STAY AWAY

People need to know the truth about Shoji Hawaii and expose him for who he truly is. Please stay far away.

Working here was one of the most disheartening and damaging experiences of my life. The employer exploited employees for his own financial gain, treating us as disposable and showing zero respect for our dignity or safety. He repeatedly called us "girls," even though we all identify as male -- a degrading and humiliating insult that no one should have to endure.

To make matters worse, I was injured on the job, and nothing was done to make it right. There was no accountability, no concern for my well-being, and no attempt to help or even acknowledge what happened. That complete disregard for basic human decency says everything about how this business is run.

The employer also disrespects customers, speaking badly about them and caring only about their money. There is no honesty, respect, or integrity here -- only selfishness and exploitation.

No one should be subjected to such abuse. Protect yourself and your money -- take your business elsewhere and don't support this kind of mistreatment.

Didn’t deliver and kept our deposit

We contracted with Hawaii Shoji to install double shoji doors in May, 2025. We paid $2,000 (50%) deposit at that time. We understood that the doors are handmade and so would take some time to build. The owner, Rob, the doors would be ready to install the first week of August. When August rolled around we called and emailed to request an install date. A week passed without reply. Eventually, he emailed to say he had a serious health condition and asked to postpone the job for several more weeks. Being empathetic to his health condition, we agreed to postpone. After 3 weeks had passed I emailed again to request the status of our project.

Again, weeks passed without response. I then posted negative reviews in Yelp and other platforms describing our experience. Soon after, Rob emailed again. This time he said he was still dealing with a health condition and he asked if I would kindly take down the negative reviews since he is turning the business over to some employees. He said he didn’t want his behavior to impact the his workers. I said I would take them down if he promised to refund our deposit which he agreed to do “next week” (week of Sept. 19, ‘25). It is now October and we have had no word from Rob. Sadly, it has been over 5 months since we paid a $2,000 deposit to Hawaii Shoji and we still have nothing to show for it.
