly $500. That's insane.
The UI is intentionally sneaky the whole way along. They misrepresent the number of steps. The button colours are intended to guide you toward not canceling, and they switch between left/right for stay and cancel.
I do NOT recommend signing up for a trial.

High cost of a 7 day free trial
Signed up for the 7 day free trial. Thought it ended in the evening but got charged in the morning. Contacted them that same morning explaining my mistake and asking for a refund. No. Got charged $219 USD. I am just a sole trader, small fish, don't need half of what Semrush offers. Asked to be put on a lower payment tier. No reply. Just feels like another classic 7 day trial - hope you forget to opt out and then get your money whether you want the service or not.

approximately AED 400 was still deducted
I started a trial subscription with Semrush, but I found it very expensive. I canceled the subscription directly on the website before the 7-day free trial period ended.
However, $103.95 was still deducted from my card. I have not used the service after canceling the subscription. I also contacted the sales team to request a refund.
Requiring customers to add credit card details and not clearly providing a cancellation option appears to be an unfair and misleading practice.
Kindly review this matter and process a refund of the deducted amount as soon as possible.

Deceptive billing and absurd refund loopholes. Watch your credit card!
Watch your credit card closely if you use Semrush. Their interface is riddled with prompts that make it dangerously easy to accidentally activate expensive features, and there is no straightforward way to remove them yourself without contacting support. I was unknowingly billed $156.07 for an "Advertising Toolkit" and "Content Toolkit" that I never wanted. I realized the error right away and contacted support within minutes of the charges to cancel the services and request a refund.
Instead of doing the right thing for a paying customer, Semrush refused the refund using an absolutely unbelievable semantic loophole. Support explicitly told me that their refund policy covers "add-ons," but because these services are technically considered "toolkits," they do not qualify for a refund. Refusing to refund an accidental charge that was reported immediately is an immoral, deceptive trap. We are canceling our Pro subscription and taking our company's business elsewhere over this.

Avoid it unless you want to be tricked
They charged us for months for an extra service we never used and couldn't even be able to access. Not just that, when we confronted Customer Service about it, they made false claims about the service being accessible, but only when we complained did they make it accessible for us. Avoid this tool unless you want to be tricked into paying more than what you should.

Dont use it!
This is a scam! I canceled my trial on time and never received any confirmation of my cancellation. I assumed everything went through correctly, but apparently it didn’t. After the 7‑day trial, suddenly €500 was charged to my credit card.
I emailed within 24 hours to say this was not supposed to happen and that I had canceled my trial, but it clearly didn’t register. At first I thought it was an issue with my internet connection, but after reading similar experiences from others, that doesn’t seem to be the case.
When I reached out, I was told that a refund wasn’t possible. This is outrageous. I haven’t used Semrush for a single second after the trial ended, yet I’m charged €500, even though I unsubscribed and followed up again within 24 hours.
Absolutely unacceptable. Don’t use this!

The cancellation process is terrible!
The customer service since 2021 has been a dumpster fire. The cancellation process is terrible. I filled out the form on Feb 25, 2026 to avoid the renewal charges. I didn’t get a confirmation so I emailed support, account representatives, and a previous supervisor on February 27, 2026. I did not get an out of office message or a reply from the 3 employees. On February 28, 2026 I was charged the renewal fee. I’m not disputing the issue with my credit card company because I still have not heard from SEMRush.

INSANE Bad customer support and scam
This is insane... stay away from this scam company.
I signed up for a free trial last week and used the platform for about 10 minutes before realizing it was not the right fit for my needs. I contacted support immediately and was told my subscription would be cancelled.
After that, I logged out and have not logged in or used the platform since.
Despite this, I was later today charged $500 for a subscription I had already asked to cancel. I have since been told I will not receive a refund, even though I was in contact with support and received confirmation regarding cancellation.
This has been a very uncomfortable experience and I feel completely misled as a customer. I acted in good faith, cancelled quickly, and did not use the service.
Stay away from Semrush, its overpriced, scam and insane bad support.

Expensive and deceptive
The service is very expense. But most importantly they have one of the most deceptive practices regarding cancelling. Requesting a cancellation only generates an email. It is clearly a business that plans on making a significant portion of its revenue on one month trial fees, but certainly not on recommendations for a good service or product.

£200 Dispute Damages Enterprise Trust
I signed up for a free trial of the Advertising Toolkit on my personal account. The trial converted to a paid monthly subscription and I was charged £201.80. I cancelled the same day and did not use the paid service, yet my refund request was refused under their monthly policy.
A same-day cancellation with zero usage should not escalate to a formal dispute.
I work in enterprise marketing and am directly involved in vendor selection and procurement decisions across multiple organisations. Trust and flexibility matter in long-term partnerships. This experience materially undermines my confidence in SEMrush.
I will not be recommending SEMrush moving forward and will actively encourage colleagues and professional contacts to evaluate alternative platforms.
All of this over £200.
