Sewing smith mended 5 holes in a beloved 12 year old cashmere shawl, and given it a new lease of life. The mends are beautiful in their own right, so intricate and gorgeous colours. I highly recommend her, and will definitely be using her again

A perfect way to spend a couple of quiet hours to destress during lockdown. I found Shelley’s class really enjoyable and informative, and managed to complete a visible mend on a much loved cashmere jumper that I’m thrilled with. Would highly recommend.

I loved the zoom workshop I did with Shelley. She was warm and friendly and walked us through each part of the visible mending stages, making sure each one of us understood the steps before moving one. She’s very knowledgeable, her own work is beautiful and she’s very generous with her knowledge. I highly recommend her!

Lockdown was brightened for me in being offered the opportunity to sew with others and refresh clothes I would normally throw away! Shelley was friendly and approachable and the class had a really nice 'feel' that I wasn't expecting with it being on Zoom.
The session was nicely paced for someone like me who has little hand-sewing experience; she explained each part in steps and then waited for us all to get to the same point. She then followed up via whatsapp making sure that we were all happy with where were at and offered further advice on achieving the look we hoped for. Really happy!

Shelley's visible mending workshop was great, fun and nicely paced. She was incredibly patient with my rather slow pace, andcreally encouraging! I would thoroughly recommend her. She also mended a pair of my old and much loved jeans with a cool little funky patch, and 'Sashiko' mending. I absolutely love wearing my work of art jeans now, and have had lots of compliments!

Having read about Shelley’s work and seen examples of her beautiful visible mending online (on Instagram), I approached her to repair a pair of jeans and some sweaters.
She put forward possible colour options and stitching suggestions. Shelley was efficient, cost effective and the whole process was hassle free. The end products are, as expected, superb. Highly recommend.

This visible mending workshop was exactly what I hoped it would be. Shelley paced the session well with plenty of time to demonstrate a technique, for the participants to have a go and for her to provide constructive and encouraging feedback. She made good use of zoom and WhatsApp. I came away having learned the basics and keen to keep practicing.

I loved the Visible Mending workshop that I took with Shelley. It worked really well online with Zoom and WhatsApp for close up shots. The mix of learning a practical skill with artistic possibilities was very rewarding! Highly recommended!

I really enjoyed my small group class with Shelley. She was patient and fun, and explained everything very clearly. Using WhatsApp was a great way to get detailed feedback during the class, just as if we were there with her. The Zoom format was perfect as I live in France and would not have been able to attend one of her classes otherwise. It was a lovely relaxing way to spend an evening after work and learn a very useful skill. Her gorgeous Instagram pictures inspire me to keep practising!

Completed the visible mending course today. It was very informative and fun. Shelley makes good use of both Zoom and WhatsApp so that it is easy to see what you are aiming for. I loved having a go (using the optional kit) and can’t wait to practice more.

What a very pleasant way to spend a Sunday afternoon. Shelley’s zoom class was fantastic. Having never done any sort of darning before I found Shelley’s instruction to be clear and simple to follow. Spent a very enjoyable couple of hours learning how to visible darn. Shelley was a great tutor, encouraging and reassuring. The added what’s app feature allowed her to show techniques, correct and guide as though the class had been hands on and not on zoom. Lots of tips and opportunity to ask questions.

A lovely couple of hours spent on Zoom in the company of Shelley and five other students learning her creative but simple technique for mending. Having admired sewingsmith’s beautiful visible mending online, I was keen to have a go myself. I loved my Zoom class - visibly mended a sock beautifully in 2 hours and was so impressed by how much you can learn over zoom and in such a short space of time. Shelley explained everything perfectly and at a pace that we could all manage. Would thoroughly recommend.

Having participated in one of Shelleys’ online visible mending tutorials “Absolutely Brilliant”. Well organised and a real treat to learn a new skill. Have gone on to darn a hacking jacket using the most beautiful threads I purchased from Shelley. Shopping from Shelleys’ on-line store was faultless, great customer service all round. Go on.....treat yourself, a loved one, or get a group of friends together for a real treat. Grab a cuppa and indulge in Shelleys expertise as she guides you through being able to “make do and mend” with flare and easy to follow instructions. A tutorial voucher would make an ace gift idea. Shelley is fantastically creative and a very patient teacher. As a complete novice, I was able to carry out basic visible mending skills after one online class. I have since managed to mend my favourite cashmere cardigan, which had worn through at one of the elbows. I’m very pleased with myself! Thanks Shelley.

I took part in Shelly’s virtual darning class and had a great time. Her class is very hands on, her instructions were very clear and as a result I ended up with a very nicely darned sweater and have gone on to darn some jeans, which is something I never would have undertaken without Shelly’s class.
