⚠️ Auto Billing | Unauthorized Charge | No Refund | Poor Support

The product automatically converted my free/trial plan into a paid subscription and deducted money from my credit/debit card without clear consent or advance notification. This is a forced subscription and unauthorized billing practice.

When I immediately requested subscription cancellation and refund, the support team replied with a “no refund policy” for monthly subscriptions, which is unfair and misleading—especially when the charge was auto-deducted.

The product performance is very poor and does not deliver expected results. It feels over-promised and under-delivered. I raised multiple support tickets regarding billing issues, refund request, and product malfunction, but received no response at all. This reflects extremely poor customer support and lack of accountability.

This looks like a subscription trap, dark pattern billing, and unethical business practice. I would not recommend this product to anyone. One of the most unethical SAAS companies out there. They charge you during the 7 trial period and when you contact them about the issue they refuse to refund.

Literally unheard of nowadays in any SAAS but semrush just likes to rip customers off.

Scammer company

Scammer company! Never use it even if it's FREE!

They charged me after the 7 days free trial when I couldn't cancel it.

When I requested to refund the money after an hour of me being charge they said "as per the TOS you agreed for, we aren't able to refund the payment"

No fresh data, every year fighting about prices and unrespectfull worthless customer service.

No fresh data: After the September num=100 update from Google their data is outdated. It is not correct for months and they don't care. Their page sais they only do top 20 now, but also this data is not correct.

worthless customer service: I wanted a refund because they do not deliver what the promise anymore after September. They act like their nose bleeds and nothing is wrong. Beware!

I am in contact with my creditcard company to see if I can get a refund of my $1500 year plan. I am a customer with Semrush since 2017.

I opened a ahrefs account and their data seems up to date.

Update 11/01: Asked for my details, got my details, and nothing since. No surprise....

Predatory billing practices and zero empathy for customers

I am extremely disappointed with Semrush. I signed up for a 7-day trial and was charged $199 immediately after it ended without any prior notification or reminder email.
I contacted their customer support right away to explain that this was an unintended charge and requested a refund. Despite my immediate outreach, they flatly refused to help.
As someone currently battling depression, this unexpected financial burden and the company's rigid, heartless attitude have caused me significant mental distress. It feels like a predatory trap for consumers. A reputable company should have a reminder system and a fair refund policy for accidental renewals.
I urge others to be very careful with their credit card info here. I am still demanding a full refund.

FREE TRIAL TRAP

Extremely unethical business. Offer a 7 day free trial, charge you over $200 dollars before the trial is over and then refuse to refund you.

Advice to anybody out there considering using SEMRush would be DO NOT. If they believed in their product they wouldn't have to use these tactics.

There are much better tools, and businesses with morals out there.

I had taken 7 day trial and for some reason I thought I cancelled the subscription, but I didn't.

So they deduct 234 USD including gst from my account at 5:23 pm my time and I contact them at 5:25 that it's a mistake to cancel the subscription and refund it.

They plainly refused to do so citing Terms of Service.

This is just super unethical practice.

They are using the B2B bulls***t to not pay me my money back.

I mailed them back and forth and they just didn't pay back.

I was angry at only being able to give it one star ! Tried this for free, realised it wasnt for me but then I couldnt find where to cancel as they must have hidden the cancellation page. The worst unsubscribe system ever

I am solely giving SEMRush one star because you can't just cancel things you don't want. There is no physical cancelation button and you have to go through customer service. They attempt to sneak in useless add-ons and then it's a battle that starts with AI responses before you are funneled into a ticket. I want to meet the dev who got drunk and made that system.

Semrush are now just a bunch of scammers.

We've noticed more and more discrepancies and missing data that are HUGE in comparison to every other tool. or they are flatout just missing.

eg. Position Tracking tool - our most importantly used tool.

volume for a keyword in Google Keyword Planner set to same location is showing a volume of 590 and in semrush its a flat 0. Most of position tracking over different client accounts are showing 0 volume for their most primary keywords and in turn making our traffic metrics look like garbage in position tracking, when infact they're booming.

I raised this issue with their support just after my renewal, they stretched the responses out for 2 weeks after multiple follow up attempts and then wont refund me my 5k renewal because it's now outside the strict 7 day refund period. However the issue was raised literally two days after the renewal where i mentioned im giving them the opportunity to resolve and update all my campaigns first before i ask for a refund.

I did the right thing - they want to scam me.

Semrush in my eyes now is just a scam. Stay away. There are much better tools out there and weve moved off and will never look back and have only but the worst to say about semrush like most the other reviews on here.

Tried cancelling my 7 day free trial page kept on loading making me think it's done a few days later a charge of $212 because I didn't cancel. Liars!! I remember clearly I cancelled.

For over 3 months I have been trying to cancel my subscription

For over 3 months I have been trying to cancel my Semrush subscription. I requested cancellation multiple times and received confirmation emails, yet my card keeps being charged, including again recently, even though I no longer use the service.

The only response I received from support was that I “did not complete a final step” from a confirmation email. Charging a customer who clearly requested cancellation and stopped using the service is unacceptable.

This experience feels unfair and misleading. I cannot recommend Semrush based on how this situation was handled.

I tried to cancel my Semrush…Dont trust the FREE TRIAL

I tried to cancel my Semrush subscription twice before being billed, but the process was deliberately difficult and misleading. I enrolled in a free trial and followed all the cancellation steps exactly as instructed. However, Semrush makes cancellation unnecessarily slow and confusing.

After submitting the cancellation, you are taken to a page stating:
“We’re processing your request. You’ll get a confirmation email once we process it in accordance with our Cancellation and Refund Policy. The process typically takes 1 day, but in rare cases it may take up to 3 business days.”

Despite cancelling before the trial ended, I never received any confirmation or feedback. My first cancellation request was on Saturday, December 6 at 9:53 AM, and I received no email or response at all. A few days later, Semrush attempted to bill me anyway. Fortunately, my debit card had insufficient funds at the time.

After this billing attempt, I immediately submitted another cancellation request, and once again received zero feedback. Eventually, $167.94 USD was deducted.

This experience feels extremely deceptive. The lack of confirmation, delayed “processing,” and billing attempts after cancellation make this company appear untrustworthy and misleading. I strongly advise others to be cautious, this platform uses fishy tactics, and I do not recommend it.

I signed up for a 7-day free trial to test the platform and cancelled it immediately through the dashboard well before the trial ended. Despite cancelling on the website, Semrush charged my card $150.

When I contacted support, they refused to refund me. They claim that after cancelling on the site, they sent an email requiring a second "confirmation" click to finalize the request. Because I missed this redundant email- after explicitly cancelling while logged in- they consider the subscription active.

This is a deceptive "dark pattern" designed to trap users into unwanted charges. Requiring an email confirmation after an on-site cancellation is not standard industry practice; it is a trap. Do not trust their billing process.
